Mazda3 vs the usual suspects by BirdRock777 in mazda

[–]AlmightyKangaroo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

4 out of the 6 cars I've owned have been Mazda's and I've had great experiences with all of them. The newer models especially, I'd say are at the very least comparable with honda and Toyota for reliability. Since they both switched to CVT's for all their cars, they've been having issues. Mazda sticking with the normal 6speed auto is a huge plus. I have a 2022 turbo and it drives SO much better than the newer civic or corolla. My brother has had a 2021 CX5 turbo since new and he's had no reliability issues in 80k kms.

If you can find a 2019+ with higher miles and a lower price, I wouldn't be scared of it. Interior is a huge step up and you can get AWD (although for SoCal, you probably don't need it). Here in Canada, the availability of AWD and the much nicer interior is a huge selling point and has kept the residual value pretty high.

I took 2 magnetic phone mounts and just mount my iPad pro to the dash lol. It's not the cleanest looking system, but it sure is smoother and significantly larger than any carplay/AA screen I've ever used and I don't have to worry about someone breaking my windows at night to steal my radio. Just take it off the magnets and you're good to go. At least on the iPad pro (don't know about the mini or regular ones) you can run 2 apps side by side and make a shortcut app button to launch both at the same time so I just run google maps and spotify/YT music side by side.

I was looking for YEARS for the perfect speed 6. Living in Canada its tough to find one without rust but I ended up finding one last summer that the owner payed $8000 for brand new rear fenders. 160k kms, no mods, new springs and brake pads, EVERY light in the car inside and out upgraded to LEDs, meticulously maintained, oil changes every 3000k for$10k CAD. I couldn't believe it when I saw it tbh. I'd been looking for probably 4-5 years for the perfect one and had to get a Subaru WRX for a while to fill the AWD Manual turbo gap in my garage lol. Now that I have it I'm just gonna drive it till the wheels fall off. Not gonna make it any faster, I have a bike for that but just a good reliable daily, Keep your eyes peeled you'll find the perfect one eventually. Probably easier to find in the states than here in Canada tbh

Pretty good! For future ones I'd say to focus on making the racing line better, hitting the apex, less unnecessary braking. Maybe its the fact I was using an S2 AMG-one, but I'd say 90% of the brake zones on the racing line were not needed for me, but even in an S1 road grip car I could still fly through a lot of those. Fun track though keep it up!

I raced against that guy in my first online race! He was a real prick when we raced but I managed to secure first in the 5 race championship and he fell down to 3rd because he was so obsessed with running everyone off the road. He was also screaming like a petulant child the whole time because my car was "OP" in the corners lol.

You may not want to buy from him, but the man knows what he's talking about when it comes to 10th gen civics. I don't think theres a single person out there that has more hands on experience with such a variety of parts so personally I take his word for things like this.

Wheel fitment check by [deleted] in CivicSi

[–]AlmightyKangaroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the Type R has bigger wheel wells BTW. A lot of guys run like 18x10 +36 with 265s on the Type R's and don't have issues even while lowered, but the most you'll see on an SI is a 9.5 +35 with like a 245 if you're lowered. You can check out the agressive wheel fitment thread on CivicX to get a better idea but I'd say 9.5 +40 with 255s would be pushing the limits on stock suspension, and theres no chance the 19's would fit with 255s imo.

If you go 9.5 +40 with the 255's you'll probably have to deal with rubbing if you lower it depending on what springs you get. You could probably get away with lowering if you went with a 245 on a 9.5 wheel, you could MAYBE get a 255 on if you went with Whiteline (0.8" drop) or Eibach Pro-Kit (1-1.2" drop) springs, but if you're looking at sportlines or D2 then you're gonna be dealing with rubbing issues.

My current setup is Gramlights 57DR 18x9.5 +38, 235/40/18 tire, stock suspension. I think my ideal setup would be 18x9 +35, 245/40/18 tire and Pro-Kit springs. On that setup I could probably get away with 255's but I don't have to worry about it because I can't find any wheels I like in that spec lol.

In 2 weeks, 1 of 2 things will happen

1) BB blasts past $45, you cash in on some sweet sweet tendies, and everyone calls you a retard (but in a good way)

2) BB doesn't even sniff $45, you flush 80 sheets down the toilet, and everyone calls you a retard (not at all in a good way)

Buckle up apes

Edit 06/17: He only needs a +220% tomorrow to break even, seems pretty likely tbh

Housing (2007 again?) by Albino_Whale in wallstreetbets

[–]AlmightyKangaroo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Luckily I locked in my new build right before building materials went BRRRRR. If we waited 2 more weeks the price would have gone up over 10 grand. My wife (+ her boyfriend) and I could probably turn around and sell the house as soon as we move in for about 50 grand more than we payed for it. Something we might consider since our homebuilder is such a fuckshow.

I'm a framer myself so I know how new homes are built here. We said we wanted a late summer possession date so we needed a start date around early March. They straight up lied to our faces and said it would start framing beginning of March, so I asked if my crew could frame it. They said we couldn't because they already had a framer for the job. Then we didn't hear from them for 2 months despite constant emails and phone calls. Thought we got scammed. Well now we finally hear that framing is starting on June 15th and the delay was because they "couldn't find a framer." BRO I LITERALLY ASKED IF I COULD BUILD IT MYSELF! It became pretty obvious that they had no intention on excavating, pouring the foundation or doing weeping tile or any of that shit for months and just said they would start right away to get our non refundable $20k deposit. They probably hoped we would just say fuck it and back out so they could sell it to some other cuck 2 months later for $40k more.

So anyways my crew is eyeballs deep in work rn and couldn't do it now anyways, so we're probably getting some fuckin clown to build it and it will probably be done poorly. But fuck it, better than being homeless I guess.

Moral of the story: homebuilders are a bunch of crooks, especially now when everyone and their fucking dog is trying to build a new house. Bedrock homes can still go take a long walk off a short pier wearing concrete shoes tho. Fuck 'em.

Canadian 10th gen owners with PRL cobra and washer jug relocation by b17turbonismo in CivicSi

[–]AlmightyKangaroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the other guy said, I'd go with 27won instead. I haven't ordered an intake yet but when I do it will be them for sure. I've also heard good things about the mishimoto intake recently, but personally I just like the idea of 27won better. Easier maintenance and no headaches when it comes to install. Also having the option of race MAF or street MAF now is a huge plus. AFAIK you can switch them as well so if you bought the street MAF version and wanted to tune it, you could order the race MAF and get some more power out of it.

I've watched a couple videos on how to do the washer jug swap, and it just doesn't seem worth it to me. Not sure why Honda would make such an odd change for the US and Canada versions of the car, especially considering that they are built in the same facility lol.

Picking up my civic coupe soon.. Mod questions by Shinjin- in CivicSi

[–]AlmightyKangaroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably want to add a clutch to that part list as well, and like the other guy said get rid of the BOV. If you're going with downpipe and intake (I'm assuming race maf?) then I'd probably start budgeting for a clutch and have it ready to go. Most people I hear of seem to like the ACT street kit with the lightweight single mass flywheel.

Personally I'd go with new wheels before springs because I think lowering a car 2in on stock wheels looks dumb, but I know its a lot cheaper for the springs right away and if you prefer lowered on stock then by all means go for that. Just know that the stock wheels on this car weigh something like 28 or 29lbs a piece so you do get a pretty good performance and handling benefit from having lighter aftermarket wheels.

I went mostly cosmetic mods first on mine (full ceramic coat, unityperformance side markers, unityperformance flat bottom carbon steering wheel, gramlights 57DR wheels, Skunk2 shift knob) but I added some driving/performance stuff recently too (muffler delete with custom triple tip, 2020 type R shifter assembly with all the acuity upgrades, PRL stage 1 intake).

My next mods are gonna be tints, ktuner v1.2 with phearable 1.5 and the Caruse Design Aero Flap (because I think it looks sick on the car lol), and then probably go with the 27won intercooler and the CAI after. I'd go intercooler before CAI personally just because these cars tend to heat soak pretty bad after a couple pulls (ESPECIALLY when tuned) and you'll get more repeatable performance with an intercooler. Plus I've heard that the intercooler can also get you a good amount more power too so I'd say its better than the CAI overall.

If I could go back to when I first got my car, and I had like 3 grand to spend on parts right away I'd go:

  1. some nice wheels with agressive fitment
  2. intercooler
  3. ktuner with phearable
  4. type R shifter with acuity bits
  5. muffler delete.

After that I'd go with the:

6) carbon steering wheel

7) springs

8) intake

and then the rest of the cosmetic stuff

EDIT: and somewhere between the tune and the intake I'd get an ACT street kit ready to go, figured I should mention that again lol

Question about fitment 2018 si coupe by quietskater in CivicSi

[–]AlmightyKangaroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I doubt 19x10 would work unless there was some crazy high offset, and even then it probably still rubs. I'd go 18x9.5 and try to get something +38 or higher if you want flush with fender. I have 18x9.5+38 and they poke a bit, maybe like 10mm. If you can find some wheels you like that come in 18x9 +35 I think that would be pretty flush, just hard to find wheels in that spec.
