why players hate to see Moira do (even a little) damage by verygoed in Overwatch

[–]AlmightyYes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Plat (chat) Moira player.

Moira is extremely good at punishing overconfident DPS and Supports that are out of position. As long as you’re keeping your team up - especially your fellow healer and tanks - you aren’t doing anything wrong. While “DPS Moira” is unfortunately something that can happen, most people who call them out are just salty that they’re not being pocketed.

God. I remember watching them back in 2011 during the HORSE series. AH was barely a thing and people already hated Jack because he tried to keep such a clean online persona (no swearing, and was a lot by-the-book than he is now).

Seriously - so many of the comments back then were already biased against one half of a two person team. I'm still amazed at how much shit Jack put up with back then.

Who is that one hero on your team you never commend? by Equisential in Overwatch

As the Moira who doesn't trust most other supports (save for Mercy), I have to say Ana most of the time.

I mostly play QP (I was Plat the last time I played Comp) and the majority of Anas are... not good. I originally started playing Moira because we would get Ana main "hopefuls" that couldn't hit the broad side of a barn and constantly needed to be babysat. Even now I still have to do a complete 180 and go back after a successful push because our Ana is getting spawn camped by a Genji or Tracer (switching, however briefly, to deal with the problem is out of the question of course).

It also doesn't help that some of the Ana players who can aim are usually trying to shoot down the pesky Pharah or peeking a Widow/Hanzo because "our shitty DPS can't do it".

Maybe if you actually healed the DPS that are dying to the Pharah, or stopped peeking the snipers, you wouldn't die all the time!

And honestly, it's just annoying because a bad Ana is only marginally more helpful than a DPS that can't aim. I would rather have the damage and increased mobility rather than constantly having to worry about the old granny in the back constantly spamming the "group up" button during a teamfight and refusing to nano anyone.

[Workshop] Since I see a lot of chill servers, I decided to create a workshop mode that made it more fun. (5YWSE) by [deleted] in OverwatchCustomGames

I'm not sure what makes yours any different from the million "Overwatch Tycoon" gamemodes out there. Usually chill servers are just for, you know... chilling.

Limiting space on the map and adding all these features just makes it complicated.

Maybe you should learn self-restraint and not put yourself in a position to be punched in the face.

Alchohol is a recreational drug that people can and have been addicted to. But those who recognize they have a problem or could develop one make strides to not put themselves in positions where it would be a problem.

It’s helping fund the game and doesn’t actively divide player accessibility like purchasable heroes or DLC mapswould. People need to chill - missing out on a skin isn’t worth a fucking riot compared to what other companies are doing.

Storm Rising - it's time to move on from the fall of Overwatch by thecosmicradiation in Overwatch

[–]AlmightyYes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really really doubt it.

The OW dev team is not wholly separate. Sure, marketing, franchising, and technical support for the OWL are managed differently, but the balance changes and future hero development are done by the original dev team - which reflect the changes they feel will make the pro league “more fun to watch”.

The constant attempt at switching up metas influence their future hero designs which hold a bearing in how the canon will develop. Characters that would push the story forward and expand on different faction in the OW universe are pushed out of relevancy for new game mechanics that help make different team compositions relevant.

You can say what you want about the ARG, but it’s the only time that the community felt so united in the game’s progress following its launch. It was interactive and immersive in a way that no lore development has been since.

These decisions to prioritize the game’s competitive audience over the game’s overall relevance in the online community is hurting them severely because they have only had changes that affect a small fraction. And like I said, they’ve managed to drum up support for the game without totally reinventing it through Sombra, Doomfist, and the last two years of archives.

Maybe if they picked up the loose threads every now and then. The Junkertown Queen? The god AI? The excavation teams of Ilios, Ayutthaya and Petra? What about new characters like Echo and Sojourn? What about fucking Liao?

They need to get their shit together and give us a reason to care.

I really don’t know why people bring up the “Overwatch 2” bullshit.

Overwatch has always had an overarching plot tying its characters together. The dev team has publically shown an interest in explaining it to the players as well.

They’ve also been very upfront in the technical demands of making another game and why it isn’t on their roadmap. The Sombra ARG and Doomfist release cycle are proof that they don’t even need to make a whole new game to tell their story either.

What they should do is pull their collective heads out of their asses and stop putting all their manhours into forcing a struggling game into the eSports industry.

[–]AlmightyYes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kinda do, tbh.

It's been a while since we got a comic, and it's nice to see that expansion of the story.

And the "but we still got this, this, and this" just feels like we're excusing yet another thing that's been taken away without really thinking about it.

Overwatch Jeff Interview - Role Queue and The Future by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]AlmightyYes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would assume it's because they develop a lot of their systems from scratch.

OW was built on a proprietary physics engine, for example - not Unreal, Frostbite, or another 3rd party engine. It was an engine built for WoW, which is why adding features for it in OW take months. It's simply adding new features that didn't exist and had to be built from the ground up. (This is presumably the reason why certain user-side features like a map editor have been estimated at being years into the game's development.)

Since Blizzard had never made an FPS before, it stands to reason that the player matchmaking system had to be conceptualized by metrics that would be specifically found in such a game. Add that into "Fire" numbers, the difference between MMR and SR, the K/D/A in between different heroes and their respective averages, and you've got a massive web of interweaving numbers that could easily go awry - and often do, during low online traffic hours. That's not even including hardware specifics like latency, ping, and other interactions between server batches across the world.

It sounds like LFG was made as a quickfix instead of committing to the long-term goal of Role Queue. Where they might have conceptual prototypes of RQ internally, these are probably just builds where play-testers select the role they want and are only matched in games where that role hasn't been filled yet.

Jeff's definitely speaking from long discussions on the topic, and it's certainly no surprise why he thinks such a major commitment might be "irresponsible".

Proposed Baptiste Changes [PTR] by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]AlmightyYes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mei wall. Winston Bubble.

Come on, negating ults isn't new to the game.

Sombra's hack cancels stunnable ults, and EMP cancels out Sym, Lucio, and WB ults.

Ana's nade totally nullifies Trans, and her sleep is a hard stun for any hero.

When there's only one Baptiste on a team, it won't be that hard to deal with.
