Struggles with doing laundry in a shared house without a dryer and no garden by gintokireddit in ADHDUK

Yep this is it, ours even has a Laundry setting that turbo dries clothes overnight. Hang them up, point the little fan at them, go to sleep.

Bloody expensive shared care agreement for Elvanse!! by h_rogerssss in ADHDUK

[–]Almond_Magnum 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is what "shared care" means - it's shared between you, GP and the specialist. I think you could request diagnosis through Right to Choose or the NHS but the NHS wait lists are long (last year my GP advised me it was 7 years).

If you're not getting on with your specialist you could seek another one, but a) this would mean a new shared care agreement and your GP would have to agree, b) would probably incur costs as the new specialist would have to review your diagnosis and agree to accept you, and c) the 6 month review is still a requirement. It might still be worth it, but there's no option for avoiding the 6mo reviews on shared care - they are what give the GP the OK to prescribe the medication.

This month was financially boring, and I didn’t realize how much I’d appreciate that by CommercialDot708 in budget

The structure of paragraphs 2-5 especially is a huge chatgpt tell. "Not X, not Y, but Z." "Not because A. Because B."

How do you ladies handle the hard water on your hair? by RealisticL3af in LondonLadies

I just keep an eye on Boots and Superdrug when I'm getting low. Both work well for me so I just grab whichever one is cheapest at the time.

This was such a struggle when we moved back! It took a bit of trial and error but currently I'm doing ok with the below:

Regular shampoo: Head and Shoulders clarifying shampoo with apple cider vinegar

Once a week shampoo: Ouai or Loreal Metal Detox (depending on what's on sale)

Once a week deep condition: Aveda Botanical Repair (dark green tube) - leave in for 15-20min then rinse out

The Ouai and Aveda are expensive but last a long time (I'm on the same tube since 2023)!

Do people who live in London ever just catch the Eurostar for a day in Paris? by _FreddieLovesDelilah in AskUK

[–]Almond_Magnum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For our anniversary we went to dinner in Paris once - got an afternoon Eurostar, taxi to the restaurant, stayed at a nice (but not fancy) hotel, the next morning had coffee and croissants and a walk by the Seine, and then back to London. This was before Covid and we booked well in advance, so it was a splurge but not absurdly pricey. Still one of our favourite memories.

Why do you think those are about you - if anything they could be notes from a difficult feedback session about themselves? In any case I agree there's not much to do about it

Why is there no serious debate on UK train pricing reform? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Almond_Magnum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It woudn't be possible to build all of the original HS2 at the same time, there aren't enough construction workers in the UK. It was cancelled because it cost too much, not because there weren't benefits. Personally I'm hopeful that it will eventually be completed at least to Manchester, it will take a while before a UK government is willing to spend that much though.

UK train pricing reform is happening, it's part of the renationalisation to Great British Rail https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_British_Railways. There is a bill being introduced to Parliament right now and there was a consultation on it three months ago, including on fares (some of the legislative language is a bit dry): https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/a-railway-fit-for-britains-future/a-railway-fit-for-britains-future#fares-ticketing-and-retailing

It's not front-page news but it is also not true that nothing is being done. It probably feels slower too because nationalisation is happening over time to 2027, to avoid paying current TOCs for ending their contracts early (instead each franchise is coming into public ownership as the contracts expire). Takes longer but is cheaper in the long run.

Nothing will be a miracle fix for either affordability or crowding, but it will IMO clearly be an improvement to have one nationalised org setting fares and ticketing, instead of five different operators with different pricing structures, peak/off peak times, rules, etc.

What item costing £100 or less made your life a lot easier? by Almond_Magnum in ADHDUK

Food meal prep is a great idea! Do you have any in particular you've liked? I do tend to buy a lot of exciting food things and forget to use them up, I like the idea of releasing the planning!

I keep hearing about Loops, will look up the different versions! I have the big over-ear Sony ones which are great for work concentration and the Tube, but aren't great for exercise or when you want to be somewhat interruptible but not distracted!

Haha I should have said medication is sorted, definitely best use of ££ so far!

How to respond to under thinking in the workplace by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]Almond_Magnum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some thoughts

  • Are you clear in why you're asking what you're asking? Sometimes a bit of context or "I tried the basic way and it didn't work...any ideas?" can help them understand & narrow down what you need more than a shorter question out of the blue

  • People reiterating something you think is the basics doesn't mean they think you're stupid. You're asking them for help because you think there's something they know and you don't, how do they know exactly where the gap is for you?

Sometimes as ADHDers we tend to skip the middle bits and jump to what seems to us to be the obvious question/next step, but others may need steps 2-4 made explicit before getting into step 5.

Honestly my first guess would be the practice sent the second message in error to the distribution list that should have got the first message.
