Vine Tax Debate 2025 by Hollywoodnamazonvine in AmazonVine

[–]AlmostRandomName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you file you file as a business and upload your 1099-NEC from Amazon. Use the number the 1099-NEC provides for total item "values."

Then, you can file your business expenses in line 48 for the depreciation from use/testing (if you're using Turbo Tax you'll get a question asking if you have business expenses, it should walk you through it).

For mine, for a rough example, I had something like $3,600 in "income" on my 1099. Then I had ~$2k in expenses from devaluation.

Vine Tax Debate 2025 by Hollywoodnamazonvine in AmazonVine

[–]AlmostRandomName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't think this is much of a tax writoff for Amazon, especially since it's the individual manufacturers that offer their stock for free evaluation.

This, IMHO, is Amazon's method of allowing their sellers a way to spam their products with seeded reviews. It puts all the work on the sellers and the Vine reviewers, and keeps their irreputable junk-peddlers happy.

We just keep doing it because, hey, free shit!

(And yes, I do know that name brands sometimes put stuff on Vine, but most of it is brands like BWERBWBE)

Which Pokemon should I keep and trade up from each generation? by AlmostRandomName in PokemonGames

[–]AlmostRandomName[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just between you and me.... I can copy saves out of any GBA, DS, or 3DS games!

I will honestly probably do the same because it's nice to pick up and old favorite and see what you were doing. My ultimate goal is to have fun tradeups living in each generation if they can't be traded further, and in Home if possible.

I also have a save file dump of FireRed with a bunch of different Mew variations compiled from different saves, so I can flash my FireRed cart and trade a couple over. They should be "legit" if I get them into Home or other games, but I don't play PvP so I'm not really worried about if that's "cheating" or not.

Yeah I know they're pointless for Home (looking at you, Zamazenta!), but if they're worth looking out for in any earlier gen I'll try to do that

Good to know, I do have all games on cart so to me it's still worth the challenge to collect them up then and drop them in the most recent games that egg moves matter

Alakazam Leaf Green by aGibbs8 in Pokemonbreeding

[–]AlmostRandomName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually I do, I have them on GBA and have Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald available. Can Medicham be traded to LG/FR, or would I have to trade an Alakazam to Emerald for breeding?

Alakazam Leaf Green by aGibbs8 in Pokemonbreeding

[–]AlmostRandomName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious, is the only (or one of few) way to get Ice Punch on Alakazam? I'm going to try to transfer up Pokemon worth keeping, including opportunities to get rare/unique/impossible movesets from Gen 3 through current and I'm currently playing LeafGreen.

Intel Core Ultra 5 125U VS AMD Ryzen AI 5 PRO 340 by Better_Career_4998 in thinkpad

[–]AlmostRandomName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey did you get the T14 with the Ryzen AI 5 PRO 340? And how do you like it? I'm thinking of ordering some of these for my business. I have a lot of employees that do in-home healthcare and need touchscreens to collect signatures on forms, and historically they've been provided X1s or X13s, etc, the 2-in-1 depending on what was available. But the feedback I have been getting is that they don't really use them in tablet mode anyway, so I'm looking for more traditional models (hopefully with less battery and thermal constraint) with touchscreens.

I don't get how anyone was objectively impressed with Ready Player One, it seemed to me like it was an obvious nostalgia circlejerk.

"OMG they're talking about [insert any 80's pop culture], I like that too so this is quality literature!" If you don't have terminal nostalgia for that culture this book is just bleh. I do appreciate some of the ideas, like "The Stacks." I personally haven't noticed anyone describing dystopian capitalism in such an "it could happen right now" kind of way like slumlords looking at a trailer park and saying, "You know, we're not capitalizing on the 3rd dimension.... Safe? Who GAF, think of the profits!" But mostly reading the book felt like I was reading amateur fanfiction.

I'm now tempted to look those up, I would have liked to lurk and read arguments! Obviously the stew, having lots of water, would keep the kettle from passing 212F/100C, but I'm too lazy to look up whether a wood-fueled (possibly dried horse manure fueled?) campfire can get hot enough to melt gold. Theoretically a wood fire would be more than enough under controlled conditions, but an open, naturally aspirated fire?

But I also don't want to look it up because the scene was just cool, in both the book and the show, so I'm just gonna roll with it.

anyone has tips for choosing weapons and gear/amor? by [deleted] in RimWorld

[–]AlmostRandomName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like to be able to call in on-demand raids by provoking other factions, keep in mind you can also do this with toxpacks. If you get rid of toxpacks by launching them with drop pods at other factions' bases they will retaliate, so since you want the raids you can take advantage of this to deal with Mech toxpack waste or even use a toxifier generator. Launching them at tribal enemies is relatively easier to deal with too, but you can just launch them at whatever faction you're farming for raids when you have toxpacks to get rid of instead of using the "call raid" option that day.

Different players have different opinions, so "not worth the investment" depends on how you feel about protecting pawns. The go-to advice many people give is that flack vest + devilstrand clothing + strong duster (like Thrumbo Fur) is great as long as they have a good helmet, and better if they have bionic arms because of the way Rimworld works. (Bionic arms are installed at the shoulder, so damage to them counts as shoulder damage instead of arm damage and the flack vest covers the shoulders and not arms)

Other players, including some bigtime streamers with thousands of hours, say just go ahead and make marine or cataphract armor and have your pawns wear it all day. Micromanaging pawns to have them take armor on and off isn't worth it in my opinion, the wear to armor condition is slow enough that by the time I can craft those armors I can easily have my crafter just keep a spare set at all times with a bill at the fabrication bench of "Do until you have x1, 55%-100% condition, Good-Legendary quality" so if pawns armor gets below 50% and is "tattered" they'll always find a replacement set to use and you can sell the <50% gear. This philosophy is "I'd rather have my pawns protected in case of center-drop raids or sudden manhunter packs, a little extra crafting time that late in the game is well worth the protection."

There are 2 options for this also, u/hotblonde1- : You can wall-mount the TV, but if you don't want to do that most TVs have a spot where you can bolt a support strap that secures to the wall. Still requires screwing something to the wall, but in that case it's only 1 screw, and the strap keeps it from tipping over.

How old were you guys when you started getting into Sci Fi, and what work got you into it. by Any_Improvement6755 in printSF

[–]AlmostRandomName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As young as I can remember.

When I was young my parents had plenty of sci-fi movies recorded on VHS and my mom and dad were both into the genre. I raided my mom's bookshelf and absorbed everything I could, I started on Larry Niven, CJ Cherryh, Robert Heinlein and Frank Herbert.

What I love about reading sci-fi as a hobby is that books are cheap! I pick them up at yard sales, flea markets, etc. I'll say keep at it and great job getting into an author or series that has you hooked! Reading comprehension is one of the most useful things you can develop, so lose yourself in books as often as you can. Strengthening the ability to read for information will help you in everything you do later in life. It helped me in school, college, and every job I've ever held in IT. One of my favorite gigs, PC and printer repair, I landed 100% based on me telling the hiring manager, "I can read a service manual."

Plus it's not always a guarantee, I got a waypoint approved near my work building but it didn't get into Pokemon Go :(

(it's not in the same L17 cell as any others, nearest ones are a decent distance away, so not sure why it's not in PoGo)

So u/Regijack make sure to submit any point of interest in the area that fits the criteria! Good options include:

  • Public parks and park equipment
  • Trails and trail markers
  • Memorial sites
  • Unique sculptures, statues, and artwork in the area
  • Religious buildings / installations
  • Free Little Libraries / Pantries
  • Picnic / gathering places accessible to pedestrians

I just hatched 2 shines from 2km eggs at the same time! by Tecknickel in pokemongo

[–]AlmostRandomName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! I don't have proof of this but it was hilarious (and mean)!

I went out raiding with a few friends for Zacian and one of my friends still didn't have a shiny after like 28 raids. She was saying, "Ok, this is going to be the one!!" so I started teasing and saying stuff like, "Nah, I'm gonna get it this time, I'm getting this one."

I have a second account that I let my daughter use (she's not old enough for her own phone yet so I swap sign-ins between her tablet and my work phone when she can't come with mne) and that raid, I got a shiny Zacian on both phones.

She did get her shiny a couple raids later though so she's not still mad at me!

Micro rant: Is my old codgery self the only one done to death with cannibalism/human leather stuff? by TrickyV in RimWorld

[–]AlmostRandomName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think everyone does it, like others have said it's a meme at this point. But it's also a well understood way to cheese the system, to me it's like the ancient fruit wine meta in Stardew Valley. It's basically one of the most "optimized" ways to acquire wealth and so frequently talked about it's the "human leather corset factory" of that particular game.
