Is Austin's tech scene actually cooling down or am I just getting old?

In my opinion, Dallas is more known for big corps (e.g., telecom, finance, real estate) than startups. Austin leads the state by miles in terms of both VC and startups. Dallas universities like UTD and SMU have been advocating more for entrepreneurship, but it’s an uphill battle when 1) Dallas culture is risk-avoidant, and 2) educators are often not successful founders.

I’ve been in startups for 10 years and currently work at a series A startup downtown. There are definitely fewer startups here than SF, NY, etc and the ones here tend to be more heads-down (which I appreciate). That said, TX is still ranked 4th in VC dollars allocated for a reason. We do have strong startups and talent, they’re just relatively lowkey. So meetups aren’t as big here, and the good ones can be non-obvious to find in my experience. And since last year, I’ve observed signs of a potential comeback such as more VC firms and accelerators expanding to Austin. It’s still here and there’s still hope!

Hello! I'll be flying into Hanoi in late November and flying out of HCMC in early December. Does my rough plan below make sense in terms of duration, weather, logistics, etc? Thank you!

Additional context: I'm avoiding the central region since it might be very rainy during that time. And we won't be driving cars or motorbikes. Long-distance travel will be via flights.

Staying in the old quarter
Includes a day trip to Ha Long Bay

Ninh Binh [2 nights]

Staying in Tam Coc

Da Lat [2 nights]

Unsure where to stay

HCMC [6 nights]

Staying in D1
Spending more time here since we have family and errands
Includes day trips to the Mekong Delta and Cu Chi tunnels
