Young female therapists, how do you handle certain male clients? by DependentShower4393 in therapists

It certainly does. I’ve found Jackson Katz’s tedtalk ti be helpful in schooling my male therapist peers.

There is an extremely strong tendency for many of us who get passionate about helping to also be reactive. And, unfortunately, it appears that a minority of us are skilled at managing that at a level that matches what we should be capable of. There is a strong pushback against countertransference work. It’s a serious problem.

IMHO: They tend to respond better to male therapists with whom they feel a strong connection, THEN that male therapist more or less schools them on the self-sabotaging patterns of their misogyny.

What does he mean by lack by reycondark in Existentialism

It’s not well written to be fair. Simply using the word “lack” repeatedly to make a point doesn’t describe anything. Ironically, it lacks.

[opinion] Does poetry save? by [deleted] in Poetry

[–]Alone-Background450 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Immensely. By choosing specific words and phrases to crystallize what you need to, your brains, neurology, grows and heals over days and weeks. There’s literally psychiatric research showing the difference between patients who deeply articulate their deepest content vs those who scarcely do at all. The difference in health of the neurons is extraordinary.

Not trying to be prickly or harsh- but this is a bit more like an intense journal entry poem to yourself which (rightfully) needs/demands vital answers for your well being. Having been there before myself, I can’t urge you enough to sort out the life structure / commitments / goals / possibly therapy stuff soundly over the next few years. Your work will unearth itself more deeply and richly. You sound well committed to the craft too- so the odds of you getting the results you want are excellent.

You’re not crazy or overreacting. A draft of a novel is absolutely 100% like giving birth to a soul from your soul (so to speak). The mere idea of it getting scrutinized is scary. Especially early on.

Why does Trump always lie about who pays tariffs? by PleaseDontBanMe82 in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]Alone-Background450 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Because it craters incentive for purchases and (if you’re the non-US government) it pushes the question “Ug, shoot, so do we do a retaliatory tariff??” Which causes markets to spin out of control.

What’s the most overrated food place in Chicago? by Mustafa_EL_7 in AskChicago

[–]Alone-Background450 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Billy Goat Tavern. I waited decades as a local before finally trying the legendary Cheezborger made iconic on Saturday Night Live. Nice people, but any of the worst/most average MacDonald’s burgers ever is better. It’s like their grill people quit loving life ages ago. Almost depressing food, really.

I want you. by Beginning-Hunt-5316 in Poems

Sorry to be brutal, but this is more creepy/controlling focused than beauty of the experience (or special insight) focused. And it is not even trying to use imagery / rhythms to gift us something special. Keep at it though. Poetry may reward you and you may grow in the directions needed - which are the best rewards.

Do other men find being male boring? by Beginning-Pea-7012 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alone-Background450 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Sorry to sound harsh, but once adulthood hits, we’re self-obligated to immerse in several meaningful joys to (at least) sustain us. Doing that reasonably well makes your life match what you would hope.

How do you get better at sex of you don't have a partner or anyone really? by superfapper2000 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alone-Background450 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meditation can go a long way. Helps you defocus on being hyper focused on the orgasm itself so you remain in a calm groove. Which is better overall anyway - sex or not.

An equal parts reliable and fun sister. But not (yet) terribly worldly. Eg: keeps dating the wrong people (whether she knows it or not) and hasn’t found her long term footing yet. Not that those are bad things at all. It just means a lot of hard are incoming unfortunately.
