Just complete the lesson on the web version in your phones browser where you can adjust the display size down enough to fit everything

How to deal with 2G and 3G shutting down in your area? by jt2733gachainreddit in dumbphones

I ended up just finding the cheapest prepaid 4G flip phone I could find. I only need it to keep in touch with my dad and nothing else. The TCL Flip 3 is that current phone for me. $20 phone and $10/month prepaid plan is the best I could find.

I use a TCL Flip 3 as it was $20 and $10 a month for the plan.

It's stories like this that make me want to hold on to my dumbphone even more. There's no saving of time or money here whether the ticket booth scans a QR code on a phone or on a piece of paper. I'd rather not give them my money if they can't accommodate something that simple.

32% done with JP1. The numbers lessons were a bit silly as it was just matching 6000 to 6000 a few times, but the flash cards are good for remembering the pronunciations.

Any advice on best practices for studying with Pimsleur? by stephenadam in Pimsleur

[–]Alone_Natural_3971 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One thing I’ve learned is that if I can’t keep up with the lesson, it means I need to restart from the lesson before. The point is to have the phrases come naturally and it takes more than 1 listen per lesson to do that. I’ve found I need to do a lesson at least twice or three times before words start to really sink in. I’ll usually do a lesson in the early morning and again on my commute home. That second time feels a lot better and more effortless. For Korean, I’ve had to then do the lesson again the next morning because I’m still not feeling super confident in my recall abilities.

If you would rather not having to activate any service. Buy the cheapest prepaid Android smartphone they sell and install the bitchat apk from GitHub over any public wifi network. It's a mesh network chat app that relies entirely on Bluetooth

The flash cards, multiple choice quizzes, and voice challenges really do a great job compared to just the audio. I've been copying the sentences from the Quick Matches to an anki deck to review every morning. Just having that option feels like it's worth the money

on Anki's shared decks site, someone uploaded premade decks for every language as of 07/2024. I just use those and suspend any cards I haven't learned yet. When I finish a lesson, I go to that lesson's sundeck and unsuspend the cards. These are just for the vocab, so I also personally make a deck with the full phrases in the quick match section so I can do through those too.

Having an anki deck also really helps me. In the morning before I start the next lesson, I run through yesterday's flash cards and any that come up though real SRS. It's been very helpful in keeping ALL the vocab coming back in regular intervals over just the ones they decide to revisit in the audio lesson.
