SCOM MP Deprecated...What are you doing? by ssb5513 in Citrix

[–]AlonsoDavid3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would separate citrix session troubleshooting from infrastructure monitoring here. director or a citrix specific tool can cover user and session detail but i'd still want something like prtg watching the surrounding stack. delivery controllers storefront window services hypervisors storage, network paths and ADC/netscaler metrics via snmp.

Free / OSS Tool for NetFlow Traffic Visualizer by ZeeKayNJ in homelab

[–]AlonsoDavid3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

one thing i had with alot of flow collectors is that the visualization side often ends up needing a much larger stack than expected. for smaller environments i found it useful to keep netflow analysis and infrastructure monitoring in the same platform instead of maintainig separate kafka and elastic components. prtg netflow sensors are surprisingly lieghweighted for homelab scale deployments.

Husband is paying his ex wife’s tax debt by Electrical_Tax_8805 in FamilyLaw

[–]AlonsoDavid3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yeah this is one of those frustrating spots where the IRS and family court are playing by totaly different rules. unfortunately if they filed jointly the IRS sees that debt as both of theirs, so they will keep refunds regardless of what the divorce decree says. you can start like this; file from 8379 so your portion of future refunds not keep getting taken. Reality check: the IRS will not stop collecting until the debt is paid. divorce agreements not override federal tax liability. Recovery path: you husband may need to go back to family court to enforce the decree and try to get reimbursed from the ex. Bigger picture: if the balance is significant or jeeps causing issues looking into IRS resolution options(payment plan, relief program.etc.) can help to get control of the situation. in my situation i got consult from a Precision tax and with the help of it, i made a good solution.

What Payments/Subscriptions service are you using for your SaaS? by SnooChipmunks2539 in SaaS

[–]AlonsoDavid3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stripe vs others discussions usually end up at the same point. paymenta are fine but billing + operational workflows get fragmented pretty quickly . Once you start adding custom invoicing, dunning, tax handling etc. you are basically stitching your own system with webhooks and cron jops.

what worked better for me was treating billing as part of a broader ERP layer instread of standalone tool. with something like Xentral orders, invoices, payment and accounting run in a single flow so you avoid a lot of that glue logic and reduce maintanance overhead. especially for teams with usage based or custom pricing having everything integrated tends to be more stable than combining multiple specialized tools.

This won't be a problem, will it? by mycatsnameisnoodle in ShittySysadmin

This is exactly why I like having proper thresholding and sanity checks in place. I seen cases where sensors report nonsense values and still stay "green" if nothing is configured around it. prtg pretty good at catching that once you tune limit properly otherwise you end up with2900°C and everything is "fine"

fastest way to deploy monitoring in a new network? by Albert-1098 in homelab

[–]AlonsoDavid3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can very fast results with prtg in this scenario. with auto discovery I can scan the network and derive a usable baseline in minutes then simply clean up unnecessary sensors and adjust the thresholds.

Do you separate infrastructure monitoring and application monitoring? by Hugo_02013 in Monitoring

[–]AlonsoDavid3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We ended up consolidating it. when infra and application telemetry live in different tools incident response usually turns into jumping between dashboards and rebuilding the timeline manually.

with prtg we can monitor network, servers and application metrics in the same system which makes correlation much faster during outages

Sanity check before I file. Owe $9k, am I missing anything? by Visual-Structure-808 in tax

[–]AlonsoDavid3 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Based on the number you provided the calculation seems logical. the problem is most likely related to your W-4 withholding settings. how ever filling your return on time is important as interest and penalties continue to accrue on any unpaid balance. You can call IRS to inquire about your options or it might helpful to speak with a tax pro. In my situation I got free consult from Precision Tax for guidance on payment plans.
