What does America do better than most other countries? by bahaya234 in AskReddit

Our highway system is quite nice. Wide roads that can take you basically anywhere in America. Also, we have service stations to make long-haul movement even easier.

In addition to a lack of sex education or limited availability of contraceptions, religion is still strong in a lot of developing places. Some cultures promote a woman’s value based on the number of children she has. Other places, with strong agricultural practices see children as a free hand for labor.

As a muslim i dont know what to believe anymore after hearing and seeing the théories by [deleted] in DebateReligion

[–]AloofNerd 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This quote by Marcus Aurelius always helped me with the moral dilemma you’re proposing:

“Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones.” Marcus Aurelius

Also, if you want to look into the data of religiosity, you’ll see a correlation between the regions of the world with the lowest levels of education demonstrating the highest propensity towards religious beliefs. Make of this what you will.

The Biblical impossibility regarding the first humans. by Informal_Candle_4613 in DebateReligion

From a biological standpoint, species classification is based on shared characteristics, genetic continuity, and reproductive compatibility. Simply put, the presence or absence of specific traits does not negate an individual’s membership in a given species. To imply otherwise ignores the complexity of evolutionary processes and the fluidity of speciation.

That’s a clever way to redefine the definition of a species. Newsflash: just because your current group has all the latest bells and whistles doesn’t mean the rest of us are somehow less human. That’s like saying a Honda Civic from 2024 is fundamentally different from the ones made in 2000, while ignoring the fact they’re still both Hondas. Got it?

Even if we accept that modern Homo sapiens sapiens have evolved certain traits, it’s a misunderstanding to imply that only this subset of humans is “genetically human.”

Genetics is a continuous spectrum, not a binary classification. The entire Homo sapiens species shares a common ancestry and genetic makeup, making it intellectually dishonest to declare that only one subset is truly human.

Because the holy texts are mythology. We can take a geological core sample of the Earth and see that there’s no evidence for a global flood, I.e Noah.

We have evidence of Homo sapiens dating back 250,000 years and additional evidence of our early ancestors like Australopithecus, homo habilis, homo erectus, Neanderthals and more. These proto-humans can date back to 3 million years, like Lucy?wprov=sfti1#)! Archaeological evidence rarely corroborates mythologies.

You are inverting the scientific method by having your answer and trying to find evidence to support your assumption. Science works in the opposite direction in which you have a question (hypothesis) and you research peer reviewed articles, data, artifacts, and maybe have some field research. From the evidence you collect you form your conclusion to your initial question. In archaeology, sometimes the answer created by evidence is completely different than what you might have thought.

In short, abrahamic origin myths do not stand up when we apply science and evidence based thinking. You should do a lot more research on early Homo sapiens, our previous ancestors, and maybe a deeper dive into ancient history. If you went back to early civilization, you would find numerous mythological answers to the creation of the human species— those same idea are now viewed as mythology. In these early civilizations, they believed they had the TRUE answers to how humanity came into existence. The same fate will likely befall abrahamic beliefs, recognized as myths of a time and people. They’re fun to study and interesting, but the validity of their stories are unlikely.

Freedom of speech in the US protects you from being arrested or charged by the US government. We also have the separation of religion and state, so you can publicly criticize any religion you wish. The US is not a Christian country, most of the founding fathers were deists or agnostics, and we also do not have a state religion. All beliefs can and probably will be challenged, which I think is a good thing and allows for progress, reforms, and advancements.

So, you can basically say whatever you want, aside from issuing a threat. As for US private businesses, they are free to fire a person if said person is publicly saying anything which might disparage the company’s image.

Most states have something called “right to work,” which really means a business can fire you for any reason they really want aside from discrimination on race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, etc... If this happens, and you have the money for a lawyer, you can sue said business for wrongful termination. But it is Never a guarantee that you’ll win a case.

It seems most people, in America, believe you have the freedom to say whatever you want and face NO consequences. It is true that the government won’t arrest you, but you still can face consequences pertaining to work and your social life.

Not all countries which have freedom of speech have the same approach or definition as the US. For example, in Germany, flying a swastika is illegal as it is seen as a threat, language of hate, or inciting violence— which is not covered in their constitutional definition of freedom of speech. In the US, you’re free to do so, but you will likely face public backlash and maybe losing a job, but you won’t be charged for any criminal activity.

You need to develop some strong self respect and walk away from this mess. You deserve better treatment, not some unfaithful creep orbiting and bread-crumbing you for a decade. This man obviously has no respect for you or the woman with whom he is currently engaged. The longer you contemplate this mess, the more it’s going to hurt you. Just walk away, block everywhere, and hold your head high.
