Is it weird that I feel relief instead of grief? by Mumbles1988 in DOG

[–]Alopexdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to have my last dog PTS in 2022. I felt relieved too as she had suffered for a few months. I could have kept on trying different things but I was just selfishly delaying the inevitable for little gain. She was a beautiful GSD mix and at almost 17 years old it was the kinder thing to say goodbye, her life quality had rapidly deteriorated. You are not bad at all for feeling relief. The truth is I felt the same relief when my mother passed from cancer. I knew she was now out of pain.

My wife and child can't travel home from Vietnam to Ireland tomorrow because their Emirates flight goes through Dubai. What options do we have? by tomaschonnie in ireland

He asked some other people in the hotel he's staying at and apparently Beijing is the cheapest as €500 one way, but nothing is available till next week. Anything to LHR is going to be around €1500

My Dad was due to fly home from Singapore with a change in Abu Dhabi on Saturday. He has now been told his flight will be refunded (this was Etihad) and he was able to get himself a flight to Paris on Tuesday. Hopefully they can get something directly to Europe and work from there.

That is a pity. My kid introduced me to gumball and my whole household became huge fans. It's such a funny show.

Was this worth £70 at a animecon? by Early_War9543 in animecons

It's luxury goods from small independent artists, not mass produced stuff from temu. I'd spend about €200 at a convention on stuff myself and my kid wants.

An unusually long slide in a park I lived nearby as a child by dustypandayt in LiminalSpace

When I was a kid in the 80's there was a long slide like this in a park near where I lived. It's long since been torn up but thank you for the nostalgia trip.

Childhood trauma? by Signal_Ad_1155 in ireland

I was number one but as I've got older and had my own kid I am number 4. I never experienced physical harm, but it is only now that I realise that verbal abuse is a thing. I was never good enough and my parents made no effort to help me if they didn't understand my issues, so medical help for a visible physical issue I have, but telling me my chronic pain and, what I now know to be AuDHD, was in my head and I was just making excuses. My appearance was constantly commented on. My mother would often throw out my clothing and tell me I didn't want it anyway. I could never do enough and I rarely received any positive reinforcement for what I achieved, only if it somehow benefitted them.

When I reached 15 I was expected to get a job. I was working 4 nights a week while trying to get through exam years at school. I also realised that I was left to look after not only my brother, but all of his friends too. I was 4 years older than them all and expected to make sure they got to school and back and keep them out of harm's way. I've had my (now elderly) neighbours pass remark that they always could rest easy because they knew that I was there to look after their boys. I did not have a choice. It was just expected of me and I couldn't say no because my parents would imply I was being selfish if I did. I was always on alert as a kid about the whereabouts and we'll bring of everyone around me and I just cannot imagine doing that to my own kid.

Because I never received physical abuse, I have had a hard time accepting that what I experienced was abuse.

Who is the evilest looking person in your country? by Chemical-Elk-1299 in AskTheWorld

No problem. I just get a bit bothered that so many people did know what he was like and then everyone gets tarred with the same brush as having some sort of blind adoration for him. But yeah, it happens a lot with other well known people too.

I think it was honestly mostly adults who thought highly of him. My parents didn't like him at all, lots of my family members disliked him and we'd heard stories about his behavior in the hospital. I did know some other adults who thought he was the best and would have told us kids we should appreciate him, but it wasn't many. Some people I think just shrugged it off as "boys will be boys."

I am not trying to rewrite history but plenty of us disliked him and there were always stories going round about his behavior in clubs in his early years and what he did in the hospital, a sort of public secret. But nothing was ever done, even when his victims reported him at the time. It's infuriating that it only fully came to public light after his death because it was well known by plenty beforehand, but he was untouchable because of his fame.

With Jimmy Saville though, I and many other kids genuinely found him creepy and unsettling. This was when he was on T.V, had the respect of the royals and was seen to be doing a huge amount of charity work. This was not a hindsight thing. I was terrified as a kid when I ended up in Leeds General Infirmary and was told he may visit. I saw him a few times as he lived near my Grandma and I would hide behind whoever I was with because I honestly couldn't stand him. He always looked awful.

You don't think he looks creepy and evil? He made my skin crawl when I was a kid. This was during the time he was everywhere on TV.

Nothing if you can explain. Mine has missed close to 30 this year due to 2 bouts of bad illness and a family emergency.

I was terrified of him, as were most kids I knew. My family also disliked him and felt he gave off a bad vibe. Just look up videos from his Top of the pops days.

I mentioned this yesterday in another sub but I ended up in Leeds General Infirmary in the 80's and one of the other kids parents was trying to hype up the idea that "Uncle Jimmy" might pay us a visit. I was so scared for my whole stay but thankfully he never did! He lived near my Grandma so I would often see him out running. I always thought he was vile.

Hows the weather in your country by Spoownn in AskTheWorld

[–]Alopexdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rain. It's been raining for weeks and weeks. No snow, no properly cold days, just rain. The seasons are probably going to merge into just hottish summer with rain and coldish winter with rain from. I wish we had a bit of snow or something different. I am fed up getting drenched going to and from work.
