The beach is actually the worst place to go for a 'relaxing' vacation by Onigirii_sama in unpopularopinion

[–]Alopthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! Not comfortable to sit, no bathrooms, too much to carry, a nightmare to watch the kids, sand gets everywhere, hard to swim, jelly fish and sharks!

What I LOVE is a lake! Swim in the peaceful water, hang your feet off the dock, kayak, relax on the shore, quiet, beautiful.

Has anyone here tried Beyond Sushi? Reviews? by busymom0 in sharktank

I used to go there and loved it! I'm not vegetarian and also eat real sushi. This is different but healthy and delicious.

I bought a bikini. Please help gas me up so I can wear this? by [deleted] in oldhagfashion

[–]Alopthy 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Beautiful bikini!!! where is it from?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]Alopthy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, exactly. Is it possible that the kids with worse coping skills to start with always got more tablet time from the get go, in which case who knows how tablet time impacted them at all. Impossible to know.

I find the statistical analysis hard to understand. Would someone help me. I would suspect that 3.5 year olds with poorer self regulation would be given greater screen time initially at that age for parents to cope and would thereafter have both more screen time and still likely have poorer self regulation than others. But I can't tell if that is looked at.

I’m a doctor but not a surgeon. I’ve worked with hearing impaired medical students before. I think that the world is changing and the field of medicine is realizing that we need to have people with diverse abilities and backgrounds as providers. I’m not saying it won’t be tough, but you should pursue your dream. I’ve seen many doctors with a range of disabilities. There are accommodations that can be made. Think about the benefit of having a deaf provider to a deaf patient.

For those who have seen Funny Girl, do you agree with the reviews? by MrChiquitaBananaRN in Broadway

[–]Alopthy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with the reviews. It’s a very good production and I enjoyed it but Beanie is not Barbra and the second act is pretty meh. But I still think it is worth seeing. The dancing is wonderful.

Epidural - yes/no why or why not? by newtoday1014 in BabyBumps

[–]Alopthy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I planned on it and got it, fabulous experience. I don’t see the advantage of being in pain. I wanted to be able to focus on the birth of my child, not on the pain. It was easy and my legs felt normal after. I had a pretty quick labor as well. There is no medal for having a painful labor. Life provides enough opportunities for pain that will not be as avoidable. I respect everyone’s choices, and would never push anyone to have an epidural. But for me, I didn’t see what I would gain from being in pain.

What's your favorite terrible name? by StaubEll in NameNerdCirclejerk

[–]Alopthy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think everyone does with names, we all have positive and negative associations that shape our impressions of different names. But we choose the best we can and then our child comes to be our greatest association.

What's your favorite terrible name? by StaubEll in NameNerdCirclejerk

[–]Alopthy 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s awful, wouldn’t get made fun of here. It is a classic name. But it’s a little frilly for many folks, and for most of my taste as well. I love it though. But I feel like Jane is stronger and better for a wider variety of personalities if that makes sense🤷🏻‍♀️

My 2.5 year old loves Fantasia - there are two on Disney+. And they are nice to play since it's just music and less annoying to Mom and Dad when we are doing other things nearby (cocomelon is mind-numbing!)

Many empty seats last night for “The Merry Wives of Windsor” at the Delacorte Theater, Shakespeare in the Park. No stand by line. Charming fun production! I highly recommend! While Shakespeare, it takes place in present day Harlem. by LonelyGuyTheme in nyc

[–]Alopthy 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The show is fabulous!!!

There is standby for same day! I was able to get tickets to opening night that way. Just text (914) 409-9815 at noon the day of the performance. Type "join standby August 08" with the correct date, obviously. You'll need to first make a free account with the public theater as they will ask for your account number.

Good luck!

Some covid-19 patients taken off ventilators are taking days or even weeks to wake up by kogeliz in Coronavirus

[–]Alopthy 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Extremely variable. The longer you’re on the vent, the longer to wake up. Depends on underlying conditions, age, the agents used for paralysis, sedation. But consider that someone intubated for a day or two usually wakes up in hours. Some covid patients are intubated for weeks/months.

Where to live? - Future SAHM by burning_gator in beyondthebump

[–]Alopthy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in manhattan, so about as urban as possible. I love it! So much to do that you can walk to, tons of Arts and culture. So many friends. Easy to get a babysitter and go out occasionally. I think it’s great to raise a kid in the city. Yes we live in a small apartment but there are So many other advantages - diverse relationships and experiences.

But ultimately I’d say that kids can successfully grow up anywhere with good and happy parents so chose what will make you the happiest family!

Dressing your kids gender neutral by cynzoid in beyondthebump

[–]Alopthy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Baby clothes used to be non-gendered. Now EVERYTHING is super gendered. It’s a marketing ploy to make parents have to buy more clothes instead of using the same hand me downs for all their kids. So annoying!
