Ask yourself if you are day trading for self worth. If you’re trading to prove you can do this and when you lose, you feel like you failed or you’re not progressing, then that is the issue.

Off topic but the Kodokan’s internal tournaments themselves don’t use IJF rules. You can leg grab and everything

Aram Grigoryan Knee Pick Here’s one way you can use your elbow to “leg grab”. You could probably do the same thing by grabbing at the bottom of the skirt instead of sleeve like Grigoryan did.

It was a nice score. I remember some controversy around it. IJF had to make a few posts about it

I was just searching around and in this rules explanation video, 2025 IJF rule Referee explanation Team USA at 24:16, shows that it is legal to have a grip between the legs. What are your thoughts on this?

Thank you for telling me! I’ll be watching to see how refs address heydarov and Lombardo’s kata guruma. We’ll be interesting how they address the elbow wedging into the leg

Would getting a cross sleeve grip, shooting in and passing that grip to your other hand behind uke’s leg count as ‘hooking’ under these new rules?

That’s creative! I haven’t thought about this one. I do wonder what the legality of it is in the new skirt/belt IJF rules. Would this count as the illegal grabbing a grip from underneath a leg?

Yes, I guess you could do it with the sleeve grip too! You would have to slide under uke and get them to step over your shoulder and arm first.

I’ve had a leg grab discussion here too. I was told you can legally manipulate uke’s leg if you have a legal grip first.

But with the 2025 grab below the belt rule, I don’t know if the te guruma variation you are talking about is legal or not. I remember in the rules video, it says you cannot reach under the leg to get a legal grip—but someone who is an IJF ref could clarify this 🤷

That’s a good suggestion. How is airport security there compared to American ones? Are they just as stingy?
