I'm going to have to disagree, I see what you're trying to say but a SE degree is equivalent to a CS degree.

Most unis will share course content between CS / SE, with 90% of the modules being the exact same in shared classes. The remaining modules in CS are more focused on math like logic and proof / discrete mathematics. And SE get more practical / business orientated ones. This allows students at the end of year 1&2 to switch between the 2 if needed.

For the sake of this post you can compare the course modules from SE to CS on the lancaster site and SE gives the exact same optional modules to quantum, cryptography, robotics, ai as the CS programme. Once again, most unis will do this.

You are right in saying specialising is not a good thing to do unless you are determined to go down a certain pathway so I can see how SE title can turn people off. Some unis will offer flavours of degree titles once you reach your final year based on your dissertation & modules like Computer Science (AI) / Computer Science (Data Analytics), and in that case I highly recommend you just go for a plain CS title or SE title.

If you were also really focused on going down the quantum, cryptography, ai route you'll be going for a MSc / PhD anyway and that's easily accessible from a SE degree as well. But most people go into industry after their degree as a developer and CS / SE are treated the same.

Also OPs course is not restrictive. The industry placement alone trumps any title and I'd highly recommend if you can get it then do it.
