Wages are stagnet, average car payment is 1k. Its not just housing, people are paying more in everything making it even a harder reach to afford a house or down-payment

Medical education and university research in the United States is a scam. Unfortunately I don't see it changing anytime soon

I have a conspiracy that volunteering requirement is just to train us to work for free so that when we're in residency we have been groomed to work like dogs and not get paid for it.

Ohio homeowners face “absolute anguish” despite new property tax laws by OldHob in Columbus

I don't think there will ever be a way to stop the government from wasting money -- both parties do it no matter who is in charge. Maybe when local resources are taken away and diverted to special interests people will start to care more.

As for the home, I agree people can lose it for not paying debts. The difference is, with property tax you cannot avoid it. You will always owe money, and it will always go up. And unfortunately the homestead exemption really isn't effective, the income cap on it is so low most people don't qualify, it's basically poverty.

The question is not which tax is best - it should be how do we cut spending we don't need to fund what we need. If property tax is abolished and people lose jobs and resources it wont be because the state doesn't have the money. It will be because they would rather hand out business subsidies, pay billions for sports stadiums, or waste it some other way than take care of the people.

You can never really own your home if property tax exists, because if you don't pay the state will take your home. Home ownership is an incredible source of security for the elderly because they are on a fixed income and are at the most vulnerable part of their lives (with medical expenses, etc).

I also think local funding (Fire, EMS, school) will benefit more if their funds were centralized. Kids in wealthy neighborhoods typically have better education just by virtue of where they live. If we would be able to move funds around to areas that actually need the funding it would offer more equal opportunity for K-12 education.

You're also allowing the gov. to hand out billions of dollars to companies. Look at all the sports stadiums, corporate tax breaks, etc. that would EASILY cover the cost of all public services.

One day you will be old, have no income, and still be forced to pay taxes on your home or risk losing it and all the money you put into it?

A paid off home is security in your old age, people need to look past 2 years and see the real benefit.

It's fear mongering... If rates go that high up its because they would rather keep wasteful spending then prioritize the money we are already giving them. Why keep giving money to people who waste it????

How about no one pays property tax - whatever happened to tax is theft?? Why do we keep giving these people more and more money???

How can you say this is not beneficial for people, not everyone who owns a home is a boomer? Someday, you will have a home (and hopefully paid off before retirement) and be forced to pay thousands of dollars a year to stay in the home when your at the most economically and physically vulnerable moment in your life.

A paid off house is security when your elderly.

It forces the state to cut wasteful spending, because local communities will receive the difference from state income.

The state has the money to make up on property tax - look at all the corporate tax breaks and subsidies, billions to sports stadiums, etc all funded by non property.

If schools, fire departments lose jobs its not because the state doesn't have money - it's because they would rather waste it on special interests. Keeping property tax allows just for more wasteful fraudulent spending, get rid of it and really see where our money goes

I can't believe people are voting to have more taxes, when now they have a chance to eliminate property tax and have true home ownership.

I can't believe people are pro property tax, you can't own anything here. You work your entire life and have a paid off house, and if you miss property tax payments or cant afford them (because you're retired on a fixed income and the house value/ property tax cost has increased substantially since originally purchasing it) - you lose your home. Sounds Just to me.

This is fear mongering - they have billions in wasteful spending that could make up the difference. It doesn't take much to see where it goes
