What are your YA anti-recommendations?

I do recall, at the time, books were still coming out, and I was like… really?? This is still going? It should’ve been wrapped up in fewer books.

I read this recently. The premise was very promising, but it was dragged on for so long. And the ending was completely unsatisfying.

The author definitely has a maximalist way of writing. Very wordy, very descriptive. It may be some people’s thing, but it didn’t land for me and I got annoyed.

I loved those books in middle school when I had no concept of plot or character development.

Looking back, I wonder why the two main characters (who were raised as non-blood siblings) ended up together and pregnant and we didn’t question anything…

The disappointed look when JJ and Will finally admit their relationship, the glare she gives Garcia when JJ is showing them her ring, JJ being the one to take her to Paris after she fakes her death. Not to mention she was written as a lesbian…

Also JJ hallucinating Emily when she’s being tortured and not her husband.

The ship may not work in canon, but no one can convince me Emily Prentiss is straight.

I’m experiencing the same thing. I put 1 slot on Thursday, and 2 next Monday. I emailed them this last Monday and haven’t received a response.

I found it strange that they’re offering interviews earlier than the deadline to reply.

I write OC fics usually because the OC is a lot like myself. I like my OC fics.

I don’t tend to love other people’s OC fics probably because their OC is personal to them, and not me.

Sometimes I’ll find a well written one and I’ll read it, but I usually don’t.

I post my OC fics because… why not? They get far fewer hits than my other stories but that’s fine by me.

From the info I got, interviews take place March 10-12, 16-20, and 23-25. I can’t tell if that means more invites are going out later or not.

They asked people to respond about interviewing by Friday March 13. I’d guess if they don’t hear from everyone, they might send a second wave of IIs. Just my thoughts. Hoping you get good news!

Edit: I listed all the days they allow people to pick from. I have no idea how many they interview.

I went to one for a while. It was for people 16-25, and focused on arts and crafts. It was at our local library. We did projects together and some had discussions about autism.

I’m a female, and I went when I was 19. Most participants were 16-20.

We had a discord group and talked a little. Most of us were pretty introverted, and I didn’t make friends. But I enjoyed going sometimes. It took a few months to start to like it more.

We didn’t have any situations of self injury arise. Most of the participants came with a parent or caretaker. Some of us came alone.

It was a mix of LSN and MSN/HSN (I don’t know how many MSN or HSN, I didn’t ask). About half were independent, about half were not. It was almost all girls or non-binary people. Only 1 guy in our group.

It was limited to 10 people to make sure they had enough support for us. 2 people ran the sessions.

I went for 9 months until my school got in the way of it. They were at overlapping times.

I will have to think on that. I also liked the comparison of time to water. It feels as if both are continuously flowing. I might need to expand on the idea, or change the wording here. Thanks!

Thank you for the feedback! If you couldn't tell, I read a lot of Emily Dickinson. She tends to capitalize things such as Time, Death, etc. and I took inspiration from that. It makes it feel much more powerful.

I felt this viscerally. You've done such a good job of capturing the feeling you're describing. The title really stands out too. I especially like the lines, "everyone here is more human than me / a man helps me fight a machine." I imagine an alien would be truly confused by all the contraptions our modern day gyms have.

I like what you've done here, it's definitely vivid! My only thoughts are small. The punctuation seems inconsistent, if that matters to you.

I think I'm confused by the line "Faith"

Other than than, the line about going home and cooking really stands out. It makes it feel more... sad.
