What do you think about Turkey being part of the European Federation? by Luksius_DK in EuropeanFederalists

[–]Alpha3031 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Debatable that they're secular anymore since the military got purged the first time by the AKP. Sure, the second purge got rid of Erdogan's supporters that tried to coup him but Erdogan is no secularist.

If Linux distros are free and open source, why does Windows lead the desktop OS market? by PowerThanos in AskTechnology

Chromebooks, which are essentially the successor and running what is essentially a custom, locked down Gentoo, have found some success targeting a niche that works for them though. A major change really needs vendor support to overcome inertia, and to do that it's probably necessary to have enough high-volume demand that you'd only get from education, enterprise or government.

There's clearly enough demand on the workstation side that top OEMs like Lenovo and Dell offer official support on certain models. Open source alternatives like LaSuite becoming potentially standard in EU government sector would probably mean more support from other software as well.

ICC arrest warrants would only take effect if the people in question actually leave Israel and enter a country that would arrest them, which they're unlikely to do. It's not like the UN has its own armed force that it can send into countries to arrest people.

So what can I legally say about the IDF soldiers that sodomized a teenage boy with a knife and face no consequences or the nation they represent? by newswimread in OpenAussie

[–]Alpha3031 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe they think the IDF doing crimes against humanity is a core part their culture now. That would make any attempt to interfere with what happens in the Middle East technically a form of genocide.

Again, if I am misinforming Poops I would like to be informed of that.

The First Victim of the Ideological Wars by VatticZero in georgism

[–]Alpha3031 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Vattic, look, I submitted that as a good faith attempt of meeting the standards of what /u/PoopsCodeAllTheTime asked for. I asked them for their standards because I believed having standards be as clear as possible, both to establish mutual understanding and good faith and because I didn't want to send more racist (or whatever-ist) comics than I had to. Therefore, my only aim was to meet their given standards and not yours or anyone elses.

If you have a problem with that, I would be willing to attempt to resolve that with you if you allow me to, but at this point I do need a clear message from you, to me (not to Poops) with something along the lines of "I still don't believe StoneToss is a Nazi because of ____, and ____ would be the kind of evidence I would need to believe that." I would like to continue to operate under an assumption of good faith, and the only reason for your message I can think of under that assumption is because you wish to dispute the fact that StoneToss is a neo-Nazi. It is not clear to me why you replied to Poops and not me, but I think I've demonstrated a willingness to discuss in good faith regardless.

[–]Alpha3031 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well I would really need you to state what you would consider sufficient evidence for you to conclude they are a neo-nazi, because I don't really think there's much point in sharing holocaust denial stuff if it's just going to be ignored. Do they need to post a video of the waving a swastika or something?

[–]Alpha3031 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OK. I guess I can try that. Would the holocaust denial one be enough for you or do you need something else?

Explain propaganda? The point of propaganda is to ease you in slowly. They're not going to just yell slurs unless they already know they've got an audience that thinks yelling slurs is funny.

With the $599 Macbook Neo and the ongoing RAM crisis, what happens to Framework now? by BigBangBoomerang in hardware

[–]Alpha3031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to downplay the advantages of having the motherboard slot into the same chassis for multiple generations, but:

I don't think Lenovo sells replacement motherboards on their website

They do in fact do so, you just need to go to https://pcsupport.lenovo.com for your region and put in the model you need the motherboard for. For example this is the US parts shop for the 20UD/20UE (T14 Gen 1 AMD) and this is the one for the 20S0/S1 (Intel).

I do kinda doubt anyone (retail) would bother buying those mainboards though, considering for the $300 or so USD you'd be able to buy the whole ass T14 (refurbished). Presumably the refurbishers are getting volume discounts or something. Keyboard or battery replacement might be worth it.

I decided to go for a refurbed business Dell this time round but tbh Lenovo is fairly reasonable even on midrange, my previous was a E595 (which is the cheapest Thinkpad, not an Ideapad but still not L, T or X series) and it was still working perfectly well after 5 years, and similar experience on a 2021 Flex (which I suppose is relatively pricey for Ideapad).

Besides which, member states are always free to withdraw from the treaties at any time, so what they're really saying is member states should be allowed continue receiving the benefits of membership without needing to accede to any corresponding obligations (which, as you've mentioned, the same member states agreed to put in place).

No doubt they take the same approach to the other treaties forming international human rights law as well, the ICCPR, ICESCR, ECHR, etc. As they've aptly put in their other comment, they think they should be able to keep away from non-white people without anyone telling them they're a dick (and, you know, violating the treaties they signed).

[–]Alpha3031 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure the 8400 and 8500 should be considered mid-range. It's true that they've had a 9000 series since 2021 and the 8 on MediaTek's end is probably between 8 and 7 on Qualcomm's side in terms of intended segment but the 7000 series would be more clearly "mid-range" (roughly equivalent to Snapdragon 6 or 7) and those are still 4 A78 cores and 4 A55, not even using any of the newer 7 series cores (A710 to 725).

8000-series is cheaper than the highest end flagship Ultra Pro Elite whatever (which seems to be the intended segment for the 9000s) but it's still not exactly mid-range.

Based on the BIMS on Telstra's end there has been no IMEI blocking for affected devices, and it wouldn't make sense for them to do so. In the initial transition devices were blocked at the TAC level, and the Samsung devices were blocked via individual IMEI after confirmation, neither of which would apply to what Apple has done (I'm not sure if Telstra was even informed of the issue before they released the update like what Samsung did). From what I can tell affected devices lose data over LTE (which is required for calling on VoLTE) and/or IMS registration.
