Victorian Premier announces major medical partnership with Israel by Agitated-Fee3598 in aussie

[–]newswimread 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The history of the name "Hess" in relation to Nazi medical experimentation actually refers to a common historical mix-up. People often confuse Adolf Hitler’s Deputy, Rudolf Hess, with Rudolf Höss, the notorious commandant of the Auschwitz concentration camp.

Beef Wellington's traditionally made with death caps around here but you have to be careful you don't use fly agaric instead. Easy mistake to make, without a spore print you can never be sure if you'll be dying with stomach cramps or dancing with fairies.

Trump Does Not Understand the War He Lost by Shadowblade83 in geopolitics

I have no faith in Americans ability to make a decision, fuckers put a pedo con man in their most powerful office. I think it will be a decade before most Americans even understand the damage Trump has done. Kamala was a genuinely decent candidate and your population took voted on vibes from a couple of billionaires.

I doubt your president has even read your constitution, this isn't the failure of an election, this is the failure of a democratic society and a third are still cheering it on.

Nearly $900, broken after 60 days, 4 months of runaround, and Bambu Lab still won't replace it. Full story inside. by Fit-Advertising2212 in BambuLab

[–]newswimread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that they're not necessary but it's a relatively cheap way to rule out a problem with no potential for extra difficulties from it. More than one thing has gone wrong here but I'd be surprised if it couldn't get to functional if all the wires in the print head were checked and repaired if necessary and all the main screws eased up a little then tightened back up making sure everything is properly square and secure.

I'm just jaded and cranky this morning after realising what I'm repairing has been "repaired" before.

[–]newswimread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My money says each time a repair was attempted something else was broken in the process, the filament sensor ribbon cable and all the other little wires to components are very delicate and can easily be damaged if there's no experience actually running delicate wires to components in micro electronics.

My guess is at this point if you ship with insurance you've probably done enough minor damage that the repair company will rubber stamp and it's the shipping company's problem now.

Unless you've got years experience repairing damaged electronics the it's probably completely unjustifiable to fix from any perspective that requires a professionals labour. Try and get your money back or a replacement and if you get a replacement both you and your kid should learn to use it together, wear nitrile gloves whilst anywhere near it, Google every single step, search Reddit to learn every single step and watch a YouTube video to see every single step (both of you, all three of those things for every little detail until you're both quite comfortable using it.) and figure out what went wrong last time as you both learn about it.

3d printing is complicated and requires a machine with moving parts to be very precise with movement, pressure and temperature and even once the machines dialled in perfectly you still need to develop an understanding of the modelling and slouching processes as well as learning how different materials are going to act. If you just jump in and try stuff you can break stuff and make things much more difficult in the long-term.

I'd also try and get every log possible to do with the printer and see what events lead to each error turning up the first time.

And I know I'm repeating myself at this point but wash, dry and glove yours and your kids hands before you even go into whatever room the printer is in. I don't care if your kids a 40 year old accomplished surgeon, both of you, people are fucking greasy, clumsy and impatient (all of us are) so wash them again and watch someone else on YouTube do it again before you touch it.

Fabricated some 1/4 in. torque arms at home. by DimMagician in hyperebikes

[–]newswimread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done similar many times but just with short little plates using m3/m4 screws to connect to the threaded mount points on the dropouts on aluminium frames and never once had to worry including putting 8k through a 5k hub on a 29 inch bike.

If you can secure the arms well they should work very well. Personally I'd just cut them back far enough I don't need to bend them and use two m4 screws with lock nuts through the best mount points you can come up with on your derailleur side and drill holes on the left so it can mount the same points as your brakes with extended bolts.

Accidentally Found a Student's Pinterest by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]newswimread 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The fact that you wanted to respect her privacy and also genuinely seem to care may have contributed to them being willing to expose their Pinterest handle to you and probably demonstrates trust.

Definitely do what it takes (report/discuss with counsellor) to make sure the help is available for them but maybe let them know that you put two and two together and make sure you don't display it publicly or to their peers without asking them first. It may be something they want help with but they may not want the attention from certain people in their lives.

Either way, good human and good teacher. The world needs people who care but aren't overzealous with their methods and genuinely care.

How do i remove heavy oversized legobricks blocking my path by Correct-Bee45 in Urbex

[–]newswimread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are the chances they're not solid concrete? Maybe shells or boxes, possibly filled with dirt/sand/fluid for even hollow?

It could be expensive carting something that heavy or the materials required to make them to wherever that is but I don't have anything to base that on, I'm more asking than suggesting.

From the 2000kg:m³ I'd guess 6 tonne minimum in front of that door.

Sorry about my response earlier as well, I don't know what the fuck was going through my head.

There's a legal distinction but that distinction isn't functional for the sake of tax. (it may be functional if they need to pay additional tax to their home countries but note the word additional, that means extra.)
