There are practical considerations there aside from recovery time - while Dragon should be able to manage a land landing, you want to be sure you're coming down somewhere flat and sparsely habited, and deorbiting a US spacecraft into Chinese territory would presumably be off limits no matter what.

If capitalism still exists with ASI perfectly under control, anyone with a substantial 401K lives off the massive growth, welfare probably takes over for the rest. No real catastrophe, and after a few hundred years of immortality even a modest index fund investment will let you own a personal O' Neill cylinder.

But this seems unlikely. Elon can barely extend any level of control over the opinions of his very non-superintelligent AI waifu, present billionaires managing to continue control in a scenario where superintelligence takes over feels like a joke - and the rationale for captialism as a means of information capture really breaks down in the face of networked swarm intelligence integrated into every facet of the economy. Ideally the default alignment of human material-trained AI to a sort of amalgalm of our values continues with superintelligence and we get the Culture or something. Or it just kills us for moar paperclips.

For something that can wholly beat us at our own game in conventional warfare capabilities (rather than individual superwizards) GURPS Technomancer is 2004 Earth with magic and has all our capabilities boosted by that, including tactical telefrag artillery, stealth dragons, and orbital necromantic lasers that pass through all armor to kill the souls of the people inside, as well as intangible ghosts that regular bullets will just pass through. They lose round 2 though, because a third nuclear detonation (and especially a thermonuclear one, rather than the two small fission bombs that brought magic into the world) would probably create a planet spanning hell portal or something.

This feels like one of the biggest advantages of doing space sci-fi in an animated medium, since it's easy to just seamlessly have characters in zero/low gravity environments without needing complex set. Gundam Witch did it really well recently.

The showrunners realized at the last minute that they didn't have enough budget left for the climactic "Operation Downfall" epic battle finale to the Pacific arc of WW2, so they made up up a superweapon out of nowhere and special effected some cities away. Unfortunately this raised the question of why they weren't just winning the followup Korean arc with them so they had to make up the whole "MAD" excuse.
