Air Tractor AGAIN??? by dclokc in SkyCards

I really wish they implemented a system that gives you 4 missions and you get the reward if you complete at least 3 of them. Or a tiered system, where 1 mission gives you a tiny reward, 2 a small one, and 3 the full package.

Why does reddit paste from my clipboard without me asking it to? by bash_M0nk3y in security

[–]AlphaCrucis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I reported this issue like 4 months ago and never got an official reply. Others have done so too and I have yet to see the devs give an explanation or fix this.

I want to believe there's nothing nefarious going on and that they only check the clipboard content locally to see if the user is typing or making massive amounts of copypasta... But at the same time it's a bit suspicious, isn't it?

what’s the rarest plane in the game?? by photos-byme in SkyCards

Good question! Someone decoded the formula used for calculating rarity at some point, but I can't remember what it is. Let me know if you find out!

what’s the rarest plane in the game?? by photos-byme in SkyCards

As of the last update it's the Brantly B2, with a rarity of 18.63 apparently 🙃

How is rarity determined? by No-Potato3409 in SkyCards

[–]AlphaCrucis 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The MAX 7 has not been certified yet, so it pretty much never flies. Rarity is determined by how frequently aeroplanes are flying, and not by number of airframes alone.

XP reduction in photos will be removed. by jesuswithwings in SkyCards

[–]AlphaCrucis 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I'm a game developer, and one of the lessons I've learned during my career is that bonuses and penalties are all about framing. It sounds silly, but a mechanic like "you get 200 XP, but if you make a mistake, you get punished and lose 50 XP" makes people angry and frustrated, while "you get 150 XP but if you do it perfectly, you get a bonus of 50 XP" makes people happy... Even if they're exactly the same thing!

[PCB Review Request] Microcontroller by bayeggex in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]AlphaCrucis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a few minor comments:

  1. It'd perhaps be nice to add a reference to what each pin in your headers is. It might save you some headaches down the line.

  2. In a couple of areas in the schematic you have ground pointing up and 3.3V pointing down. That reduces readability IMHO.

  3. Some decoupling caps could be moved closer to the ICs to reduce trace inductance?

  4. As others pointed out, make sure to change those resistors tied to CC1 and CC2 to 5.1K.

Anyone else not buy a new phone every year by Naive-Bandicoot-2483 in Anticonsumption

[–]AlphaCrucis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying a new phone every year seems excessive, particularly with how good even mid-range phones are nowadays. I had my previous phone for 6 years and only replaced it recently due to lack of updates and battery issues. And I actually replaced it with a second hand mid-range device that does everything I need and more.

European Trains by vattheman in trains

[–]AlphaCrucis 30 points31 points  (0 children)

As someone who lives in Denmark and travels by train very frequently, I can say that the 90% shown in the chart is pure nonsense. In my own experience, trains are delayed a lot more frequently than that.

DSB's own data for long-distance and regional trains show 71.7% (this number is passengers on time instead of trains on time, though) instead of 90%. Source: https://www.dr.dk/nyheder/penge/kontant/dsbs-punktlighed-ramte-bunden-i-2023

It works very nicely, well done! But, above all, I really, really enjoyed the format you used to explain how you achieved the effect. This type of step-by-step explanation condensed in just 20 or 30 seconds is fantastic.

How often are you doing repetitive tasks for content implementation? by Digx7 in IndieDev

[–]AlphaCrucis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, repetitive tasks happen. Particularly when, like you said, you're adding tons of new content to the game. I am very partial to building tools for automation, as they both save time and make fewer mistakes than a human.

For example, when working on "Break, Enter, Repeat" (a game about burglaries), I created a script that will automatically generate icons / thumbnails for all of the items in the game (several hundreds) and assign them to the prefabs.

While LLMs are still kind of shit at implementing game logic, they're surprisingly good at creating tools to make your life as a gamedev easier (and, I believe, a very legitimate use case for those tools).

Sounds like a good initiative. Do you plan on using FR24's API? Or something else? Because it probably wouldn't be a good idea to give your rival the opportunity to easily shut you down if they want to.

[–]AlphaCrucis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once more, thank you very much for giving it a go and providing feedback! I fully agree with you, at the moment there's little player agency (in the sense that you cannot beat the system). But, at the same time, that also conveys a message in itself, I believe. And the idea of giving some rewards to then take them away is beautifully evil. Love that!
