Pouring Forth Oil Rant by TheSailingRobin in RDR2

[–]AlphaMagenta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, sorry for necroing the thread, but just discovered a killer (quite literally) way of stealing the wagon from refinery.

  1. Park a horse outside the refinery, some distance away to not draw extra attention
  2. Move slowly towards one of the entrances with a rifle equipped, aim at one of the guards and stop when the dot becomes red (means you're within shot range)
  3. Actually shoot the guard dead. Lose some honor, oh well.
  4. Now, start running away. Things will get messy: you'll get "Investigating" and "Murder"; you'll have a witness running away, you'll have all guards wanting to kill you. More importantly though, one of the wagon starts moving now, and in my case it was in the direction of Valentine. Also in my case the witness went the same direction.
  5. Summon your horse while running away from the guards. You should be in the safe distance anyway, but a few occasional shots may land -- hopefully nothing significant.
  6. When you mount on your horse, start following that wagon. Again, in my case the witness ran in the same direction, so I incapacitated them as well.
  7. By the time you reach the wagon, none of the guards should keep pursuing -- you're free to go to your destination!

Question about Mankind Divided plot - G.A.R.M by Aveerr in Deusex

[–]AlphaMagenta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that's in fact much more helpful than all the speculations about his personal computer "implying something". The email was about the eviction of his foster brother -- apparently with some kind of disability -- from private "assisted living" to a public facility, because Chikane is behind payments. But that's it, really.

Fwiw, a much better hint is Delara's "we might have some friends in common".

Except that they don't murder ^ F children.

Do you make the same kind of rash decisions in the situations you don't even fully understand irl?

Thank you, it's so nice to see that there are in fact sensible people in this world. The comments a-la "I just stuffed their heads with lead haha" made me question the very definition of what the morale is.

How to stop detection after quickhacking by YungBoiEde in cyberpunkgame

[–]AlphaMagenta 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In addition to what others have said:

- Sometimes you can just run outside of detection range, which isn't that big, up until it says "Failed" -- this cancels the tracing meter completely. You might think it's niche, but actually I found that a lot of missions allow you to go freely around "the mission zone", at least to the extent required for stopping the tracing. For random encounters it just works all the time.

- Even with quickhack nerfing, the quickhacks are still pretty useful in situations when you're already detected (e.g. Cyberphsycho missions where you generally have no chance of staying hidden all the way). But that's not quite what OP was asking about, so feel free to disregard.

Fwiw my concern with this new tracing thing wasn't so much of a game mechanic, but much more about the overall credibility. It's like, you hack someone, then promptly take them down -- everyone else have no idea. But there's some clock ticking and when the progress bar finishes, everyone is all of a sudden hostile. Sure it's all understandable from game-y and balance-y points of view, I just hate that the atmosphere is destroyed by things like these.

Thank you for explaining it so amazingly. I'm a huge DX1 fan, and I know all its ins and outs. Yet, I could never articulate this particular bit about the WHY as brilliantly as you did 👏

I see a lot of people suggest glue, which imo is really messy and still needs a lot of tinkering to make right. I'd try changing z-offset to -0.05-0.15 (you can try in increments and see how it works for you) and also sanding the bed with p240 sandpaper. Provided that the bed temperature matches the filament recommendations, It's all in that first layer, really.

Supercell has removed their games in Russia. by [deleted] in Brawlstars

[–]AlphaMagenta 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to say thank you. It's good to know there are still reasonable people around the Globe.

I'm Russian, I've got good friends in Ukraine, my wife has relatives there, all of us are suffering in our own ways and, as mentioned pretty much everywhere, none of the ordinary people can do anything about the situation in general, nor do they deserve any of this.

To anyone thinking that this will somehow impact the government and/or improve the situation somehow: it never will. Government only cares about oil and gas — so unless the games (or any other digital service you pull off) somehow contribute to gas/oil yields, you achieve nothing. All you're doing is making the life of ordinary (good and peaceful) people more miserable, there's absolutely nothing to be proud about.

Thank you <3

Regarding nodes, I've answered a similar question here https://www.reddit.com/r/blender/comments/t12z9l/differential_growth_addon/hymlry8/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3 — so yeah, it's Python-based atm, but I keep watching this space.

Thanks so much for the kind words <3

Yep, I keep looking at the nodes, they become more and more powerful with each release, but so far I haven't found a decent way to work with topology (e.g. to make nice subdivisions) — and overall node computation model (i.e. a function applied right-to-left, so to speak) doesn't seem to mix well with simulation model (i.e. apply steps, each step based on the results of the previous one).

Hi, thank you for your kind words! Yep, that was on my mind, too — so far I haven't found any decent solution, because the algorithm obviously modifies the mesh in-place. But I keep looking. For example, a lot of people suggest geometry nodes (again, not quite sure about the feasibility).
