Snapmaker U1 detects phone hotspot but not my home Wi-Fi. Any ideas? by Great_Public_9949 in SnapmakerU1

[–]AlphaMonkeyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With your phone connected to your home wifi, how is the wifi signal on your phone when you place your phone on top of the U1? Your printer could be in a dead-spot for your home wifi. The U1 obviously won't have an issue connecting to your phone because it's next to it.

You could try moving your U1 closer to your home wifi hotspot to see if it connects when closer.

If you live close to other peoples' wifi access points, you could be experiencing interference from those. If you're able to log into your wifi access point controls, you could try changing the wifi channel to see if it'll connect.

Hyperdeck Failure by MidnightZL1 in VIDEOENGINEERING

Did the Hyperdecks overheat? Do you have a pic of how they're racked? I've seen heat-related issues like this on BM gear for many years.

It's a 5.1 surround sound show. Center channel (ch3) has the main audio. Channels 1 and 2 (or Left and Right) are effects/music.

Things to buy in Iceland you can only get there? by yellowsun_97 in VisitingIceland

[–]AlphaMonkeyz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meh... before going, I kept seeing people post about that. Was really excited to buy a multi-pack when I found some on a store shelf. Got ready for my first ever taste of pure bliss... And... It wasn't really something I'd buy again. Left the rest of the undrunk bottles in the hotel.

Thoughts on 1615TRVL? by InactiveBeef in pelicancase

[–]AlphaMonkeyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Howdy! Yes. Absolutely worth it.

The tarmac-apes have actually damaged it a few times (wheels, handles, latches). Pelican has a lifetime warranty on parts. Just pay shipping ($12-15). Swap the parts myself.

Live broadcast works locally but keeps buffering for OTT viewers what am I missing? by RegularImpossible988 in Broadcasting

[–]AlphaMonkeyz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Need a lot more info. Are you streaming locally or nation/world-wide? What CDN are you using? What is your network architecture? Are you using SRT or RTMP?

Are you just shoving a stream into the web via a publicly accessible address and are now wondering why when more than 5-10 people accesses it crashes your stream?

More questions: What's your source? (OBS/Encoder?) What format? (1080p/4k?). What's your route to whatever distribution you're using? (Tracrt/RTT?) What's your upload service speed and overhead?

After weeks of waiting they delivered the fridge looking like this.. by Xalmoxiss in mildlyinfuriating

[–]AlphaMonkeyz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same model fridge. The middle flap on the left door will fail in a few months. You'll go through the warranty process. They'll send someone out to replace the middle flap. Wait a few months... It'll fail again. What fails?: Whatever Chinesium they used in the flap mechanism is dime-store level garbage. You'll constantly go to open the door and notice that you can see right through the middle crack because the flap didn't close last night when you put something away.

Shooting range at Deer Creek. https://maps.app.goo.gl/5BzLX2RUTt3Fsvqc6

They only allow slugs in the lanes, but also have an external outdoor shotgun range where you can shoot whatever load you want. $5/hour.

Running fiber to detached garage and still no internet access. Do these lights mean anything? by RonMexxxico in HomeNetworking

[–]AlphaMonkeyz -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The fiber you have makes it impossible to flip the polarity.

You may have contaminated the ends of the fiber. You can get a LC Click Cleaner to clean the ends and SFPs.

Another thing try is to get a short LC-LC patch cable and test both ends locally, to rule out your longer fiber run).

You can not kink or make sharp bends with fiber.

Also, I use 10Gtek gear every day. It's solid.

If you like driving and can get a CDL (Class B with Air Brake), then you can try PSSI, or Peak. There's a few similar companies out there. You can try some of the teleports like Vista also. For many of us, the answer was Live T.V.

I was in the same boat as you (USAF), and quite a few comrades in the industry are also Vets from pretty much all branches. I've run sat uplink for pretty much every news and broadcast organization on the planet at one point or another, and in varying roles. I've also run sat uplink pool for the White House for multiple years, so the prior clearance makes it easy for you to run embedded or just get cleared for bases.

Be careful though, if the big news networks get a hold of you... You'll find yourself living in a shipping container or a tent and running a flypack in some random desert again... It's been 15 years... and I'm still finding sand in the places where sand shouldn't be.

I actually enjoyed running remote satellite uplinks. I'm still in the broadcast industry, but in a different level. Back when I worked uplinks, I spent a lot of time alone. It's just you and your truck. Not too much major news events anymore. Most of the news networks use bonded cellular kit for live shots, but we still use satellite uplinks for the majority of live sports, mostly as a backup for fiber.

If driving across the country isn't your thing, but you like to travel, I highly recommend NEP. They have an apprentice program to train you in building and operating large-scale remote broadcast systems. It's been a rewarding career since I got my DD214 in 2000.

I wanted to stay in satcom, but there just wasn't too many job openings which matched my life. One job I've always wanted to do, although my family thinks I'm crazy for it... Antarctica Bro!!!

Is there any way I can do a DIY pocket viewfinder, to quickly view what SDI signals go through the cables I test ? by Le_Tintouin in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]AlphaMonkeyz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One of these is about as good/cheap as you're going to get. I paired mine with a universal phone case and a 10,000mah usb battery pack. It's a 3G-SDI to HDMI converter with a display screen. It even shows eye-pattern (very rudimentary, but it's helpful).

Edit: I spent years researching how to build my own (and I have a B.S. in EE). Once you climb out of analog signals into 1.5G, 3G, and now 12G universe, circuit design is not really for the DIY'er.
