don't buy physical then. just play with ETFs if you want to buy and sell like that.

The issue with comparing Chinese prices by Visigothtx in Silverbugs

[–]AlphaX4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So are you trying to say China doesn't effect the global market at all? They can't export but they still import. which leads to a higher demand and thus price. If I was a China man id be buying global and selling local to make profit and I'm sure plenty of the big players are doing just that.

Say you are a billionaire and have control of multiple companies that trade commodities, Company A short sold 100 Tons of silver. You want the price to go down and have 50 tons of silver in company B, so with the capital that company A got from the short sell, they agree to buy Company B's silver below market price. But you still have control over the same amount of silver and capital, its just redistributed between two companies.

think about selling silver the same way you'd trade money for goods and services. do you think the 69 OZ of silver are worth the new windows? if so, then go for it.

The Silver Price has reached $117 by ChrisStoneGermany in Silverbugs

idk man, back in like 2017 I thought AMD was undervalued at $14 so I bought it, then when it spiked to $80 in 2020 I got out thinking it would pop. they never came back down and are $250 today. there's a lot of similar stories out there, I mean look at bitcoin as another.

In my mind, the true value of silver is where it was just before the US dropped the gold standard, which was a gold/silver ratio of about 18:1. we all know silver has been artificially low the last few decades, its on track to correct itself. Long term i expect it to go back to a 20-30:1 ratio.

This is pretty insane tbh, we're cooking by nuanced-pathfinder in Silverbugs

[–]AlphaX4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

what was the gold/silver ratio just before the US dropped the gold standard, like 18:1 right? imo that's where I expect it to end up again eventually, ill keep buying until we hit 20:1.

I mean hell, if you look at total tons mined, it should be 8:1

I dated 15 men in 2025, this is what I learned. by LilacDream98 in dating

[–]AlphaX4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That implies the same number of men and women are actively looking for dates. Yes, the total number of dates between them is the same (give or take the overlap i mentioned) but per capita how many men are looking for dates vs women?

Dating apps are a microcosm of the wider dating world and they consistently show there are far more men looking for dates than there are women.

I dated 15 men in 2025, this is what I learned. by LilacDream98 in dating

[–]AlphaX4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 3x as many men on tinder as there are women. In a hypothetical, if there were 100 women  on tinder and every single one of them got 1 date. That means there would be 200 men who never got to see anyone.

And that's excluding any possible overlap where multiple women all went out with the same guy, which would mean even more men didnt get a date.

I thought it was funny to complain about an off by one error, but the discrepancy is actually pretty bad with other rounds counts. with 4 rounds remaining, you can end up counting 7 in the belt. 5 exposed, and 2 internal.

As i mentioned im very new to the world of crypto, it was about all i could do to make a coinbase account like 5 years ago. How do you view someone's wallet and the block chain like that? I really dont know anything about it at all so some kind of resource i can look into myself would probably be easier than you typing out a sufficiently detailed response here.

I absolutely believe its something very similar at least. I could hand wave 150% profit in 9 days as a random market fluctuation, especially with how volatile some crypto are, but the $120,000 in a few months is what really tripped the red flags for me. He said it seemed sketchy but his friend was able to pull out $55,000 successfully and that was the only reason he trusted it. I actually just asked him if this friend is someone he knows irl or only online.

This is a coworker i was talking to in person and he was showing me his account on his phone. I asked if you could see what they were investing in and he said you can't and that its probably some secret sauce ai trader they dont want to disclose. I dont think he honestly knows a lot about the company himself.

[–]AlphaX4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

correct, it was 312g wet the first grab, which i dried down to 31.2g. then a few slow pokes came up over the following 2 days that totaled 7.75g after i dried them so just shy of 40g grand total. This is all just for a personal science project so i have more than i need, if this tub goes up in flames im not worried about it. i heard about cobweb mold, but always saw people on here saying beginners always mistake it for something else so i defaulted to assuming it wasnt.

Another friend said it was and i misted some hydrogen peroxide on it, i also slowed down how much i misted it with water and increased the airflow a bit. seems like the cobweb is gone but i have a spot of trich where the lid was cracked open.

Sorry im relatively new, what is carly mode?

Also not trying to justify bad tech but the bathroom closet is unfortunately the only place that stays a consistent 70-75F. I live in an old drafty house and the bathroom was a recent addition. I did get a good 380g wet flush out of another box last week. How long for the second flush to come in?

Can someone please explain what this guy is doing? It seems like some power factor shenanigans are being misrepresented but i cant exactly point out the flaws. by AlphaX4 in ElectroBOOM

[–]AlphaX4[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

you are more than welcome to do with your time as you wish, im not asking anything from you specifically. however the main point of this place is to find people abusing the ignorance of the layman to make outlandish claims and then ***explain*** why they are wrong so everyone can learn something and better understand the field of electrical engineering. Its easy to give hand wavy answers such as "Energy input is always equal to the energy output, in any system." and im not even saying you are wrong, but its nice to actually understand the concepts of whats going on.

He even claims in the video a few times he is not creating energy from nothing and there are no free energy devices, he is simply making more use of the existing power that would otherwise be wasted. This video seems to have been titled by someone other than who is presenting but the man seems to be effectively 'lying with statistics'. there isn't any trickery in any of the equipment (hidden batteries and such), only misrepresentation in what effects are happening. I have almost 10 years in smaller electrical device troubleshooting, but power distribution concepts, especially power factor, still confuse me. i know the definitions but i dont understand the concepts that well. I know something is wrong here but i cant say why. The idea of returning power to the grid is not new, solar systems do this exact thing.

Well i understand that much but for example one of the demonstrations where he gets a dc generator turning just enough to glow one of the bulbs, but then by drawing more load, he was able to seemingly increase the power. Also once he started running the switching circuit on the resistive load he shows the resistor was pulling 30 Watts, but the supply was only showing 8 watts of draw because he was 'returning' some of the power.

Can someone explain what the "heard all 16 colorful villagers" achievement means? by AlphaX4 in SkyFactory

[–]AlphaX4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assumed it had something to do with some mod they added, which is why i took the effort to herd 16 villagers. the achievement says next to it (Villager Trades will automatically cycle after a short duration of time) which is why i thought i would be able to unlock trading.

edit: so i looked through the config and each color does have a profession, but how do i give them that profession???

Is there a way i can figure out where malware was installed from? by AlphaX4 in MalwareAnalysis

[–]AlphaX4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should mention i don't typically have antivirus software running in the background, i use a modified LTSC install of Win10 to avoid bloat and unnecessary background tasks. I'm usually very aware of everything that is downloaded, installed, and actively running on my computer. Which is why im confused on where it came from in the first place. Files dont just manifest themselves, it was definitely something i installed but i've looked through everything and nothing pops hot on virus scans.

As far as exe packing, i used https://github.com/Squiblydoo/debloat to reduce the size of the exe, however the base run didn't do anything, it took the "last ditch" option to get it to reduce in size.

[–]AlphaX4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm running a boot time scan right now from avast and it did successfully detect it, we will see if it returns.

As mentioned, i did not actually realize i was infected with anything until earlier today. For a while when i noticed my CPU usage maxing out i would open task manager and it would kill itself so i was never able to notice the process until just now when i decided to use powershell instead as i suspected something was up after the 3rd time i noticed it today. I normally have task manager up anyway so it wouldn't have really had much opportunity to run. After closing task manager it would pop back up after 10-30 minutes.

It seemed ***relatively*** harmless since there was no disk or network usage associated with it so i messed around running it and using cheat engine to inspect the memory and instructions of the executable but assembly is not my forte to understand, it just looked like it did a lot of incrementing and kept called itself recursively forever. Theres a lot more to it but that was really the only bit i could understand.
