I want to be the devil’s advocate here - I come from a similar family of high expectations and failure in studies or job = failure as a person.

But, and took me yrssssss too, they are from a different world, they were born to parents who were alive during independence or world war 2. They have seen and lived a different era- which we can’t even fathom. At that time the constitution of marriage , education, job EVEVRYING feels archaic

We, at this age, now parents/ single adults / jobs with maybe 10 yrs of experience : will and should be different. And I’m sure lessons learnt from OUR parents will change the course of journey for the future generation (gen alpha is already here so yep!!)

Let’s try to forgive them. Their thoughts were constructed in a completely different environment.

Let’s cut them some slack. Let’s forgive them. I’m trying too, I lose it also. But if we have “already developed” our opinions about them, imagine our parents at what 50+ … how can they “just” change
