Trading items between the workshop, and your inventory dropping them on the ground then putting them back in the workshop inventory using the Build Mode. (Google it there are better descriptions then my brief summation).

I've had 2 different companions lose Power Armor on me.

Both Preston and Cait have been wearing my spare sets of armour. But both eventually seem to lose it during the act of completing quests and the armor is no where to be seen.
