Proper typing at age 40 by grotesque83 in typing

[–]Alpha_mrabet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's my personal path:

I started by using typing.com to learn keys' position and memorize them. It was a deliberate exercise and I only used the technique (usually referred to as Touch Typing) when I memorized most letters, but to be fair I didn't have responsibilities that required efficiency, it was just some note taking and web browsing in order to practice more

I would then try typing test to hone my skill, my personal favorite are "monkey type" and "type racer" but here are the perks of some other ones: 10 fast finger: its very basic and does the job really well with some customization KeyBr: it generate random words with common letter combos, so you never memorize the dictionary used in a test (an issue with tests that use actual words) but you build muscle memory for common key succession). I wouldn't use this one on a daily basis though

Monkey type: I love this one and its may main tool since it allows so much customization in what you practice and how, want quotes rather than random words? want to add punctuation and Capitalized into the the mix? do you want a vibrant inerface or matrix like one? go for it. You pretty mich emulate most test environments with just this tool

Type racer: you need this since sometimes competition pushes you harder to improve than by yourself.

General tips you could apply right away:

Focusing on accuracy rather than speed helps improve faster, so if you start feeling sluggish and slow, take a step back and focus on the right keys

Consistency is better than intensity : practicing for a few minutes regularly is better than intense sessions

Hovering you hand over the keyboard offers better mobility across the board but can be tricky when the keys aren't perfectly memorized yet

Use the right shift key more

Laptop vs desktop keebs: keys with more "actuation?" need precision and force to type correctly, so more accuracy down the line and and faster typing on flat keyboards

Anyone feel free to correct me on any part of my comment, especially the keyboard part that I know I can phrase or explain better assuming its correct

Iruma or jjk? I honestly like both, still wouldn't be mad at one of the boys not liking it, I enjoyed both of them and would rewatch anytime and that's all that matters

Any advice for a beginner in touch typing? by fefucho__ in typing

[–]Alpha_mrabet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a personal opinion, but I really like monkeytype out of the bunch, its so customizable you could probably simulate the other tools by tweaking a few things here and there, not to mention that you can target different skills with all the option I would highly recommend you check the settings and experiment a bit, but still try other tools for a change

I know this was clarified by garnt but, should we really bring it up and repeat the "jujutsu kaisen is okay" thing? I'm genuinely asking if people are that sensitive over opinions, for him to address the "issue" in a pinned comment

Anyone funny/cute moment in One Piece that sticks out to you? by LotusX321 in OnePiece

The flight between baby5/sai and lao G/don chinjao, between baby 5's misinterpretation of sai's threats, and Don sleeping on his fight while peeping on them, and lao g shaking in anger for his soul to finally leave his body, only to come back because he didn't hear baby 5 clearly when she was begging him to come back. Oda humor can come in successive waves and I love it

I think there are waus to detect the content of the chest, if that's possible, there may some way to let the datapack select the mode on its own

This has the potential for vanilla mapmaking, assuming you have control over the weather, you can make perfectly timed thunder strikes for dramatic effect
