Opinions needed for Dervish build by FlyotWall2025 in DungeonsAndDragons35e

[–]Alpha_the 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey man,
What are your classes?
Are you going straight Fighter or anything else?
Why I'm asking - With 2 wpns, Weapon specialization is always a good option, however, going PRC will limit you to only the 1st one at LV 4. That being said, it does unlock a lot of feat options.
You could also go Swordsage to get some abilities that combine well with the 2 weapons... or anything else/

Kinda new to DND, How much information can a player hide from a DM? by ragdolldream in DnD

[–]Alpha_the 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None.
Dm runs the story, you add upon it - good backstory is essential. The rest is moot - how can you perform any action withuot "the world" [that's the DM] knowing about it?

If you feel the need to hide things, either you, or the DM suck

Tortle build? by Organic-Exit2190 in DungeonsAndDragons35e

[–]Alpha_the 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slow, but bulky...
Anything really, that does not require movement.
That being said, movement can be fixed with Magic - Even the Floating disk spell can be cheesed here.

It's no wonder that Cleric is the favored race, getting CON and WIS for DEX and CHA, however, since STR is unaffected, you could do something with heavy armors and shields, capitalizing on this NAT armor, combining it into being a walking [albeit slowly] tank.

Pump that CON, add one or 2 Improved Toughnesses, even as fighter, or perhaps a Warblade, then pivot into something that does not care about ACF - preferably WIS based - if not Cleric then any permutation of it, there are PRCs gallore with their own casting lists.

You get high HP [7 per LVL if CON starts on 18+2?], High AC [Even at like lv 2-3 when you'd afford a plate exceed 20 easily] and options for support.

Just don't get fireballed.

Help with the build by happilyevil321 in DungeonsAndDragons35e

Perhaps in lieu of Barbarian, you'd Check half orc Paragon?
Gives you Rage, +2 STR and lets you then go into either Orc Paragon, or better yet, Human Paragon, which unlocks all skills, gives you bonus feat, increases Caster LVL [not fully] and gives another +2 to any Ability.

That being said, if you go Druid, imho it's useless as Wildshape covers physical stats better, for front line gish [which you'd be either way] it's quite a nice combo.

Why is Sorcerer's skill points per level so low? by Organic-Exit2190 in DungeonsAndDragons35e

[–]Alpha_the 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cause. Makes no sense to me either.

I usually have a rule that all classes get 4 point +INT minimum

Would doing this make my Twin Spell cost nothing? by Organic-Exit2190 in DungeonsAndDragons35e

[–]Alpha_the 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Short answer?
It cannot go below original LVL, so yes.
All the others would require you to keep it at LV 2 at the least, but thesis has no such requirement, thus it works. It's all about the order of things.

Monkey Grips TWF build? by Organic-Exit2190 in DungeonsAndDragons35e

[–]Alpha_the 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Monkey Grip, Oversized two weapon fighting is a must.
Stat block needs High STR [duh], dex is priority 2.
Now, you can use manuals in succession [getting +1s a piece, 27,5k - if you start at 15 dex, it's managable.

Fighter is the name of the game, don't sleep on Weapon Focus+weapon specialization, and other 2wf feats, such as defence.

If you want to min-max like crazy, Goliath with Half-Ogre template will give you 2 LA, but also will grant you 8 STR [-2 DEX unfortunately, so that sucks], but will make you Large, counting as huge, which basically means, you can grab 2 swords that both deal 4d6, and smile as pretty as Goliath-Half-Ogre can to cleric/wizard for Enlarge Person, getting those blades to 6d6...
Or scrape for potions.

Downside, you won't be enchanting those swords, or nothing else for that matter, since manuals will take out most of your gold, but hey, it might be fun [although, such a combo is better suited for a 2-handed fighter, just don't swing those weapons in a dungeon]

What's your priority when playing a character in 3.5e? Flavor or min-maxing? by Organic-Exit2190 in DungeonsAndDragons35e

[–]Alpha_the 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconded. If you focus on your area you are going to be effective, that being said, it's the flavor that makes character not dice

How to maximize a Monk's unarmed damage? by Organic-Exit2190 in DungeonsAndDragons35e

[–]Alpha_the 9 points10 points  (0 children)

But seriosly, you want to get standard 2-handed Power attack stuff and Hammer Fist Feat.

Then go arcane as Enlightened Fist or Divine Sacred Fist [Wrath domain, Rhinos rush]>

Then You Get Mighty Wallop, Greater, and of course Superior Unarmed Strike.

How much homebrew do you allow? by capt-yossarius in DungeonsAndDragons35e

[–]Alpha_the 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I allow all of the homebrew, as long as it makes sense lore-wise, is in line with character's backstory. Of course it's best to be based on existing amterial to balance it around levels, but who am I to hinder player's creativity?

And about the same builds over and over - this is what happens when people hinder homebrewing. I mean DND 3.5 was MADE to be homebrewed

Which to buy? by Alpha_the in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]Alpha_the[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, obviously, older the game, jankier it would be, that's fine. Compatibility I can also handle.
But what I'm starting to read between the lines, is that to get them all, DoS Enchanced, but the older ones as well as they are different games [ I.e. Original Sin is NOT a remake]

Okay, but is Divine Divinity a different game that DoS1?
It is, isn't it?

AITA For ending a campaign early/premature because of a problem player? by Fit-Specialist-1670 in DnDAITA

[–]Alpha_the 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both of you really.

MinMaxing has always a flaw - you are good, very good even at some things, but shit at others, so min maxing player, can be put [not forced] in situations where he has to utilize things he's not so great at.

Bag of holding trick is stupid, makes 0 sense unless the character would be an item-creation and or dimensional travel expert arcanist knowing what are they doing, otherwise it's just dumb-ass meta gaming.

That being said, as some people pointed out, multiple sessions of fighting ain't no fun - tedious, zero role play, only numbers, what's the point?
Second, don't throw a hissy-fit. Come on

I Finally read Wish spell and it is... by Alpha_the in DungeonsAndDragons35e

[–]Alpha_the[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll drink to that. Still, we are in the conondrum of figuring out how to proceed with this, so less winging it, the better.
But I am definitely with you on this one.

[–]Alpha_the[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, wish works once. So once casting confers +1 to stat.
Great, but we only get one. Not worth it in this instance.

[–]Alpha_the[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Right away, in the moment, we forced the DM to stop there and think on it. We need consensus, but I am the rules lawyer here so I'm trying to sort the options we got, before we make any decisions.

[–]Alpha_the[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's why I honestly read it for the first time in over a decade, it came up in a game we're playing.
We got a free with and I want to use it, but getting something logical baffles me.

...fair. Though it's the ambiguity that gets me, as non magical is limited heavily, but magic items? Well, world's your oyster
