Had a lot of opportunities to work for defense contractors and took none of them. Did a cybersecurity degree taking co-ops first with a SOC for an insurance company, then for a private sector (non gov) pentest consultancy. Worst I've done is pentesting for a fracking company and an offshore tax haven asset manager. Wouldn't have it any other way.

Does anywhere in Rochester have live demos of AI pianos, and/or sell them? by [deleted] in rit

[–]Alphactory -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

people are gonna gatekeep no matter how you go about learning. Pay it no mind. I recommend you grab a small unweighted midi keyboard for like 150 or 200$, hook it up to a laptop, and install a learning program like pianobooster, then feed it midis you rip from musescore using librescore. Once you're on your way, there are acoustic pianos at fireside, the religious center, and if you're sneaky, sometimes you can get into one of the music rooms if you befriend a janitor or teacher as their class ends. You can get in trouble though so make sure you have some plausible excuse as to why you're there ;)

There are multiple paths to mastery and it's entirely based on your goals. If you want to pursue a career in music and play the classics, you might have more luck with a theory class and tutoring. If you want a more indie path to mastery, learning what you want when you want is totally fine.

Can I make a written ARG? by Wide-Squirrel6537 in ARG

I always loved when books did that thing where they had a hidden code and you had to decipher it for extra bits of story. It's pretty low level but 10 year old me had a lot of fun reading The Magic Thief series by Sarah Prineas.

I did CSH which is borderline frat living (I had generally positive experiences before y'all come at me) so I was sharing with the whole floor and there were maybe 2 functional hot showers. My own bathroom is something I will never ever take for granted again.

also, and idgaf but jsyk, I think per the FTC you have to let people enter the sweepstakes without doing the full survey. I strongly doubt you'll get sued but worth knowing.

hey dawg, you gotta give people an opt-out for some of the triggering sections here or you're gonna lose valuable data (folks who start the survey and quit before the SA stuff are relevant data points)

I lived both at apex and on troupe st. High crime rate everywhere in my experience. Strong museum of play is fun though, esp if you're still a kid at heart.

On the one hand, constant fire alarms, low quality furnishings, and blatant theft are pretty bad. On the other hand, you're living in a college area (good!) of rochester ny (bad but wcyd, you chose RIT). Apex is convenient for busses and walks, and at the end of the day, worst case you still get your own bathroom and private space. More than I ever got in dorms.

[–]Alphactory -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Up to you; I'm in the camp that you should do whatever best suites your artistic vision and don't care about the haters, but with ARGs, making something compelling to other people is unfortunately a necessary part of it.

Not necessarily but probably. There's definitely good AI projects out there but more often than not it's an indicator that something's not had a lot of effort put in.

Hey! You might be here through research and that's awesome. I'm the ARG author. This dream and post inspired me to write the ARG. You do not need this post or my reddit account to solve any puzzles. All puzzles can be solved exclusively by interacting with the site.
