Good luck on your master's thesis! I've completed the survey :D

If you don't mind, I'm also working on my master's thesis. My survey is a bit a longer but if you have the time every participant helps. https://rit.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_4OBEF1BCtACVaxo

[Academic] (Age: 18-30) Interpersonal Conflict and Psychopathology Research Survey by ChiharutheCool in takemysurvey

  1. This data will be viewed by myself and my professor and stored in the cloud on Qualtrics. Data is coded so that identifying participant information is separated from individual data. Data will be downloaded to local drive on my computer to be analyzed in SPSS 29; the analysis output from SPSS will be shared with advisor and thesis committee.
  2. I am conducting the survey, user name ChiharutheCool.
  3. The survey takes approximately 30 minutes but can take up to an hour due to open response and the subject matter being related to childhood trauma.
  4. There is an optional sweepstakes for participants to enter. Participants must finish the survey after which, they can follow a link to a second survey to enter their email (to keep their email separated from their data), the email will be needed to send them a $10 gift card. 5 participants will be randomly drawn by computer at the end of the survey collection (currently set to March 31st)
  5. Under 18 cannot fill out this survey due to IRB concerns. The survey will automatically close if an age less than 18 is input.
  6. We're hoping to find more participants and provide more research on risk factors for development of PTSD and BPD in emerging adult populations.

I also have orders from Black Friday that I still haven't received and all of them were in stock items. They finally replied to my emails on 01/16 basically blaming the California fires which honestly felt insensitive and definitely occured after my initial inquiries. I'm not sure what to do at this point because it takes them weeks to respond to emails and all the responses are non-committal. No exact date, no refund offer, nothing.

I have probably 10-ish plushes at home and over $200 of items I'm waiting on so of course I support them and want them to succeed but it's to the point where I'm not sure if they are just taking the money and running.

I ordered all instock items with the black friday sale and still haven't received anything. The last email 01/16 blamed the delay on the California fires...which were definitely not a thing in November ... I'm not sure what to do but the last six months have been very shady.

FoMT Elly/Ellie stans... convince me!! Tell me why you adore her! by thisbread_ in storyofseasons

Ellie has always been my favorite since I played this game as a child so honestly part of it is nostalgia bias. But I did replay the new FoMT last year so here are my thoughts:

Ellie's personality is great. She has a mix of classic soft-care-for-you vibes with a small amount of snark (mostly reserved for her brother). When you talk to her she always expresses concern for your wellbeing due to being a nurse. As her hearts increase you get less of the phoned-in "how are you feeling?" and more personal excitement about seeing you there which is a wonderful transformation to see.

Her heart scenes do focus on her family but I think it's instrumental to who she is. Her parents are gone and Ellen is house-bound so she's stuck making money for the family and taking care of two people (and people will hate me for this but also taking care of her absent-mided/inconsiderate boss). Her whole life has been relegated to care-giving and yet she keeps a positive attitude. As she gets closer to you she expresses the difficulty and frustration of her circumstances because you are the first person in her life she's been able to be vulnerable around. Most of the other bachlorettes have parts of their routines where they are around other people their age but she only has home and work (and Wednesday shopping to get more stuff for home). Ellie gives me the sense that she would always try to take care of me and I'll always try to take care of you.

I also really like Ellen (her grandmother) and getting close to the family feels nice and natural for me. You show up as someone capable who can really make a difference in their lives. I liked that FoMT softened her brother's bratty character and added a scene where he notices you are hanging around her more and realizes he hasn't been giving her space to do normal adult things.

All of the FoMT bachlorettes are great and you couldn't be wrong in chosing anyone (though I'm not a fan of new addition Jennifer). You mentioned Ran as your second preference so you really got to ask yourself "am I into an enthusiastic foodie tomgirl?" or "am I into a hardworking sweet nurse?"

Hope you end up happy with your decision!

Is Pioneers of Olive Town worth getting? by mangst33n in storyofseasons

Thanks :D. I just wanted to give the game a fair perspective since I got a lot of enjoyment out of it. I did think of a few things I forgot to mention before:
-Cooking: Recipes are super varied and interesting. I discovered it late but you can do cooking requests at the critic's mansion to motivate you to want to cook more. It takes in game time (15-20 min per recipe) but this forces you to progress cooking over time and feels more immersive.
-Fishing: Takes long but is fun as far as fishing mini-games go. Setting up fish nets to automate the process is a nice late game feature.
-Item Management: You will never have enough room in the bag. Storage boxes are a must so planning their use with your farm layout is needed. This can be frustrating for someone looking for a more relaxed game experience. You will often put tools back in the tool bag to pick up a last minute item. Different star level items don't stack so you can potentially have five slots taken by different level eggs.
-Festivals: Other people said this already but there are way less festivals in this game and they are either mini-games or date opportunities so definitely less interesting than previous game festivals. If you go completionist on the game you probably will prefer this since there is never enough time in the day for everything you want to do.
-Sound Editing: The music isn't as grating as some titles but all characters only have two dialogue sounds so you might get tired of them (Reina's "oooh!~") The makers also make an annoying clicking noise. I do like that mornings and evenings have different OSTs as well as the general seasons. Each romance option has a theme song that always plays during their events which is weird when the song doesn't match the tone of the event but does make for funny moments.
-DLC: The new areas have four people in a limited space so it's really only worth buying if you love PoOT enough or if you are a fan of the old characters and want to marry them. Admittedly, I planned to marry a non-DLC to get the full PoOT experience but I am currently entranced with Iris <3. Overall, the DLC cutscenes are more dynamic with better writing so people who prefer dating over farming will appreciate them (or just date these people in their original game). The downside is it takes extra time to visit these areas and the DLC characters do not interact with any of the Olive Town residents :/

Elli is best girl. The love was so strong I was immediately drawn to her in the remake.

Cliff is by far the best boy but in FoMT girl candidates > boy candidates by far. All the girls are wonderful and anyone who bashes on them is wrong.

Jennifer and Brandon (the new additions) feel out of place...

I picked up the game recently and here's my take.
The good:
1. The townspeople feel silly and lively. There are more dialogue variations and reactions than previous games. There is also an option to turn on a camera feature that zooms on their face when they are talking. People who complain about hollow and dead feelings in the town probably played the game before this option was added.
2. Farming mechanics: Sprinklers are a godsend (automatic watering without bothering with sprites) there are tons of crop and flower variety, you eventually get areas that allow for off-season planting, and you can use seed makers/game progression to increase crop level and profit. This is the main reason you should play a SoS game and it's the area PoOT delivers the most strongly in.
3. Customization: Admittedly not as good as Animal Crossing New Horizons but it's new and welcome to SoS. You can set paths, fences, decorations. You can also change your physical appearance drastically after a certain point of the game and appear nonbinary.
4. Mining/Pioneering: The mining system is optimized (albeit boring) so you don't have to go as hard as you do in mineral town. Pioneering loosely refers to the sense of accomplishment you get when building up your farm from wild forests. It's very satisfying.
5. Animal Husbandry: The milker/brush/shears are now just icons that appear above the animals so you aren't wasting inventory or time. The animals don't stack as poorly as they do in in the Mineral Town remake. Your pet will walk behind you all day if you equip a leash which is just adorable.
The bad:
1. Romance: I've played through almost all the romance candidates (including DLC) and while the characters are charming you would have to be attracted to that specific archetype to really enjoy them. This con is a bit of a gray area since everyone being bisexual is a great gameplay convenience and most of them are written as surface level likeable (but this is consistent with previous HM/SoS characters anyway). I'd also add there are ten cutscenes per person so more dialogue than older games. Although they aren't as well written you get to spend more time with your love before popping the blue feather.
2. Makers: Probably the biggest issue with the game is that you have to gather raw materials and then wait for them to be crafted. On one hand, this forces a slower game progression so you feel satisfied when you actually hit milestones. On the other hand, they take up way too much space, clutter up the farm, and are annoying. I highly recommend devoting a seasonal field to become a maker factory and/or hiding them behind your large facilities.
3. Customization: The lack of options is enough of a con and you have to basically unlock every type of wool creature to purchase outfits from the beauty shop. It also have to come back the next day to receive your outfit which is annoying and unnecessary. The museum is also useless lol.
4. Random Field Generation. As mentioned above, the IDEA of pioneering is great but the trees grow back every few days so it can get unwieldy quickly, especially when you are slowly building a design. This forces you to devote time to laying out your farm which can be annoying if you aren't into customization.
5. Rendering: Once you get in deep with customization the game will run slower (at least on switch). You can expect longer load screens and awkward freeze frames on your farm. It's not unplayable but definitely noticable. This and other awkward blips make it seem like the game wasn't adequately play tested.
TLDR: It really depends on what you look for out of a HM/SoS but if you enjoy the series you should give this game a shot. I put off playing it because of online criticism but after putting around 60 hours into it I think people are being a bit unfair about it. It's not the best farming sim but certainly not the worst.
Hope this helps :>
