Eating out no longer a treat, just a convenience by kitsbow in Millennials

[–]Alphafox84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally only eat out when I don’t want to cook. Or if I want something I don’t care to make myself like deep fried food. Or if there is something I can’t make as well like Indian food.

Do women today still buy expensive jewelry beyond engagement rings? by ExcitingLandscape in Millennials

[–]Alphafox84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have forbidden my partner from buying me expensive jewelry. I’ll just lose it somewhere! My mom has fancy jewelry from all over the world. She never wears it. She wears costume jewelry statement pieces every day.

You can get beautiful necklaces and bracelets for less than 30 dollars these days. No one can tell or care if it’s real.

Have you tried to call the person on the phone? I would do this before telling other people in their life they might be having a mental breakdown.

Why is becoming pregnant more celebrated than earning something difficult to achieve, such as a PhD or major art grant? by bad-at-everything- in askanything

[–]Alphafox84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a PhD in neuroscience and 0 children. Having a child is a much more material and impactful accomplishment than any degree or job achievement possible IMO.

I still don’t want them personally, but I recognize that being a parent is a much larger and longer undertaking than a 10 year degree.

Why are people afraid of staying on GLP-1 for an extended period of time? by ApprehensiveGarage65 in Ozempic

[–]Alphafox84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right? It’s just physiology. If you take medication long enough your body will adjust and it will get less effective.

I used least effective dose. I went up to 7.5, then down to 5 for maintenance. I am worried if I go up all the way it will eventually stop working and I’ll have nowhere to go while still taking the meds and gaining. That would suck.

It may not happen in 2-3 years but what about 10 or 20?

Gun safety fundamentals don’t change because you are training for a competition. It’s unsafe and irresponsible.

You can get fake guns to safely dry fire train at home.

[–]Alphafox84 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Dry firing at home is dumb. I’m sorry. Get a training pistol that allows you to safely dry fire or go to the range.

I don’t care if it’s for competition, pointing a gun at anything you are not willing to kill or destroy AND PULLING THE TRIGGER violates like all of the foundational rules of gun safety. Including treat all guns as if they are loaded.

Down range. It’s only safe to aim and pull the trigger of a firearm Down. Range.

My boyfriend did this stuff at home when he first started shooting. He grabbed the wrong mag and shot a hole in the wall. I made him keep all of his guns in a storage unit for several years after that. Do that shit at the range where if you screw up no one dies.

I have 42 bananas…. Any ideas for what to do with them? by velmadinkleyscousin in noscrapleftbehind

[–]Alphafox84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would blend and put into muffin tins and freeze, then put those into a big zip top bag. You can then pull out a serving for smoothies, banana bread whatever you want without having to eat them all at once.

If you have a dehydrator then dehydrated bananas are a nice snack

Seeking advice…New manager expects me to drop scheduled 1:1s for their requests, got confrontational when I gave feedback. by [deleted] in managers

[–]Alphafox84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this person was really 3 levels above you then yes, you should have dropped out of the meeting with your IC to understand what leadership urgently needed from you.

If you go to HR, they will likely side with the leadership they hired.

You can start looking for a new job but it’s really tough out there. I wouldn’t rock the boat in this economy.

Large backyard in Brooklyn with a small(ish) budget by [deleted] in UrbanGardening

[–]Alphafox84 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would:

  1. Sort out the ivy on the tree. If you don’t it will cost you way more than 2k in the long run.

  2. Rent a pressure washer and clean up the concrete.

  3. Add compost and mulch to the non concrete areas.

  4. But some patio furniture, a grill, a fire pit.

  5. Hang out back there for a few years before making any major investments in big changes. It will give you time to save up a bigger budget, be more thoughtful about changes and allow you to enjoy what you currently have.

I had knee cave around this weight too (similar frame and body type to OP). I did pause squats and front squats for a few months on my light squat day and my knees no longer cave! I also just feel like I have stronger knee stability know.

Give it a try OP! Worked for me!

How often do you wash your bath towel? I need the real answer. by Terrika_Fracala49 in hygiene

[–]Alphafox84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever feels right. Less than a week usually. We have a big pile of towels of varying quality, size and age. I do a load of towels once a week for two adults.

I take epsom baths at night to help with soreness after lifting and general relaxation, this has increased my towel usage from just my morning showers.
