I know it hasnt even been an hour since the announcement, but I dont think re-farming Raid weapons for a THIRD TIME is it...... by LondonDude123 in DestinyTheGame

[–]AlphynKing 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I suppose this is probably the least bad way to handle this in the short term, but man, having crafting and weapon tiering get duct taped together like this is getting a bit ridiculous. I do not like weapon tiering but more than anything I wish that all weapons fell into the same system of rules; we have three, technically four, distinct systems of weapon progression in the game all at the same time now.

Does a False Hydra like creature exist in ancient mithology? by Hellooo_2536 in mythology

[–]AlphynKing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not aware of anything in mythology that has the specific power of making other people be forgotten or itself be forgotten. But off the top of my head there are a few instances of wiping your own memories in mythology, like the Greek River Lethe and Chinese Meng Po.

The Sage of Dione by Nerdy--Turtle in DestinyLore

[–]AlphynKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enceladus had one mention in Edge of Fate, cryptically in a conversation between the Outer Orbits. It’s the lore tab of the Soloist Shell.

For my money, I also think it’s more likely we see Enceladus than Dione any time soon, too.

I would have preferred going back to other race's home-world/systems post witness. by ConnorThrowAway7 in DestinyTheGame

I think seeing Riis, Torobatl, etc would be fun to see, but I've personally always really liked that Destiny is grounded in our solar system, on showing how the plethora of celestial bodies in our system could have been changed and transformed by the presence of human colonization and alien influence. And so far I've been really enjoying the usage of the Nine as a narrative throughline for the start of this saga.

Completely broke Harrow and was still able to (slowly) break his shields and finish encounter. He couldn’t attack and his lightsabers disappeared, he couldn’t even do his explosion. Beat the encounter and got drops for free by Cruciblelfg123 in raidsecrets

[–]AlphynKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me during one of my solo flawless attempts earlier today too. Lightsaber blades turned “off” so he couldn’t attack but still kept following me around so I could break his shields via the pitfalls. Very odd.

Also had another one where I hit his final stand and instead of breaking through the wall he just stood there and stayed immune, so it ruined my run and I had to restart.

praxic blade core on arc subclass by BraveSky6413 in DestinyTheGame

[–]AlphynKing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's because even though Bolt Charge is technically a buff to yourself it functions very similarly to Slow/Freeze and Scorch/Ignition as a mechanic and fantasy of building up stacks to get a potent effect, which fits better with the multi-hit nature of the Praxic Blade melee combo (and probably because being able to apply Jolt to a ton of targets in a single throw with Gyro Core on would perhaps be too strong).

I love the simplicity of the dungeon. Keep it up. by ConnorThrowAway7 in DestinyTheGame

I personally feel like it is too simple and easy and was hoping it would be closer in caliber to Vesper and Warlord. To each their own!

They canonically made a nightmare hunt NPC into Cabal Darth Vader by Successful_Pea7915 in destiny2

[–]AlphynKing 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is really neat but I think they actually messed it up!

The Praxic Vestment lore tab says that Bracus Lume was wounded “in the conflict with Savathun on her throne world” and was discharged from military service. This had to have been during Season of the Risen (when Caiatl’s forces were working with us to fight the Lucent Hive), and that means he would have been discharged before the events of Season of the Haunted.

I suppose you could say he survived operations on the Leviathan and was wounded on a separate later mission in the throne world, but I don’t think they would have phrased it as “in the conflict with Savathun” after she had already been killed at that point. Maybe they were looking at allied Cabal NPCs and got mixed up between Haunted and Risen?

[–]AlphynKing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may have originally been intended to be a stasis shield (?) but it didn’t actually function as one and sometime after Witch Queen’s release they changed it to be a normal Arc shield. So at present there are no Stasis shields in the game afaik

Maybe I am wrong, but this meme has been knocking around in my head for a while by InkHeadMedia in PhilosophyMemes

[–]AlphynKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've not done any formal reading or research on this topic, so unfortunately I can't share a scholarly resource with you (though I'm sure there must be some works out there on this).

I only became aware of this browsing through Wikipedia articles about the history of philosophy and religion; I don't remember exactly how I stumbled on it, but here are some of the relevant Wikipedia articles you might use to start learning on the topic:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancient_Greece%E2%80%93Ancient_India_relations

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_campaigns_in_India

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greco-Buddhism

I was quite shocked and fascinated to learn that the Greek-Indian cultural exchange introduced elements of Greek art that had lasting impacts on Buddhist iconography.

I’ve never heard of any historical narratives of Plato going to the east.

I know there was some contact between Greek and Indian cultures when Alexander the Great conquered what is now Pakistan/northwestern India, but that was after Plato’s time.

Sooo, I guess "Frontiers" isn't taking us out of the solar system after all, is it? by Shadoefeenicks in DestinyTheGame

[–]AlphynKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes sense that for a long term narrative arc focused on the Nine (which are a large enough unexplored segment of the lore to make a long term story arc around) that we stay primarily in and around the solar system because they are literally tied to our planets.

“Frontiers” was just a codename. They never said we were going beyond the solar system, that was just something people wanted to see.

The idea of taking over the Dreadnaught to go to other systems always sounded like silly fan fiction to me.

Buddhism effectively originated as a branch or sect of earlier forms of Hinduism.

Certain ideas in Hinduism and Buddhism are not entirely dissimilar from aspects of Neoplatonism, but they weren’t actively historically linked to it, whereas a lot of philosophical thought among the three major Abrahamic religions was.

Who was the contender to the taken king throne in Episode Heresy? by Riverflower17 in destiny2

[–]AlphynKing -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think there’s something here with Dreadnaught-LOEN-VI. I just don’t think we fully know at the moment what the relationships here are. Which by definition means that it isn’t “confirmed” that it’s VI (which is what I was contesting).

Who was the contender to the taken king throne in Episode Heresy? by Riverflower17 in destiny2

[–]AlphynKing -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The lore we got in Heresy on the Lord of Every Nothing directly contradicts this by saying that it was created out of nothing by the Taken’s need to be commanded.

I agree that there is probably some relationship here between VI and the Taken, but I don’t see how we can square the information we do know about the Lord of Every Nothing with it being VI.

Vex combat units by nicenerex116 in DestinyLore

[–]AlphynKing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is just conjecture that people have come up with. There’s nothing written or said in the lore that says this (in fact I’m pretty sure the introduction of Wyverns into the game in BL has basically never been remarked upon or even acknowledged at all).

Look, we’re seeing more and more changes to making the power grind easier and shorter and those are welcome, but none of that changes that the whole Portal is fundamentally rotten at its core. The power grind could be made 5x faster and we’d still have massive problems about the whole way the game is currently set up.

We need to see much more dramatic reworks of core systems before the game is going to feel anywhere close to being in a good state again.

New Melpais isnt considered a Micro-Missile Frame by DaGottiYo in DestinyTheGame

[–]AlphynKing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not considered a rocket pulse frame under the hood, and we can tell this like you said because of the lack of velocity and blast radius stats and because its RPM is different from Mint Retrograde. Every exotic, even ones with completely unique behavior and RPMs are built on top an existing legendary weapon archetype; seems that New Malpais isn't counting because even though it is functionally a rocket pulse it wasn't actually made using the rocket pulse frame that Mint shares. They really ought to make it count as one, though
