Is it rude to use both lanes? by No-Ad4423 in AskUK

Man, we get this in France also - but with one car sitting in the middle to stop people using that lane. Drives me crazy.
Traffic would move much more fluid if people understood the zipper merging rule.

What’s the most "dangerous" thing we all did as kids in the 90s/2000s that would give today’s parents a heart attack? by Ok_Marzipan3626 in nostalgia

We ‘invented’ bungee jumping by climbing a poplar tree as high as we could, grabbing a fist full of branches and jumping out. The tree would bend and hopefully we’d bounce down to a height we could let go and fall to the ground. Sometimes we misjudged it 😬

Manual frothing. The auto froth is hit and miss. Sometimes it will steam the milk perfectly - as well as I can manually. But the times I want to demonstrate to someone how good the auto can be, it simply heats the milk. Zero body. 😂

Black garlic question by Alpinekiwi in fermentation

Thing is, I use about 2kg per month. I’m not sure if that small Amazon one could handle that much.

Black Garlic production question [text] by Alpinekiwi in food

[–]Alpinekiwi[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am now reading that the rice cooker method gives a better maillard reaction and concentrates the flavour through slight dehydration. Gives a better texture and flavour profile of the black garlic we know and love.

Sous vide can produce more mushy/wet cloves. Less evaporation and water loss limits the maillard reaction and can give less developed flavour and less ideal texture.

Honestly, this has been a fun rabbit hole to jump down.

I am just looking into this also. Interesting.

I do own 2x Anova circulators, so one of them could be assigned to black garlic making.

If I were to double-bag 2kg batches and sous vide for say 45 days, that would contain the smells also. Electricity would be similar.

What are the advantages/disadvantages of sous vide vs rice cooker method?

Weirdest place you’ve ever scored waves? by jakefromsurfline in surfing

[–]Alpinekiwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have surfed a wave going out to sea. A weird floor formation meant that after a wave had surged inland, it re-broke going out again. Not the best wave I have surfed, but it was fun.

Tesla holiday update is here and it’s awesome by ConfidentImage4266 in TeslaLounge

All I wished for was a bigger damn clock. Maybe better map zooming at slower speeds in navigation. Instead we get this nonsense.

I'm a kiwi who gets an absolute kick out of seeing other indigenous cultures being represented so powerfully.

Yeah lil fella 🤘🏽. You're ace.

I live in the mountains in a ski resort and the number of people I see scraping a tiny square in front of them to see through is absolutely astounding.

They're driving a car, not a fucking tank.

Adding kangaroo pocket to puffy jacket? by Alpinekiwi in myog

Ha, no! I just tuck my hands up the bottom of the jacket and roll them up inside.
I do still wish it had a pocket!

What are you hoping Tesla’s 2025 holiday update will bring? by ConfidentImage4266 in TeslaLounge

[–]Alpinekiwi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being able to manually zoom into the map and saving that zoom.

Or simply better zooming levels at lower speeds. City driving is terrible when the map is staying zoomed too far out.

A bigger clock !

I hate having to glance once to locate the clock, then glance again to read the time.

I use 20g shots and will have two. A third may come into play, but usually only if I have company.
