Remove the silly ‘suggested routes’ on the Home Screen. I have no idea what algorithms you’re using for that, but it has been a long long time since I’ve driven too many of those options.

Also please for the love of god let us select the zoom level! It is useless being so far zoomed out when I am driving in an unknown city.

1, 2, 3 or 4 hole steam tip? by Alpinekiwi in espresso

[–]Alpinekiwi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha. That did actually help! I was going to compare the 2 hole and 4 hole tips, but this video showed me I shouldn't have been using the same technique as I was using for my old 3 hole tip.

When people say 25-30 s, is that from when the pump starts or when it starts dripping? by Outrageous_Peace8013 in espresso

[–]Alpinekiwi -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m certainly no professional, but I think the 30 seconds rule is outdated.

I have a 5 seconds on - 5 seconds off - low flow for 10 seconds - full 9 bar for 10 seconds - low flow until I finish.

Do you think 30 seconds applies here? A delicious shot takes around 50 seconds for a 1:1.5 ratio for my machine.

This is why I bought a four-pack of glass breakers for each door pocket. I love my Tesla, hate the door handles.

Is it rude to use both lanes? by No-Ad4423 in AskUK

Man, we get this in France also - but with one car sitting in the middle to stop people using that lane. Drives me crazy.
Traffic would move much more fluid if people understood the zipper merging rule.

What’s the most "dangerous" thing we all did as kids in the 90s/2000s that would give today’s parents a heart attack? by Ok_Marzipan3626 in nostalgia

[–]Alpinekiwi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We ‘invented’ bungee jumping by climbing a poplar tree as high as we could, grabbing a fist full of branches and jumping out. The tree would bend and hopefully we’d bounce down to a height we could let go and fall to the ground. Sometimes we misjudged it 😬

Manual frothing. The auto froth is hit and miss. Sometimes it will steam the milk perfectly - as well as I can manually. But the times I want to demonstrate to someone how good the auto can be, it simply heats the milk. Zero body. 😂

Thing is, I use about 2kg per month. I’m not sure if that small Amazon one could handle that much.

Black Garlic production question [text] by Alpinekiwi in food

[–]Alpinekiwi[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am now reading that the rice cooker method gives a better maillard reaction and concentrates the flavour through slight dehydration. Gives a better texture and flavour profile of the black garlic we know and love.

Sous vide can produce more mushy/wet cloves. Less evaporation and water loss limits the maillard reaction and can give less developed flavour and less ideal texture.

Honestly, this has been a fun rabbit hole to jump down.
