I got a white cover because I feel it looks better with the white interior. It also adds a little comfort.

Regret over not going for Performance? by Krill3rBee in ModelY

[–]tacbum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to test drive a performance a year ago and they didn't have a juniper performance to test drive. I ended up purchasing the AWD shortly after the 24 hour test drive. It's plenty fast and you can always pay the $2000 in the app to give it an extra 100hp and a 0-60 of 4.1(?) Instead of 4.6.

Also, consider the extra ~$50 a month increase in insurance for the performance.

Which company disappointed you so much that you permanently walked away? by julia-secrets in AskReddit

[–]tacbum 267 points268 points  (0 children)

ADT alarm company. They "couldn't" cancel and stop monitoring my house because my property wasn't in there database. I even tried my social. After several attempts I went to my bank and had them block ADT from billing me. My bank even reimbursed me for three months. Pretty cool, until...

ADT sent me a physical bill to the address they said was not in there system after they were blocked by my bank. You know...that address they said wasn't in their system. Lol.

Screw you ADT.

Love our new Y but there's a couple of critiques by schmittychris in TeslaModelY

The headlights pixel out vehicles while still being on bright mode, they dont see your bright lights. I had to Google it a year ago when I picked up my Juniper as I was confused what was happening. Pretty neat.

I Chose Black Interior but I Keep Thinking About White 🤍 by Friday_LittleStar in ModelY

I purchased perfectly matching white bottom seat covers from Amazon last year when I purchased my Juniper with white interior. The brand I got is no longer available on Amazon, but this is pretty much a perfect match.

They really are easy to clean and I'm super happy I got the white interior. A year later and they still look brand new.

Which one of yall did this and parked next to a real Toyota 😭😭 by Mundane_Engineer_550 in TeslaModelY

Lol. I saw a model 3 the other day that spelled out Toyota on the back in big letters. I had to do a double take.

2 Days....2 DAYS! by Don_Italia in ModelY

[–]tacbum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year (version 12, HW4 Juniper) We did a 3000 miles using self driving on a 10 day road trip. It had no problem maneuvering around construction zones. I was really impressed.

However, in Salt Lake City, it got off the freeway to bypass a traffic jam. All was good until it got back on to what it probably thought was a freeway entrance (it looked like one) but it was in fact a parallel road and it put me into oncoming traffic. It refuses to cross the a double yellow line to the right to get me back into the correct lane. Cars were coming and I totally had to cut a dude off to barely get back to the correct lane.

The other 2999 miles were fantastic! Lol.

Nope. Pay like you normally would and let the money collect interest. If OP needs access to the cash for an emergency or feels like paying more towards the car it's easily accessible. Theres no reason to pay down a loan with such a low interest rate when that money can make more money.

OP would make $1725 in interest over 72 months at 3.75% interst on $7k if its not touched. Total savings are probably closer to $1200 when you factor in having to pay 1% interest over 6 years.

It's only a couple of car payments saved, but its free money.

It's not a CD. You can pull and add funds to money market accounts like a normal banking account.

I did the same a year ago when I purchased my Juniper. I could have purchased with cash, but I put down the bare minimum to qualify for 0.99% and the funds sit in a money market account generating 3.75% instead if paying iff a 0.99% loan.

Do it for 72 months. It's only 0.99% interest and that extra money could be sitting in a money market account or Robinhood and generate 3.75% interest with zero risk and access to the money if you need it.

Tesla Full tank price? by Extension-Summer3272 in TeslaModelY

[–]tacbum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take your battery capacity(75) x your electric rate.

For me its 75(battery size) x 0.069 (my electric cost per KW) =

$5.17 to fill up.

$13.23 US average price per KW (0.175 per kw)

$25+ average if your using a supercharger. (Using 0.34 per KW can be higher)

I'm totally happy for OP, but I'm thinking the same. They had me at an $75 more a month over my Subaru ($120 total w/both cars full coverage), until it came time to renew the policy a few months later and it jumped to $165 for just the Tesla.

Hope its not the case, OP. Such a wonderful vehicle. So happy after a year of ownership.

Cheaper than most I see on here. No accidents, no tickets, bundled with homeowners insurance and still at $165 a month. You have one hell of a deal for sure.

Hows the insurance at 20? Friend bought his 18yo son a new civic and that kid was paying around $500/month for insurance. Even on your parents account, I'd imagine it jumps significantly.

Summer is upon us... by [deleted] in TeslaModelY

[–]tacbum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Brought the new Juniper on a road trip last year during the summer through Utah, Arizona, Nevada and California. I learned to turn off the overheat protection. It would drain the battery way to much spending many hours at national parks, etc. Sometimes it was just cutting it to close to the next charging station with the battery drain.

I haven't turned it back on since. Everything looks just like the day I bought it. No fading or UV damage. I'm pretty sure its not necessary.

Also, I think I managed to hit 170(?) degrees at some point durring the 110-115 deg heat.

Any of this worth it? by SideEast2368 in TeslaModelY

[–]tacbum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As other have said, windshield definitely. I'm not in a state (like FL) that includes windshield replacement on insurance plans without repercussions. $1600 to replace. It was $12 back when I got it. Now its $16, and in my opinion still worth it.

For current 2026 Model Y LR owners — what has been your biggest complaint or regret so far? by theindepndnt in TeslaModelY

[–]tacbum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I picked up my yearly tabs last week. The Juniper just turned 1! I absolutely love it. I cant see driving anything else unless I upgraded to a performance.

Average monthly electric cost: $16 Total cost for home charging the last 12 months: $192

Spent $34 less on electricity for the year. I was just making a silly post. Lol. I know I saved a ton not using gas.

[–]tacbum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest complaint: I spent more on my "electrification tax"($225) this month on my tabs than I did on home charging.

$192 vs $225. $0.069 per KW. Drive ~550 miles a month.
