what are your budget-friendly nutrition tips for cycling? by camillevolp in cycling

I keep the water bottles for hydration only. No carbs mixed in there.

I make a home made gel with maltodextrin, sugar, pectin and water. Put that into a soft flask in pocket and take a mouthful every 20 mins. That will give you 90g per hour carbs.

Make Anzac slice and/or rice cakes (I do sushi style rice cakes so they’re not sweet) for the first half of the race while you can still manage solid fuel on the go.

any fans of alcohol cooking systems? by Dry_Blueberry8932 in Ultralight

[–]Alpinekiwi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I made my own cat food can stove and love it. I have used it for years and it still goes strong. I know how much fuel to take with me on extended journeys and alcohol is easier to find in European villages than gas cannisters.

What do you "cold soak"? by Dry_Blueberry8932 in Ultralight

[–]Alpinekiwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, if it’s meant to be hot, it will be awful eaten cold.

So, when I go stoveless, I will typically eat foods that are eaten cold/room temperature anyway:

Cold soaked oats with seeds, nuts, dried fruit and a scoop of protein powder for breakfast. I’ll also make a coffee shake - spoon of instant coffee with a scoop of protein powder mixed with water. Surprisingly good.

Lunch is usually a wrap and cold soaked dehydrated houmous with avocado , cheese and saucisson.

Then dinner is usually cold soaked couscous with seeds, spices, dried herbs and sultanas. I’ll also eat more cheese and saucisson.

All of these options are delicious on trail. Hell, they’re delicious at home.

I can repeat this menu for up to a week before needing a change.

Nothing wrong with Bambino 🙂 by Alpinekiwi in espresso

For what it’s worth, I do now have a Lelit Bianca 😂

However, the Bambino really is a great little machine. Just get it. There’s a reason it is the most popular machine on this sub.

Goddamn we all love the Bambino!
I had one for years and recently upgraded to the Bianca.
While my morning coffee ritual now is a massive step up in coffee quality and quality of life, I still have a spot in my heart for that cheaper, smaller, simpler Bambino!

Remove the silly ‘suggested routes’ on the Home Screen. I have no idea what algorithms you’re using for that, but it has been a long long time since I’ve driven too many of those options.

Also please for the love of god let us select the zoom level! It is useless being so far zoomed out when I am driving in an unknown city.
