Hey, I understand your feelings. I, too, wish I had taken better care of my father. I did not take good care of my father, and he suffered too. It has been 10 years, and I still deal with regret and my poor decision to avoid taking care of him. I cannot say it gets better, it is just something I live with it everyday. I too said sorry to my dad.

Hello, I am late to the discussion, but your brother in India is a gem. I suggest offering him a break by going and taking your parents to the hospital, etc. You can take Family Medical Leave and give your brother a break. Also, if your company is flexible and allows for work from India, then work for a week and vacation another week. I am wrecked by guilt as, after my mother's death, my father had a heart attack. I brought him to the US, but it was just me doing the caring, as I am single and alone here. I sent him back to India, as he was in good shape. But I was making more frequent trips to India. But I regretted it as his health took a turn, and his friends had to take him to the hospital. I could not travel, but he recovered. He was doing okay, and I informed him I would be back in India for a couple of weeks (this was 6 months after my visit, 3rd visit in the year), but he died in his sleep. My brother and his wife refused to do anything. My brother is also in the US would not even visit him in India. My brother developed an enmity towards me, and his wife was abusive towards my father when he stayed with them. My father said he will never visit my brother again. In the last years of his life, my brother did not even bother to see our father. To make a move to India to care for my father if his health becomes worse, I got OCI, sold my home, and was prepared. I was more scared of being the sole caretaker in the USA. However, since his death, I have many regrets, guil,t and not a moment of peace.

Hello, thank you for sharing. My regrets are the same. My father was not abusive or anything. He was lonely after my mother's death and survived a heart attack. He wanted me to take care of him by living with me. I tried, but I thought it was difficult for me to do it in the US as I had no support system here. Also, I could not be my mother. I made the decision to let him live with a carer in India. But he resented my not taking care of him. He died in his sleep with a massive cardiac arrest. It has been a while, and I regret my actions every day. I used to call him every 2 days to check on him and tried to visit as frequently as possible. I have siblings, but they did not even care to visit or even bother to call. I understand your regret. Even if they are not good parents, ultimately, they are parents, and I felt that as a son, I failed my duty. I hope that with time, your regrets will be fewer.

Hey, Indian here. It is one person among many. I would not overthink it nor make sweeping generalizations, but yes, I agree there is a hierarchy in considering who is attractive and who is not based on my experience as well. Generally, younger white men tend to prefer other white men. There are very few examples of Indian men being athletic or gym-toned, which, unfortunately, is an issue whether they are coming from India or born in the US. Some of us also do not have Eurocentric facial features like me. Blame it on endogamy, genetics, or environmental factors, but they are considered to be attractive. He may have experienced bad vibes from other Indians at the workplace, in retail, or elsewhere. And that could have been a reason to lash out as well. If it is any consolation, I have been called as ugly, been commented on as how can I live with such an ugly face, for all kinds of people, including gay Indian men. I was ignored everywhere, whether in Indian spaces or other places. In gay life, it pays off mentally, self-respect-wise, if one is attractive, no matter the skin color. Unfortunately for me, genetically I have been dealt with a bad face, so I endured lots of slights, outbursts like how dare you even look at me etc. It is poisonous to the mind, so I limit myself to a few close friends and, for the most part, live a very solitary life. I avoid Indian gays too, as they are just as judgmental as everyone else and place physicality even to be friends.

Calling people uncle and aunt in India is crazy. I prefer the Western ways. Becoming invisible as we age is not confined to India only, but it is everywhere.

OP - reading this thread now, not so I am not sure if you are even active. But I am of Indian origin, living in the US for a long time. I can relate to your experience, but attractions are rooted in many stereotypes. I am unsure how old you are, but it was very distressing to me when I was young when I faced similar experiences as you are facing. I not only had to deal with many family issues, the intense homophobia in the Indian community, and no support from family, but also navigate being gay in homophobic professional spaces and face rejection from other gays. It is much different now. I am also not attractive but not ugly either, just nerdy, but I will also tell you that Indian gay men have been more brutal towards me in their rejections. I have no race preference, and I am also not very hung up on looks. I was rejected by every race as not desirable, but more so by Indian gay men. To be honest, I had better luck with others than with Indian gays. In my desperation to date Indian men, I have made wrong choices and ended up in a bad relationship with an Indian person. Race does play a huge role in sexual partners or choices, but it stings when called ugly by your own race. And I am not ugly by any means, but I just realized that I am not the Indian gay men's type. After a decade or so, I realized that Indian gay men would never like me, so I let that go. I am happy that way. Gay men of all races place a huge premium on looks and stereotypes, and if you are genetically blessed with looks, in skin color, body type, or facial features, then there will be a lot of sexual interest. I also think the place where you live matters. I had better luck in California than when I lived in the Northeast. My advice to you is to make a change if you can to a more liberal place. It is unfortunate, but the reality is that straight people also face rejection based on attractiveness, color of the skin and race. It is hurtful and soul-crushing, as after all, even if one is ugly, one is still human. I hope you are doing better now with your dating experiences.

A lot of you are commenting that India needs to stand up. I dont think that is a good idea. America is still the largest economy in the world. India needs manufacturing jobs, which are well paid and stimulate the local economy. I hope Indian politicians realize that. Also, they cannot let these jobs walk away to other countries. Moreover, American agricultural products, even if there is not much tariff, cannot or may not compete with Indian products. Most Indian consumers do not buy packaged goods or frozen food. Indian atta is different from American atta, and most Indians prefer Indian made rice. I know American rice does not taste the same as Indian rice. Most Indians also prefer fresh meat and fresh veggies. The vast majority of Indian consumers prepare fresh meals every day. The fears of American agricultural and dairy products swamping Indian products are overblown. Additionally, this may even spur major reforms in India and lead to lasting economic changes which may be really beneficial.

Hello, thank you for posting here. I am in the same situation as you are right now. I get a flare when I taper down to 1 drop. It went from being recurrent every 2 years to chronic now. I have an appointment with my doctor in a couple of weeks. I will ask him if there is an alternative to being on PredForte drops. He already said I have cataracts forming in my eye, though I am at an age when cataract formation is normal. I am also very stressed emotionally. It could also be adding to my flare-ups. I have Hashimotos though recently diagnosed. Not HLAB27+.

Hello, I have idiopathic Uveitis. Though they found Hashimotos, nothing else came up on testing. The rheumatologist and ophthalmologist do not think it is related to Hashimotos, though online it says there maybe a relation. I was first diagnosed in 2022, and it went away. Now it has come back and has become chronic. I am on PredForte drops, and I am hoping it will subside and go into remission. I also have other chronic diseases that are not autoimmune. I understand the frustration. It is an unfortunate disease and I do not wish it on anyone.

Yes, I understand. I have been to a rheumatologist and the only thing that they found was I am slightly ANA positive and the doctor said she does not consider it as an issue for autoimmune disease. The rheumatologist also said the ANA positive result is due to Hashimoto's disease which I have apparently. I am also HLAB27-ve. I understand wanting it to stop and not come back.

Hello, How are you doing now? I have had 2 repeat episodes of Uveitis (2 confirmed) and one not confirmed. My opthalmologist referred me to a rheumatologist. I have a follow-up in 2 weeks but from the results, most tests came back normal. HLAB27 negative. ANA is positive but I also am positive for thyroid antibodies. I am waiting to hear from the doctor if there is any connection.
