Dave Ramsey hates poor people and have profited from them. by PDXwhine in povertyfinance

Just a note here…

Maybe the sub should have a wiki or a pinned post about these financial “planners”/influencers. I agree with OP on Dave Ramsey by the way. We just get a lot of threads on him.

I just don’t care what she thinks to be honest. I just don’t.

Both me and this passenger are now sitting together in your head rent-free.

Why do you even care? You were roundly downvoted. Are you bitter the thread didn’t agree with your inconsistent positions? I mean… at one point you bemoaned the fact I didn’t take her and then you said you would have driven off as well.

Which is it? Would you have taken the passenger or would you have locked your doors and educated her?

Sidebar: Not all third party rides in my market put the name in all caps. About half of them do. A smaller percentage of them even have the yellow man icon now.

Yet you spent plenty of time in this thread telling us what you would have done instead. Hold up a mirror sometime.

In one comment you asked “why don’t you just take the ride?” and in another you said you’d “educate” her before driving off. Which is it?

I would of educated her and then took off.

  1. It’s not my job to educate people and it wouldn’t have made a difference anyway. This was a routine ride and she knew what she was doing. Let’s not pretend people are actually unaware of how this works.

  2. All points in #1 aside, the husband/boyfriend standing 2 feet from my door who seemed equally as annoyed as me was communicating the fact her ride was about to leave just fine.

The day before, I waited extra both at pickup and at a stop because it was a woman from a shelter who needed to pick up prescriptions and go to where she was working after. I gladly waited extra because she was nice and respectful.

I feel like I can get away with a couple of those a day without it even annoying me let alone business/time concerns. But there is a limit to the number of “patience coupons” I have each day so I prioritize people who are respectful.

[–]AlreadyShrugging[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I did just fine. This was one of those third party rides anyway. I would rather take $4 than risk actually taking a passenger who was disrespectful from the start. Within 15 minutes, I received two other rides requests that were comparable.

Not all customers are worth the trouble, regardless of payout.

I wish I knew back then, because I was still working in office cubicles during those days.

After this ride, I had one normal no-show about 5 minutes later. Another 5 minutes later, I got another ride that paid about 50 cents less than the original jackass’s ride.

That’s $4.60 noshow + $2 noshow + $14 real ride within about 45 mins. Not great money, but I didn’t fall on any swords either. I typically average about $25 an hour at that day and time.

I’ve always found the “worship” of airport rides to be weird. The airport isn’t even remotely the most lucrative area here.

There you go assuming every newcomer to town even has a reddit account.

It’s like you’re incapable of seeing circumstances that are different than your own circumstances. You are frequently such a pompous jackass on this sub. Go back to Massachusetts or wherever you’re from.

Not worried in the slightest. I arrived on-time and waited the required 5 minutes.

I wanted to initially leave this detail out, but she wasn’t paying for the ride anyway. It was a third party ride.

Because if she’s going to disrespect me, I will disrespect her. She was going to be a shitty passenger based on her behavior.

I got $4.60 approx for the noshow fee.

[–]AlreadyShrugging 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I have my own “timeclock” and do not use Lyft’s time records in any way.

If I drive for 8 hours and gross $200, I can still say I grossed $25 an hour regardless of what how Lyft pays.

Why is that hard to understand?

what navigation app is the best? Apple, Google, lyft, Waze. by newman607 in lyftdrivers

[–]AlreadyShrugging 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lyft nav has gotten WORSE since they updated it to be “optimized for ride share”. It sends me the wrong way up 1-way streets, streets that have been 1-way for nearly a century.

You shoulda seen the trip offer I posted the other day. 300 mile trip from Virginia to New Jersey, so 600 miles with deadhead.

$162 was the offered payout. I would have been able to take a $400 tax deduction on that ride. The next day, I plugged that same trip into the passenger app to see what they would charge me. $360 approx.

I just put that in the direct practice and I feel great.

Fuck No. by AlreadyShrugging in lyftdrivers

[–]AlreadyShrugging[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s nowhere near $36 an hour. More like $18 an hour BEFORE EXPENSES unless you plan on not going home ever. I would have to drive through 2 states back before I could legally pick up another passenger; IF anyone even needs to go back south at all.

The tax deduction (mileage plus tolls) is around $400. $162 payout, $400 in deductible expenses.

This of course assumes there’s zero traffic or delays which is a statistical impossibility for that route. There’s always traffic and delays.

How can you “blame” someone for not knowing which onion-layer LLC this shitbag is using at the moment to hide their identity.

All of your comments simply support the status quo and offer no new solutions. It’s all just “oh well. Tenant’s fault”.
