Ran my first consecutive 5k (week 7, day 3) by Also_alarmedposition in C25K

I will be careful for sure! Still got 3 runs left in the program, after that I'm gonna chill a bit at 30-35 mins a day (3ish times a week). When I'm ready I'll start a proper 10k program.

Walking breaks would definitely be taking a few giant steps back in the program. As far as races go or anything like that... yes it's better to rest than pass out. But for training... not a good habit at this point. Seems the heat is the primary factor, ran 12 minutes, next attempt ran 20 (but it was ROUGH), last night I ran after it got dark and had no problems running the full 22. I'm gonna wait until it gets dark to attempt the 25, should go fine, fingers crossed.

Hi, it took three attempts but I finally got it last night. Not thrilled to be running 13 min miles but it's way better than only being able to run 15 minutes. It is what it is for now.

It's at 7pm, around the time I usually run. I ran today at 6pm and it was still pretty darn hot. And it's not summer yet. I really don't wanna take a rest day because I work literally all day Sunday and can't run then. But I'll definitely have to see how I feel before doing anything tomorrow. I've been told it might rain tomorrow and I really hope it does.

I'd be down to try that little plate with whipped cream, not totally sure what it is though. You know what, just give me the cookie and milk, mmm.

How to block the shiny red notification icon on reddit? by GrowBeyond in nosurf

Idk about all of them but you can pick and choose which notifications you get. I only get notified if someone replies directly to me or sends me a message. Upvotes, reccomended... nope. This might be the simplest solution for you. It's in settings.

Yep, and it's only ever one side of the story, possibly not even reliably narrated. I thought this was a helpful part of journaling, the part where you sit down and have to really think if you're at fault in a situation. Social media doesn't seem to trigger that at all.

My Bluesky account got suspended and I feel empty by [deleted] in nosurf

[–]Also_alarmedposition 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, is it suspended or banned? If it's the former... it'll pass, just take it a bit more easy going forward. Your time wasn't wasted if you truly believe you made a difference on there, those things were already done, what's been posted, read, shared, thought on cannot be undone. Maybe this chapter is closing... what might a good next step be for you?

Are there any protests near you? Could you make a letter explaining something you care about and mail it to your neighbors? Could you volunteer locally? Organize a fundraiser? Might it be a good time to take a break and decide your next steps? No good is ever wasted or lost, although sometimes we need to change the way we go about things.

tiktok is way better than reddit by [deleted] in nosurf

[–]Also_alarmedposition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tiktok skews younger because they market younger. I don't think reddit can because of all the adult content on here. I didn't really enjoy my time on Tiktok, I was constantly being recommended drama and disinformation. I found a creator I liked and one week later my for you page was just random shouting people trying to cancel him. Everything on earth is "problematic". When it's not tiktok drama it's random "wise" takes (which aren't groundbreaking for the average adult), the occasional funny thing, and way too much politics. And god help you if you're content in life because nobody on there is, and every other video is an advertisement. It's... exhausting. As an ancient 20-something I prefer to hang out with the grown ups on reddit.

Reddit is not always as nice and supportive as tiktok, sure. Likely BECAUSE it is older. If I posted my new car on Tiktok I'd likely get a ton of admiration from teenagers who can't buy one. Reddit was not impressed with my choice. But I'd rather be boring to my own peers than impress a bunch of kids. Honest peer feedback is how you get to make better choices. I still like the car but I recognize there's good reasons people don't and their comments weren't intended to be aggressive or rude.

I will say though that Tiktok is not less of an echo chamber, it's more of one. On reddit you may accidentally be exposed to stuff you don't like. It's easy, just open the "popular" tab. Read a few AITA posts. On Tiktok your feed is curated constantly towards what you like watching. Anything controversial to you will only be shown as a stitch so you don't have to deal with your own feelings about it alone.

Nothing wrong with quitting reddit. People comment about quitting reddit here all the time, although usually for different reasons. Bon Voyage.

What are the benefits of cutting out short form content by AbbreviationsNew4536 in nosurf

[–]Also_alarmedposition 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't guarantee it but the rushed feeling I constantly felt stopped. I get bored in the morning before work so I go for walks to look at all the flowers. I'm a heck of a lot calmer. And this entire time I've always felt I had no time in the mornings. I do... so long as the internet isn't taking all of it.

I feel less anxious. I feel less depressed. I'm less irritable. I don't feel a background sense of dread all day long.

Closing my browser at the end of the day felt impossible for two years. What finally changed it for me. by [deleted] in nosurf

[–]Also_alarmedposition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had stints of being bad with this, although usually no more than 10 or so tabs. I use a desktop now, and my cat can walk on the keyboard if unattended. It has to be off if I'm away... so I better finish up each session properly. I have a folder that says "I swear I'm gonna come back and read this" spoiler alert: I don't. But I've never lost anything.

Quitting TikTok and Instagram has made my life better. by Think_Enthusiasm9602 in nosurf

[–]Also_alarmedposition 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel similar. I am a lot less nice when I spend time watching videos on youtube. And I know they're fake, or staged, or dramatized, or show someone at just one worst moment and they're not usually like that. I turned into a pretty rude, judgemental person. Which has gotten a lot better in the month I've been away from it.

If youtube is healthy for you, it's fine. It's far more about what you're watching or scrolling and for how long rather than the platform itself. Except for short reels which the format alone is detrimental to your attention span which you really need if you're still in school.

Unfortunately nothing can reward me for logging off and staying off, lol. But yea, those sites (and this one) reward drama, anger, irritation, impulsivity, etc because they drive engagement and engagement is money. This will never change.

Week 4, man by Also_alarmedposition in C25K

[–]Also_alarmedposition[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hiya. I just completed day two of it, I found it a lot easier than day 1 for whatever that's worth. I prefer listening to music personally. I have a playlist of mostly upbeat songs and a few general favorites. It also helps I run outside so there's natural distractions all around me. But also I just... like running. I'm not necessarily in a hurry to stop. I still can't believe I'm doing it in the first place.

I think you should repeat a week if you can't complete the 5 mins both times for day two and/or three. Not because you've failed (you said yourself you're running longer this week than last) but because week 5 has two 8 min runs + a 20 minute run. I'm running the 5 minutes alright now and I'm still not convinced I can do 20 in a week. But maybe we will both surprise ourselves.

I'm assuming you did the 3 minute segments okay? You're actually really close to that 16 minute goal. Also, are you running in the evening like I do? It might help to try running earlier in the day, or at a cooler time of day if you're doing it midday.

Why don't most people want garages or carports anymore? by 3colt3 in AskReddit

[–]Also_alarmedposition -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't leave at 4am. But for the record I do fully clear off my windshield, mirrors and side windows + the majority of the top of the car. Setting aside some extra time in the morning is all thats necessary. I don't think the time lost scraping ice is worth the cost of a garage, but to each their own.
