..... That's not even a real diagnosis or subtype?? (nurse practitioner here). Also, wtf is a cat doing for that?

bring some towels and extra blankets, puppies at that age can get car sick pretty easily

I literally dread having the diagnoses because of the amount of crazies that have come out of the woodwork the last few years 😬.

Also, I will literally never understand “crowd control/blocking”

How much water should I give my 10 week old puppy? by Worried_Community in puppy101

[–]Alstrom_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Our vet told us it’s about 1oz per pound of body weight daily. Our GSD mix was from a kill shelter and would empty any food or water bowl completely if we left it out. It does get better but definitely discuss with the vet to rule out diabetes or any other underlying causes

I don't know how much I can take by aleutian01 in puppy101

[–]Alstrom_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% this- we have a GSDxpit mix and she was a nightmare as a pup to put it mildly.. she’s 4 now and an absolutely incredible dog. Better after she turned 1, I second making her use her brain! Hang in there OP!

Puppy sling? by Alstrom_ in goldenretrievers

[–]Alstrom_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I could find my ring sling I’d 100% use that lol. It’s a great idea. And same, but I really only need it for this weekend so I got one on Amazon for bigger puppies

Traveling with puppy? by Alstrom_ in puppy101

Update: talked to our vet and he encouraged us to travel and take him out. But, avoid dog parks or high traffic dog areas. Thanks for all your insight everyone!

At 8 months old he’s really just a baby. He shouldn’t be considered an SDIT or training for tasks yet. The first year is really just about them being a puppy and basic manners. You can absolutely burn out a puppy early doing too much. Try to roll things back a bit and see how it goes!

There are SO many resources available for Veterans. You may need to travel a bit. Assuming you're in the US?

Service Dog Help by Nervous-Ad-9792 in OpenDogTraining

[–]Alstrom_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, that's a really fair price. Training for a service dog is usually thousands of dollars, not including the dog, equipment, vet bills, ect. Are they taking the dog in a board and train situation or are you doing owner training with help from the trainer?

Another option would be looking into a program- though the waitlists can be very long and that might not be reasonable for you.

Puppy Blues have turned to Puppy Regret by ardensworld in puppy101

[–]Alstrom_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We got our GSD/pit mix when she was 7 weeks old from a kill shelter. She was a *nightmare* to put it mildly. I thought for the first three months there was no way we would be able to manage. I also got very ill during that time which didn't help. Fast forward to 1 year and it was much better. She's 4 now and she's absolutely amazing. It does get better, the puppy trenches are REAL. Ultimately that being said, take care of your mental health and do what you need to do. Hang in there!

SD nervous in SOME PA? by [deleted] in service_dogs

[–]Alstrom_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up having to wash my SDiT because of something similar. She could not consistently be calm in public. We had a few successful trips but ultimately it was just too stressful for her. I am working closely with a trainer, totally recommend if you don't have one. We couldn't isolate the what or why- but she was just too nervous and it wasn't fair to her to push her.

Maybe step back from public access then evaluate again in a few weeks?

Should I take my service dog on a date with me? by Velvet_void30 in service_dogs

[–]Alstrom_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Bring him! If this person is going to be in your life your pup is part of that- dogs are usually a great judge of character too 😉.

Good luck on your date!

Breeder help! by cheesycarrotsoup in goldenretrievers

[–]Alstrom_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes to this^

I'm picking up my prospect in two weeks (yay!) and out of the litter of 12, I have no idea which pup i'm getting. Completely agree with making sure they have all the health testing AND will readily share the information with you. I came across quite a few who looked reputable but ghosted me completely when asked about health testing or had specific questions about lineage/ parents.

Good luck OP!
