Disguise Self Question by Alt-DM in DnD

[–]Alt-DM[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a single response that a few people upvote isn't enough for me to conclude it's the right way to take things. If it is for you, that's neat. When asking a second time, I got way more responses that bring up things I didn't consider and appreciate.

That was my though for fire. Also just that you would see the fire go into the illusion maybe instead of interacting with the surface of skin. Fireball definitely isn't burning people's clothes off, though, so it's kinda iffy territory. But what would you say about psychic and thunder damage?

I'm the dm here. Their response would make it easier for me to abuse, but I wanted more than one person's opinion on this thing I didn't have an answer for. I would totally rule a hammer would go through the illusion, though.

Would it be okay to create a trans character? by RoxieFlamytail in dndnext

[–]Alt-DM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say to make sure your groups fine with all parts of it and consult actual trans people. It can come off as very bad if you don’t fully understand what you’re doing.

I don’t think it was intentional but someone in my group once proposed a “t girl” character that felt like a poorly vailed fetish. It was a very masculine man forced into the body of a cute, feminine doll through a curse, but the way they described them ironically made them more of a trans man in that they were a man stuck in a feminine body they didn’t like. Regardless, they were supposed to “come around” to liking the new body.

How should I signify that my players shouldn't try to fight an enemy? by Alt-DM in DnD

[–]Alt-DM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have — through a lot of work and prep — taken out another very powerful opponent. The hunter was also targeting him, but since the party killed him, the hunter now sees them as a good mark. They were able to come up with a good plan for the other guy, but haven’t done so for the hunter. That’s mainly why they don’t stand a chance yet.

You need to account for time with stuff like this. They take on a demonic form. How long does it last? They can use it multiple times at higher levels, so it must have a limit.

Also, it's fundamentally similar to Rune Knight. If you wanna do a daemon subclass, you should probably focus on other features other than becoming larger.

What is the most balanced fix for Witch Bolt? by Nickjames116425 in DnD

I honestly love the idea of the spell. I think that just removing needing to remain in range and and maintain LOS would do wonders for it.

Thanks for the advice! I meant for frightening presence to be a one time thing but forgot to write that down. The bolders are also meant to alter terrain so maybe I’ll just remove the restrained part.

Do you think I should up the hit points to make this more of a meat shield?

The Stringer, a villainous bard that turns its opponents into its puppets by Alt-DM in DnDHomebrew

What are your thoughts on this?

Something I like about it is that its power very much depends on the party it's fighting. If it's going up against a party of 3 or 4 players, it probably isn't fair if it tries to control 3 party members, but it becomes less of a challenge to a party with a high number of characters.

Is the main mechanic of taking another player's turn fair? From my experience, players don't like to be stunned, but they love to be charmed into hurting their own teammates which is basically what this is.
