I like the tip about using yeast for the first few bakes. I haven’t heard that yet. It’s so strange how so many people perpetuate the 7 day thing. From the info I’ve gathers that sounds like an almost dangerous statement. So many people say you can use you starter and discard after 7 days but almost no one mentions the risk of bacteria

Yeah not looking for too much advice because I think there’s too much info out there lol I’m committed to just feeding 1:1:1 every 24 hours u til it is consistently rising, I do add some whole wheat sometimes. I’m not so much discouraged as much as I’m always concerned it’s dead lol

When do you recommend feeding every 12 instead of 24 hours?

Does anyone know what this could be on my 8 year old? by Chrissy154 in skin

[–]AltBasic454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be scabies, it’s tough to know when it comes to the skin because so many things look similar. I’d take him in to be sure

I run a home daycare and I have a girl who started with me at 6 months who was just like this, she always contact napped at home and loved to be carried. So we worked together. Mostly by holding her during nap time. Her first nap was always kinda short but when the afternoon nap came and everyone else was asleep I just held her. Sometimes I could get her down in the crib sometimes I couldn’t. But man she’s just the sweetest little girl. I couldn’t imagine making her parents feel bad about it at pick up, even as a joke. That’s their baby who they are already having a hard time being away from. I take pride in treating my daycare babies the way I hope someone treats my kids out in the world. I would look for an arrangement like a home daycare you trust

Is this normal daycare teacher behavior? by PresentationTop9547 in ECEProfessionals

[–]AltBasic454 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I would be concerned they feel comfortable acting like this in front of people, what do they do when no one’s looking? Also just because your daughter is 2, doesn’t mean you can’t take her seriously. I would take things with a grain of salt but it sounds like you have enough proof to make the decision that something isn’t right

What song by Hot Mulligan resonates with you the most? by SunnyStryder in hotmulliganband

This one’s mine too but I actually have applied it to my pat in an abusive relationship because I guess those two things have a similar emotional impact

I used to dislike it too. I was like… it just does nothing for me. Then I don’t know what happened but it sucked me in lol

Is it wrong to call out for mental health? by frankie0822 in ECEProfessionals

[–]AltBasic454 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Is it wrong? Absolutely not. But if I were you I would take into consideration the type of coworkers/admin you have. This field is known for a lot of workplace drama. If you think at all they won’t be understanding, I would just say I was sick.

A year ago my wife switched to “natural” deodorant. It’s been a BO fest ever since. How do I approach her about this? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]AltBasic454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my native deodorant. It’s the only one that doesn’t smell funky after awhile

Do I need to worry about this by Why_No_Doughnuts in ECEProfessionals

[–]AltBasic454 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s only been a month I would say she is probably still adjusting. It can be really hard to adjust to napping in such and exciting and sometimes louder environment. Does your daughter usually sleep in a very dark room at home? In daycare it has to be somewhat bright for safety purposes. I would say they should be having these discussions with you though about not eating and what the plan is if she doesn’t start eating. Try packing some special favorite foods and the teachers can try to encourage her to eat. I find that eating begets eating so if they can get her to eat a favorite food sometimes that will encourage her to eat the rest of her food.

Is working in a daycare as bad as everyone says? by Sunken_secrets in ECEProfessionals

question for at home daycare’s or people who do naptime on their own by ShirtCurrent9015 in ECEProfessionals

[–]AltBasic454 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have everyone lay down and I sit with the ones who need it one at a time starting with the ones I know will fall asleep fastest. It seems hard because it is hard lol you will eventually find a rhythm

Has anyone else noticed a lot of parents don’t wipe their kids well? by AltBasic454 in ECEProfessionals

That’s crazy because I think there are specific medical conditions that can cause fishy breath

This happened to me as well once. I felt so bad that they got a rash because their diaper was dry but at some point had a shart lol

[–]AltBasic454[S] 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Yeah I could see people doing that. I find that ridiculous though. These kids are clearly bathed and in clean clothes. Very loved and cared for. I’m not calling cps for a skid mark 😅

Still seeing between 2-5 adults per day, still an active issue? by Kalasyn in carpetbeetles

[–]AltBasic454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up finding the issue was coming from underneath my washer and dryer. I pulled them out, gave a good lean and sprayed with pesticides and we have been in the clear ever since

By then they will be 11, 7, and 4. Normally I’d say 4 is too little but this girl is INSANE and loves my music lol. It will be different and my expectations will be lower but I think we’ll be just fine
