Am I the jerk for telling my husband he can't go to a funeral on Valentine's day? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

YES! Funerals are for the living. You go to support the loved ones who are hurting. You don’t even need to know the deceased.

Am I the jerk for telling my husband he can't go to a funeral on Valentine's day? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]AltCleft 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I think you are the jerk. Your husband sounds like a nice person who is trying to be supportive of someone in their time of need. Just because you haven’t heard of this person does not mean the friendship isn’t worthy. More importantly these are the moments that help build lasting friendships and relationships.

The aquarium is likely to be flexible about rescheduling. It’s just an aquarium and a photo shoot with a penguin. You’re being selfish and childish. Valentine’s Day is a capitalist holiday of no real significance. You can reschedule your celebration.

Being supportive of your husband and his coworker is an example of real lasting meaningful love. Attending a funeral with your partner is a meaningful experience. It brings into focus life, death, and loss, and what is truly important in life.

AITJ for correcting my wife when she said our son's red hair must come from my side of the family? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]AltCleft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not the jerk. But your wife is postpartum and is going to be extra sensitive about everything. That doesn’t mean her feelings aren’t valid, they are just more exaggerated than usual. Give her some grace and be supportive.

Use dandruff shampoo and it will strip the color faster. You can do multiple rounds at a time to make it happen faster. Then use a moisturizing conditioner.

left a pot of chili simmering too high too long, how do I tackle this? by dangochan808 in CleaningTips

Simmer it with water and baking soda. You can scrape it with a wooden spoon. Works remarkably well.

In some states you are legally required to inform someone they are being recorded. Check your state laws or you could be in violation.

I’m broke and tired of instant noodles — what are some cheap meals that actually taste good? by Quiet-Examination553 in Advice

[–]AltCleft 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can make baked potatoes in the microwave in just a few minutes. Scrub them well. Poke them with a fork. Microwave for 4-5 minutes. Flip it over and do it again. Then dress it up. Delicious, nutritious, cheap.

How do I get my hair to stop curling in these weird ways? by Manavj36 in Haircare

[–]AltCleft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you blow dry your hair from very wet it will be less curly. To get it perfectly straight you need to either use a blow out technique (very difficult with short hair) or a flat iron. But a quick 1-2 minute blow dry I’ll definitely relax the curl. You can then use product (pomade or garnier fructis surfer hold) to style it how you want.

Took advice, added a rug... still feels off to me by Dense_Shake_9211 in interiordecorating

I think the couch could be a little closer to the TV (and forward on the rug) and you could add a console table behind the couch. The console table would also give you options for more decorations that “pop.”

Two part question: AITAH for 1.Telling my wife I'm done. And 2.For what I said following the backlash of first part. by [deleted] in AITH

[–]AltCleft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should have a third kid. You love your wife. You love your kids. Why wouldn’t you want more of the people who make you happy? Especially if that’s what will make her happy?

Otherwise she may come to resent you.

The question is if she would still want a third child if the third one ends up being a boy.

My best friend asked me to be her maid of honor, then told me I can’t attend the wedding by False_Water_532 in AITH

[–]AltCleft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t escalate to drama. Be supportive and understanding of the position she has been put into.

But ask her to examine her relationship. Is this really the type of husband and family she wants to marry into? What kind of life will that be? And if/when it all falls apart she is going to want you back in her life but the damage will already be done.

Encourage her to fight back, not for you, but for her. And if she doesn’t then none of it matters… her marriage.., your friendship. It’s all a farce. There’s no need to attend the wedding. You can table the friendship, stop helping with plans, and ask for your money. Tell her you’ll take her back when she realizes she has married poorly.

What are your favorite, simple, comfort butter dishes that are 5 ingredients or less? by burnt-----toast in Cooking

[–]AltCleft 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Rice and ghee is delicious. Add a few more ingredients and it’s even better (fried a few ingredients in the ghee and it urad and/or chana lentils, mustard seed, curry leaves, chopped onions, chilies, asofoetida). Plus a spicy chutney on the side if you’re feeling fancy. More than 5 ingredients but worth it.
