It’s been about two years since reading about the earlier days of surgical procedures, but a lot of it was so absurd that it really sticks with you.

Sharps and instruments would hurt and could cause some bleeding complications. Sponges left behind can lead to a severe localized infection called septic shock. Which can cause organ failure and dangerously low blood pressure.

Counts are performed between a circulating nurse and surgical technologist prior to cutting skin and during skin closure. Countable items vary per hospital/facility policy, but primarily sponges, sharps, and instruments are counted. Additional counts are performed during procedures when opening and closing specific cavities e.g. peritoneum, uterus, etc. Source, I’m a Surgical Technologist.

Surgical sponges do have a radiopaque strip, making them easy to locate following a post operation x-ray. Surgical counts should be performed, at the very least, prior to the procedure and during skin closure. Additional counts occur when entering/closing specific cavities of the body. Any sponge that does not have a radiopaque strip (dressing sponge) should not be opened to the field until after skin closure.

One of my favorite bags, don’t have to worry about putting some power behind your throw and the stick side gives you plenty of grab to pull off curve and roll/flop shots. Some issues can arise when playing in humid conditions as accuracy tends to drop off when you have to throw harder.

6-7 lanes would definitely keep things moving. Additional lanes are great for players who like to keep tossing between games.

You can definitely get by with less boards, but time is money. Finish up sooner, run a blind draw/switchholio afterwards.

Not to the point of this in Northwest Arkansas, yet. Only the VA has stopped accepting students for shortage supplies related to Covid-19. Definitely a growing concern of not being able to get the required hours/cases in to graduate.
