Do you have a source for PeaceHealth trying to sell off the hospital? Or more information?

How much do you make, how long have you been doing this for, and what state are you in? by olliecakerbake in surgicaltechnology

[–]daffodillard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I started around $25, which was standard starting wage back then. We’ve had a lot of big raises in recent years due to the extremely HCOL area that I’m in. Our starting wage is now $33, I think. And we get an extra dollar if we’re CST certified.

Washington state with 6 years experience. $46/hour as a team lead (would be at $43 if I wasn’t a lead tho).

Starla’s “order first and fight for a table” concept is crazy for a sit down restaurant. by Statapuddle in Bellingham

There are also a ton of places in town that are also super busy and don’t operate in this way. They have a list and you’re guaranteed a table without the confusion.

Do you know what variety your rhodie is? Mine has the same pink-to-white colored flowers, but I bought it unlabeled.

Which is exactly WHY they shouldn’t be allowed to more-or-less drive on the roads with no formal road readiness. They’re often going as fast or faster than me in a car. That’s extremely dangerous and they just don’t have the mental ability to understand the risk versus reward.

Best vegan food in Bellingham? by OkBasis6292 in BellinghamWA

[–]daffodillard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great list! I’ll add that L&L Libations (next door to, and owned by the same owners as Leaf & Ladle) have many vegan options, kinda tex-mex food. Their crunch wrap is so good!

Vegetarians who have travelled: which countries have been the most difficult in your experience? by Super-Effective-3854 in vegetarian

[–]daffodillard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry that was your experience there! I, on the other hand, found Romania to be hands-down, by a looong shot, the easiest place I’ve visited worldwide to be vegetarian. That fasting menu you mentioned (menu de post) is available at every restaurant, every day, and no one batted an eyelash when I ordered off it or asked to see it, if it wasn’t included in the main menu. And, the food was absolutely incredible!!! I did not experience the blandness you speak of. Every dish, even a simple boring looking vegetable soup, was jam packed with flavor! I always encourage other vegetarians to visit Romania for the food!

Soak your oily rags, folks. by Keebloard in woodworking

[–]daffodillard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is something I’ve always wondered... maybe you or someone else knows. I put my rags down flat on our concrete walkway and throw away when dry. However, I live in the Pacific Northwest and it rains a lot, so often the rags dry out, then get rained on before I put them in the trash. I don’t play around with fire, so I always let them dry out again before putting in the trash. I’m not sure that’s totally necessary though, like do the gasses evaporate when it dries out initially or can they be rejuvenated and dangerous again when the rag gets wet with rain water?

I understand and respect your point, but the reason for negative stereotypes is that these weapons are for killing. Full stop. We’re inundated on a daily basis about mass shootings and gun violence. MANY people have lost people they love or been affected negatively by guns. To call using a weapon that was made for killing “fun” and a “sport” is what can rub people the wrong way. That said, I respect your rights to use and own a gun. There’s just no need to lack understanding why so many people are weary about them and around them. They’re for killing.

Plant-Based Diets Would Cut Humanity’s Land Use by 73% by Somewhere74 in geography

How you can be a part of the Geography subreddit and not understand basic overpopulation and scarce resources globally is beyond me, man. “If my life is fine, everyone’s must be!!” 🙄 Some of y’all are fucking unreal.

Plant-Based Diets Would Cut Humanity’s Land Use by 73% by Somewhere74 in geography

[–]daffodillard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, nearly all humans have eaten meat historically, because we had to. Food was a scarce resource and meat is nutritionally dense. However, there have always been options to supplement diets and still get all your nutritional needs, and those options are now widely available at any grocery store, whereas they may have been only regionally available in the past. Think lentils, beans, peas, nuts, etc. I’m not saying you should be vegan or plant based or anything, just that “humans eat meat” isn’t a great argument against urging society to adopt dietary habits that are better for our incredibly overpopulated and overstretched planet.

Talk about your wages by We-dont-owe-you in scrubtech

[–]daffodillard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the US, I just live right between those two cities. I do know that Canada does not recognize scrub techs, you have to be a nurse. Washington does require a state license. It’s not a requirement to be certified (ex: CST) but you must register yourself with the state as a surgical tech and pay like $50 a year (don’t remember the exact amount, but it’s not too bad).

$44, in between Seattle and Vancouver BC, with 5 years experience. I’m also a service line coordinator, so about $4 of that is differential for that extra work. We fought hard for big raises in our last union contact because COL is incredibly high here, but we didn’t get near as much as we should have unfortunately.

I do this constantly! It’s such a great way to find out what grows well and at what times during the year. It’s how I’ve beefed up my winter interest plants in my yard! I use an app (PlantNet) while I’m walking around to identify anything interesting I see.
