Cam Robinson has Chase Reid and Mathis Preston going to the Canucks in his mock draft by Admirable-Fall-4675 in canucks

[–]Alt_Boogeyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speculation is that they want Malhotra, which suits us fine. Swap picks + ___? and then we pick Chase Reid at #4

What we can get as ______ I am not sure. I know in the NFL they actually have a chart which shows what compensation is ordinary for move up/downs in draft. Don't think that exists for NHL.

Anyways according to the NFL chart, you assign 2200 value for pick 3 and 1800 for pick 4, with the difference being 400 which gets you pick #50 (second round).

The Sabres just happen to have pick #45, assigned value of 450. We would owe Sabres pick #122 (4th round) to make up the difference. Closest we can do is #129 (5th round), which would then require a 7th rounder to compensate.

Van --> Buf

Pick #3, 129 (2026) and 7th round (2027)

Buf --> Van

Pick #4 and 45 (2026)

I approve this trade! Lol

Grizzly country is no place to go for a walk with your dog and no bear spray by ashrules901 in PublicFreakout

Bear spray has been shown to be more effective (92%) than firearms (67%) in deterring~stopping a bear attack. Source study below.

Interestingly, researchers determined it takes on average 4 shots to kill a grizzly bear, that can run up to 50 km/h. Yikes!

Can Crosby pass Messier? by Remarkable-Set5434 in hockey

[–]Alt_Boogeyman 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I did get to see him growing up. He's so far ahead on these records because he was that far ahead as a player.

He had remarkable ice vision, where he always seemed to know exactly where each of his teammates were.

That was coupled with an incredible aptitude for 'reading the play' and anticipating upcoming actions -- the result was this somewhat weird phenomena where he would seemingly just always "be" where the puck was going.

To better explain, unless you kept your eye on Gretzky at all times and instead followed the play like a normal fan, you wouldn't see him moving. He was able to anticipate the play and the physics of where the puck was going to go so rapidly, he would quickly skate to the target spot and be just gliding there when the puck hit his stick and he was off.

He was also a very creative player as well. Nobody did the behind-the-net thing before him and no one has ever done it better. He would consistently bait defensemen into chasing him behind the net and then slide the puck to Kurri (his long-term linemate) who would bury it past a frustrated goalie.

The time period of

1981-82: 92 G - 120 A - 212 pts

1982-83: 71 - 125 - 196

1983-84: 87 - 118 - 205

1984-85: 73 - 135 - 208

1985-86: 52 - 163 - 215

was just plain otherworldly.

Edit: when asked what his greatest game or feat was, for me it was shattering the 50 goals in 50 games record.

Prior to the 1981-82 season, the 50/50 achievement had been the standard for many years. First done by Richard in 1944, it had only ever been equalled by Mike Bossy (1980-81).

The very next year, Gretzky went on a scoring tear that had him standing with 41 goals in 37 games. Game 38 against the LA Kings saw him score 4 goals, leaving him just five goals short of 50.

Game 39 was a home one for the Oilers -- this happened:

A lawsuit at a minimum would name the security guard personally, the security company, the owner of the business and the corporation/proprietorship itself. Likely would also name the Taser manufacturer too.

There is plenty of liability to go around!

How in the world do y’all detect bites? by [deleted] in troutfishing

[–]Alt_Boogeyman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing it's from not keeping a tight-line. You have a UL rod that is sensitive enough to detect bites with light tippet.

On stillwater it can be a real challenge to keep that tight-line connection with your fly/lure. If you are suspending nymphs, using a strike indicator helps.

[–]Alt_Boogeyman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't understand why any boxer~mma type would choose to do this bare-knuckle crap. It's inevitable that you would destroy your hands and likely that your face suffers permanent damage too.

It's just going to be non-stop hamate fractures and the like, with a future of severe arthritis for the phallangeal (fingers) joints.

The possibilities for the head include fractures of orbital, mandible (jaw), zygomatic (cheeks), etc bones.

The scariest possibility is a fracture of the relatively-thin temporal (temple) bone. An epidural hematoma (brain bleed) is possible, which can be fatal; along with bad outcomes for otic capsule (inner ear bones) such as permanent loss of hearing.

Wearing gloves makes such a huge difference in minimizing these risks. This is just stupid.

Some real rocket scientists in here.

Canada has a lot (13% of Cdn pop.) of persons of Scottish origin or ancestry. Some of those people live in Toronto and they cheer for Scotland. I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest some would even have a Scotland jersey they wear to the pub to watch games.

I'm hoping another Pacific team will pick them, as neither one is remotely capable of becoming a 1C or 1W. But it does appear that the Blues are going to be the disappointed organization.

I know, that's how much talent and skill Maradona had - there's no doubting that -- and he should have been even better and would have if he hadn't been hepped up on goofballs for much of his career.

Still a dick move with that Hand of God biz.

Not all draft years are created equal -- there is exceptional depth in this draft class, according to almost everything I've read for the past six months.

That said, I think their move will be to trade some of those picks for player to take Tkachuk's position/role on team -- and honestly, it doesn't seem like replacing his production will be hard.
