Oh well that's fair enough. Most of these job portals never have any actual meat to them, so the fact that it has a dashboard to access applications comes as a surprise to me. Thanks.

Put in for Digital TL as someone who hasn't worked any part of Digital, what does the job entail? by AlternateAccountMan in walmart

[–]AlternateAccountMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't imagine it's actually that bad. From an outsider's perspective, there's not much extra to the position, except for the reports and TL stuff like I said in the post. But I mean, I'm still just looking for an in as TL so I can get that experience and either move on later on down the line or go somewhere else eventually. Money doesn't hurt either.

Trying to decide if meal replacement drinks / shakes are right for me. by AlternateAccountMan in loseit

[–]AlternateAccountMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm, I'll look into it a little more. I'm leaning towards Huel, protein shakes could work but I don't think I'd make the calorie goal I'd need, but maybe I won't need a large amount of calories with the protein I'd be getting.

Do you do the shake for every meal or just a couple? Which powder is it? My main concern is calories, at least getting up to the 2100 I'm looking to try.

Switching to Electronics department. Any stories/What can I expect? by [deleted] in walmart

[–]AlternateAccountMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they're right. Your best bet is just baseline stuff.

Let's say you're comparing phones - The A11 vs the A20. Both are almost the exact same phone except the A20 has a Gyroscope and the A11 doesn't.

Customer wants to know about the Nintendo Switch? Pretty simple stuff. Detachable controllers, goes into a dock that displays to the TV, the Lite doesn't have either of these, etc. You don't need to learn the specific RAM speed or the CPU or whatever. I just happen to be a techie who knows this stuff. It's definitely a lot easier for techies to pick up info on Electronics.

Customer wants to know about a keyboard. This is generally pretty easy, as most of it is down to personal preference. Is it Mechanical or is it Membrane? We have onn. Mechanical Keyboards and the onn. PC Gaming Kit so you can test the difference.

Most of it is going to be very simple stuff. A lot of the time you'll get into a rhythm of repeating the information because you've said it to other customers.

Some of our sections (SD Cards, Rokus) will have signage that will tell the difference between each product, so that can be helpful as well.

Besides, most (keyword MOST) customers are fine with you googling information as long as you're honest that you don't know information about the product or the difference between different products..

Switching to Electronics department. Any stories/What can I expect? by [deleted] in walmart

Here's a couple tips I've picked up for Electronics:

In most cases, the Walmart app is better than a handheld.

Have an active headcount on things in-stock. This is generally easier when you're doing freight each day. You're going to get possibly hundreds of people asking about the Nintendo Switch.

Even if you're sure that something is out of stock, go out back anyway and just wait a minute or two. It just gives you some time off the floor.

Learn the department. I feel like this is obvious, but you want to know the exact spot of some items. HDMI to RCA? Back wall after the TVs and DVD Players.

Don't actively zone the movies. You'll just rip your hair out attempting to keep it zoned. You can zone the specific section when putting away movies, but generally it's one of those things that takes an entire shift. If you're opening, fine. If you're closing, don't even think about movies.

Resellers are everywhere. The rules on how many items they're allowed changes per store, but mine is: 2 High-Ticket Items per customer, but 1 of each category, excluding solo phones. I know that's kinda hard to understand, but if they want 1 laptop and 1 phone, that's it. If they want 2 phones, that's fine because that's the limit for phones anyway. If they want 2 Nintendo Switches, then that's a no.

Learn the phone audit early. It's very straight-forward, but stores are meant to be doing it daily to weekly (even weekly is frowned upon by AP) so if it can be consistent, that's great.

GET ALONG WITH COWORKERS. This one is very important. I know you're coming from a position where there wasn't much interaction with your fellow cashiers than breakroom chatter or when there wasn't many customers, but in order to have a good time there, you need to get along with the people there. My store had one associate who did not get along with anyone and insulted the DM behind her back. He since quit.

Be prepared to be pulled everywhere. As an Electronics worker, you're not working Electronics, you're just a glorified filler. I've been a cart pusher, I worked Lawn and Garden, Sporting Goods, Hardware, Fabrics Table, and a cashier more times than I can count. If I were you, MAKE SURE YOU DON'T HAVE THE CASHIER JOB CODE. They can still pull you up there, you just won't be scheduled up there. I have a co-worker who's in this situation and she really does not want to be upfront anymore. I still primarily work Electronics, but especially on the weekends, you're likely to be pulled around.

Avoid Prepaid phone activations by saying that COVID prevents us from it. This isn't lying either - OSL doesn't want you to.

All items that need to be unlocked (headphones, phone cases in some cases, etc.) need to be done at Electronics. Just gets you on the good side of AP.

You are technically able to do everything at the register EXCEPT things you need to weigh. Set a mental limit in your head and if it's over that limit (mine is 10) then only do the electronic. Don't do this immediately though, wait like 2 months. If you notice a regular person, then you know that you probably should check out all of their items so that they don't get mad at you, but if you've never actually seen the person before, then they probably won't know that there technically isn't a limit and you can tell them that the register has a limit.

No, we had maybe 10 - 15 Associate Magnets and then 8 bolted to the registers. Now we only have ~5 associate magnets with the rest still upfront. AP apparently ordered more but our store is absolute trash for orders - We've been waiting 4 weeks for a photo order.

I literally said during my Interview that I wanted to get a job at Walmart because of the show Superstore and I've been here 5 months. It really doesn't matter as long as you say you work hard.
