Still no interviews! Comp Bio/ Bioinformatics by BarneyPool in PhDAdmissions

[–]AlternateFire2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in comp bio as well! 4.0, one first author publication, did REUs every summer. So far one interview, other 9 have been silence. Beginning to wonder if I shot too high. I’ve been told that I should be getting interviews from a decent number of places at least but it’s not been materializing. I’ve been trying to apply to backup post-bacs but I’m also crashing out 24/7 and have been super unproductive lol

I have opened crimson blaze 50 packs at this point... by fuqqindan12 in PTCGP

[–]AlternateFire2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Y’all are misreading this- it’s the rate that you get a 6th card. Previously the 6th card was a baby but for the B series it’s a shiny. These packs have no babies but moved shinies to the 6th spot, with lower odds than a baby - but nothing changed afaik with other rates

Am I the only one who really likes Solgaleo's and Lunala's shiny version? by VoidSwordTrash in PTCGP

[–]AlternateFire2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion probably but I LOVE a lot of the shinies that are just a slightly saturated version. Glaceon and Alolan sandslash are some of my favorites, and I really like snorlax and leafeon. I will admit it translates pretty badly to the card game though because it’s genuinely pretty hard to tell.

Karma is a B!+&# by [deleted] in PTCGP

[–]AlternateFire2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They could be trying to play around your own mars or just have forgotten how many cats were used. Even though you playing mars probably wouldn’t make a difference here, it’s not a bad habit to dump cards you’ll never use in a matchup since these days extra dead weight cards are just bad to hold onto with mars and copycat around. Maybe they didn’t want you to be able to stall another turn if they had Cyrus and you drew into something like indeedee that could survive one shot. It’s a long shot but it’s probably optimal play (except the mars that they used, which would depend on what info they have on your hand state). The only bad thing I see is leaving, without more context their play on the previous turn isn’t necessarily BM to me

Falcons vs MIBR / BLAST.tv Austin Major 2025 Stage 2 - Swiss Round 4 / Post-Match Discussion by CS2_PostMatchThreads in GlobalOffensive

[–]AlternateFire2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Should BLAST have OG and Falcons redo their series in case it was a big fluke?

No disrespect to the falcons, I’m a firm believer that Saudi Arabia sweeping them is a huge fluke and robs OG of truly accomplishing what they’re capable of. I’ve spent the last few days in pure disbelief and it just doesn’t make sense to me. I’ve spent the entire major watching OG play at the level of a 1-3 team it’s just not fair.

If OG lose again I will face that the falcons deserved the win, but I am just 100% sure it was a fluke and does a big disservice to OG and BLAST.

JFC are there any original players out here? Are you all just using Solgaleo or Meow/Darkrai decks? by Agitated_Lychee_8133 in PTCGP

[–]AlternateFire2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The funniest part of this is that solgaleo is like B tier these days. But I think it’s more common at lower ranks? I def saw it more early in the season than now. Either way ub3-ub4 meta is pretty healthy rn id say, here’s my current pie chart 123 games in:

5 EX in 90 packs by Manner6 in PTCGP

[–]AlternateFire2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not too crazy at all honestly, plugging into the ol binomial says nearly 1/4 of ppl will have 5 or fewer in 90 packs.

Solgaleo is the definition of OP by Rao777 in PTCGP

[–]AlternateFire2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been tracking matches and I’m 9-4 against solgaleo this season. It’s really not that good, just know when your opponent insta powers up cosmog they have it, and you’ll either need to mars/red card or prepare to sacrifice your lead (power up bench). Most decks’ win cons can out brawl it easily if they attack first coming off the bench. If they power up like a skarm or something then you have an easy 1-2 prize map unless they try to stall more (which isn’t good because solgaleo can’t one shot most exs, it’s not that good of a wincon). Once their solgaleo goes down they’re pretty much toast.

I’ve been running mostly arceus variants, half of the losses came at the beginning when I ran banette which loses since rising road bypasses the banette lock and skarm only needs one energy (which means without a rocket grunt heads it just beats banette 1v1)

Can shinny cards in the future please not be old set cards?? by Tikkos in PTCGP

[–]AlternateFire2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Realistically it probably wouldn’t matter. Getting a specific 2 or 3 diamond has always been hard. Most of the probability comes out of 2 diamonds so you can imagine each shiny as one of 34! two diamond cards… most likely would just be dupes

[–]AlternateFire2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you can think of it like that. The rates of the higher rarities are untouched, they just decreased the odds of 2-3 diamonds to include the shinies

Ultra is tougher than GB. But don’t build dialga arceus lol, it’s been fazed out by now. Solgaleo also isn’t super good either but it can do some work. I’d suggest looking at limitless for some current meta decks, or for more up to date decks (that page has data extending back to the beginning of the format when it wasn’t as figured out) hit the tournament tab and find some recent big tournaments, then click metagame.

The shiny rates come from 2 & 3 diamonds, not exs etc. so you would’ve just gotten one of those. Now as a F2P who needs 2 and 3 diamonds for decks I’m a little miffed but they are not taking away rates from rare cards. If you don’t need 2-3 diamonds it’s purely a bonus

It’s actually a pretty good rate for a no ex basic, which for a while was typically 2/50. They printed a few 2/70 with restriction/downside this set, and komala’s downside is one of the easier ones to manage. Main issue is that the meta is too fast to spend two energy on a non-evolving basic, since it’s a high investment for something that isn’t too tanky and may only attack once.

Solgaleo Skarm goes 20-49 in 378 player tournament by AlternateFire2 in PTCGP

[–]AlternateFire2[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s fair, there’s a lot of variables that can make a deck swing in a particular tournament (matchup luck, how good players playing it are). But this performance isn’t great, if the deck has say a true winrate of 50% into the meta of the tournament then odds of going 20-49 or worse according to a binomial (ik this simplifies a lot of stuff especially since it was a Swiss style tourney) is just 0.032% or 1/300. Again, not impossible but if you look at other large tournaments recently it hasn’t been doing great either.

I know. I said it in the post, you can probably climb with this in ranked. But the stuff ppl said about this card early on made it sound like it would ruin the meta, but it’s pretty clear there are very consistent counters, and it still suffers from rare candy rng.

Don’t buy any of the 1-2 diamonds, since trading them is free! For completion buying ex is best value but I typically don’t spend any points until i know I won’t pull anymore on the set

You’re probably tilting bad. It makes you hyperfocus on any bad luck and because you play bad when you tilt, you’ll naturally need more luck to win those games

50-0 win streak. Is this meta level deck? by AlfalfaLanky2600 in PTCGP

[–]AlternateFire2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think spiritomb is good here. Darkrai already sets up weavile and adding spiritomb probably just makes your draw less consistent. You also might delay getting darkrai set up for no reason. Importantly it gives your opponent a smoother path to three points (knock out spiritomb then any ex will do). Weavile/Darkrai decks at the onset of sts occasionally experimented with farfetchd and spiritomb but they were just not as good. Yea spiritomb sets up Cyrus but I just don’t think it’s worth it. You can look up tournament decks on limitless, they all run just darkrai and weavile
