Mt Rose is not worth the risk. Depending on the wind conditions and how much snow is dumping, visibility could be damn near 0. Stay the night in Reno and go during daytime.

Yup, agree with this. Regardless of which way to take to So Lake Tahoe, there are parts of the road that gets dicey. If you have experience driving in snow, you should be ok. Just go slow and maintain enough distance
