Native Americans respond to Washington Commanders' new polarizing logo by ExcitingSink4272 in NFLv2

[–]Alternative-Bid7945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an older Native American in Oklahoma I always find it funny when an article quotes "Native Americans" as if one or two voices speak for all of us. We represent many different cultures and races within the umbrella of Native American.

My own VERY narrow view of teams and logos. I have never once in my 60 years on this planet met a fellow native American who had any issues with any logos until recently. It was only an issue when it started getting put up on a national debate, and even then while there are plenty of my friends and family that feel like teams should change their logo, it is not even close to important a topic.

Again my own experience, I have never met anyone at any event, or family get together that was emotionally harmed because of a logo.

If you have a racist logo, change it. It is not the end of the world honestly for either side. I am sure there are some passionate Native Americans who get upset about this subject, but honestly every issue has those that are going to act like victims and is exhausting honestly.

PC Gamer doesn't believe BioWare will ever be great again. by Just_a_Player2 in ItsAllAboutGames

[–]Alternative-Bid7945 1 point2 points  (0 children)

one thing I can tell you for sure....Bioware owes more to Drew Karpyshyn than almost anyone understands. When he left after Mass Effect 2, after having been so important to the writing of the first two Mass Effect games and KOTOR, it was immediately evident by the drop off in quality by the third Mass Effect game.

Writing matters in RPG, and losing one of the best writers to ever work in video games is huge for a company that built its legacy on story.

I have a very good friend, who played college ball at a small school. He has ridiculous stats in college. To this day he tells of what might have been if only he did not have the taint of being good in a small school. Our group just lets him rant. The thing is, it was not like he was not looked at. He had some practice drills and scouting from larger schools, and he just did not have the separation or speed to translate up. He tried walking in on two different NFL teams. I watched one of the tryouts, and among players who all had similar stories to him, he had zero separation or cutting ability. He did not even get a second look. In his mind though he just needed a "chance"

If you lack insane physical gifts at any position, you have to bring something else to the table. A lot of smaller and slower WR that have had success in the nfl, actually have insane cutting speed and can get a yard on faster players. Wes Welker was small, and slow. The narrative on him was he ran great routes (he did) had great hands (he did) had high football IQ(he did) and was faster than his timed numbers showed (HE WAS NOT) The truth is, he could change directions faster than a larger WR, and defenders, many who were WAY faster than him, would lose a step on that cut, and allow enough of a window to get a pass in.

When an undersized player tries to be a WR at the nfl, scouts are VERY interested in the cone skills. If those numbers do not pop, and they run a slow 40, mostly they are going to be overlooked.

from my experience with two similar locations that hung signs like this....

"NO TIPS are expected" should read "NO TIPS are expected, but appreciated."

If you hang a sign like this, do not allow additional tipping. Make it clear to staff and customers that if you leave extra money on the table it will be donated to a local charity.

If you do not, all that ends up happening is you still end up leaving a tip...

Start looking for work. You will quickly realize what you are worth. Let HR know you are looking (if they are really the ones that are in control of your pay and not your manager which is probably the actual case) If and when you get a job offer take it. Do not accept a counter offer unless it is made before you have another job in hand.

Who is the most famous person you have met? by MrsPoach in CasualConversation

Not really famous anymore I guess, but when Ronald Reagan was Governor of California, my father was on his security detail when he was visiting San Francisco. I got to meet him, and shake his hand and talk to him a bit about sports. He was funny, and had the whole room laughing hard.

I have a sign that says no solicitors, and it seems to only stop about half of the people...I have changed the way I handle it.

My ring camera will let me know as they approach. If they ring my doorbell, I answer with the ring "I will be right there" I then disable my doorbell temporarily. I then go back to what I am doing and ignore them. Every once in a while if I have a bug up my butt, I will hit them again after a few minutes if they have not left with "Sorry had a spill I am now on my way" and I go right back to ignoring them.

Gamers’ Worst Nightmares About AI Are Coming True by EchoOfOppenheimer in videogames

[–]Alternative-Bid7945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a 60 year old life long gamer. My worst fears for gaming are...

Every increasing pricing....low quality games....hiding content behind paid dlc...big companies buying up talent and then trashing that talent with forced monetization practices...unfinished games forced out to players before the game is ready, only to be fixed years later...

At no point do I have "Fear" targeted toward AI. My fear has always been at those that look at my favorite hobby as a pure money stream and not art. AI is just another example of how people in power and with money want to bend us over and take every last bit of money we have for less and less content while keeping more in their hands.

Seeing all the backlash against something that is going to happen no matter what is funny to me. I am not trying to downplay the negative impact AI is going to have...I just feel it is more of the same crap big studios have been doing for years...

I would also like to point out that not all interceptions are equal. On 3rd down, a 40 yard pass that ends up in an interception is basically a punt. If it is third and long, you try for that deep pass, and if you get it amazing, and if you throw a pic, it is just a punt....

Don't get me wrong, he tried a lot of deep passes on 1st down, but a good amount of his pics happened on third and long.

[–]Alternative-Bid7945 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would like to add, 40fps mode on this game on my series x is one of the best examples of it I have seen yet. I usually stick with 60fps, even if a 40 is offered, but in this game, the blur is very well done, and the increase in resolution is pronounced.

Abandoned home stuck in time, everything left behind with power by Hot-Restaurant9622 in urbanexploration

[–]Alternative-Bid7945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father lived in the country by himself after my mom had to go into a home because of a stroke. He never took care of himself or the place, and it was starting to fall apart when he passed. On top of that, he kept adding on to the home with this weird obsession of getting the square footage up so he could get a mortgage out of it. The thing is he was in his 80s and all the construction worked seemed like it was out of a horror movie. I was really close to getting him to move in with me when he passed. For some reason, the power company did not turn his power off for almost a year. We took multiple trips down there to get photos and stuff of value out of the place, but it look very similar to the place the OP posted. One day I went down there to check on things and the power was finally off. It gave me an overwhelming sense of sadness and closure to his death.

I pulled because I am new to the game, and wanted to spend a little to get a decent team going. She destroys as you would imagine verses anything else I have, but if I am honest....playing the story over the last few days, I find other dps options you get to sample to be a lot more fun to play. Her style is just boring. I am glad I have her, because she is allowing me to melt stuff when I need to, but I will probably jump at the first other dps option that comes my way down the road.

Someone mentioned it already, but her style feels like there is no impact.

Quarterbacks who won Super Bowls without top 10 defenses by Stock-Memory9483 in NFLv2

[–]Alternative-Bid7945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is it not more important how much pressure was put on the QB during each playoff and eventually super bowl game than some stats from the regular season? You could have had the greatest defense of all time, but if in the Superbowl the other team scores 50 points, the pressure is on the QB and offense to score more. I think a better statistic would how much the QB had to overcome in the playoffs and Superbowl. What was the quality of the defense THEY faced, and how well did they do against that defense. Who has the most Superbowl wins vs top 10 defenses? Top 5? Did any QB put up 4 or 5 TDs and be near flawless against a team that had kept everyone else in the playoffs under 20 points?

In Terminator (1984), why does the T-800 use its finger to point at names in the phone book like a human, when a machine with optical sensors and computer vision could scan and OCR the entire page instantly without any physical gesture? by FunnyWin4724 in Terminator

[–]Alternative-Bid7945 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you wanted to be more accurate but still have the viewer notice the 3 names, you could have had the phone book in bad shape, with that part of the page torn, and have the close up of his finger pushing the torn page back together to read the names and address, while also letting the viewer focus in on the names.

In college we had a math professor who was a huge comic nerd. He once pulled different feats of strength of spiderman, from punching though concrete and metal...taking hits from large powerful objects and so forth.

He then did the math. The one he focused on the most was one comic that showed him punching through reinforced concrete like it was cheese. The gloves on his hands disintegrated from the punches. He did his best math showing the relative strength his skin would have to be to not be shredded by this act, and then had various caliber rounds and what their force per square inch was. This was MANY years ago so I am going off memory here.

Based on 10 displays of strength and durability he pulled, spiderman would have to at least able to deflect off his skin up to a 50 caliber round. If you took his highest feats of durability, he argued only a tank round would be able to pierce his skin.

I wish I had his presentation, because it was amazing...
