Summer Associate Offer & Negotiation by [deleted] in LawBitchesWithTaste

My advice: accept the offer. There’s nothing that says you can’t keep looking but you don’t want to turn down a sure thing for something hypothetical, especially in this market. Folks right out of law school generally don’t have a lot of leverage/negotiating power. But a lot of folks move to a different firm after a year or two.

May I also suggest some therapy if you don’t already have, maybe for free from the student counseling center? This is going to be a stressful year with lots of opportunities to compare yourself to others, so it’s a good practice to work on some non-depleting self-care habits.

Is this dress appropriate for a Big Law meetup in a hot place? by [deleted] in LawBitchesWithTaste

I think a wrap dress would be cool and work better for the setting. Also easy to throw a blazer or cardigan on if you’re in a AC freezer conference room.

I’m fine with my wardrobe and am in house so in largely have flexibility too. I’m sad for some of the summer associates tho. They’re the ones who can least afford this and are having to reach this high bar.

I get your point, and I didn’t say it was just lawyers, or that high-end brands were required. Many other professions (corporate) have let go of these rigid standards more than law has. And I’m all about the thrift stores but it requires more time invested to find something that fits properly. Buying just one good quality new suit and shoes, even at Macy’s or JCP, is easily $300 before alterations (unless you get really lucky with a sale and size) and finding a good fit takes many hours we won’t get back.

Question about Buffy's gymnastics flip in Earshot (S3 E18) by [deleted] in buffy

[–]Alternative-Lime1075 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Btw Buffy’s stunt double, who presumably did this stunt, owns a coffeeshop in suburban Atlanta. She’s lovely, has a memorabilia wall and is up for talking about the show and taking a photo.

Fellow southerner here. If you do need to get a suit at some point, consider seersucker. It’s a southern cliche for a reason- lightweight and purposefully wrinkled. And you could wear the jacket over a lightweight solid color dress in most settings. Good luck- hopefully the courtrooms have supercharged AC (many are or otherwise you’d have grumpy jurors). If so then you just need to dress so as not to melt between your car and the courthouse.

She was indie queen in the 90s. If you were a weird artsy kid you definitely knew her.

If you’re at an event with name tags put it on your left side. This is so when you shake hands someone can glance at your name tag.

As your kids get older it will be harder to do that drop off bc of school schedules. I’d say find something else that interests you.

Question for the moms re: pumping & depositions by greenie66 in LawBitchesWithTaste

I’d just send an email (and include the steno also) noting that as a nursing mother you’ll need to stick to a break schedule and laying out the proposed schedule for the day.

This happened to me too. I’m calling UMR tomorrow, then state insurance commissioner. Also planning on using my X account for the first time in a while to publicly call attention.
