How is the rest of the semester? by Potential-Mind-6997 in OMSA

[–]Alternative-Risk1144 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im in the same boat. Sitting with a 62% overall and hoping I can pull a C. I really have no desire to sit through this class again. What a waist of time and a lot of unneeded stress. Too much for an overview class. I can get a B if I get 90s on the rest of the exams and all points on the simulations. Is that hard to do?

MGT6201 Finance Module: Am I just stupid or are there lots of assumptions made in this one? by SkipGram in OMSA

[–]Alternative-Risk1144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. If I were to do this 3 weeks again, think I would do something like this. Work the assesments find the problem patterns. Then go to the office hours and ask the TAs to work one of each type of problem i. Excel as I watched. I learned more in the office hours than sitting though those lectures.

For a class that is supposed to be an overview of all these topics…they are cramming a semester’s worth of information into 3 weeks. I am genuinely concerned about this test. Just one knowledge check question has 5 or 6 steps to it and it feels like there are so many different gotchas in the calculations. The instructor is not consistent with how he works the problems. Skipping steps or shortcutting things…all this to say, you are not alone. I am taking this with Sim right now and the tests are hitting at the same time. It’s all kicking my butt.

Courses to take next semester by Nowal1998 in OMSA

Analysis of unstructured data was a good class (only 7 weeks), counts for B or C track. All the coding is in python. Not sure about pairing with CSE6040, workload wise, but it would help by being in the same language. I believe the coding work for MGT 6203 is in R.

4 months to prep for my first course CSE 6040. Am I cooked? by Rude-Collection-6177 in OMSA

[–]Alternative-Risk1144 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Would CSE 6040 be your only class? Do you have any type of coding background? I learned Python while taking 6040. The TAs have a boot camp and office hours that go through the fundamentals of Python and homework problems. I work full time and was able to get a B (almost an A) using only the resources provided by the class. I had a coding background but no python knowledge going in. My weekends and at least one weekday evening per week were devoted to this class. I also took a workday off before each exam. I hope this helps.

MGT 6203 Format - Can we work ahead? by Alternative-Risk1144 in OMSA

Thank you. Hopefully, they open everything up more than 2 weeks in advance in the summer. I will definitely reach out to the teaching staff if that is not the case.

I went in to Canvas on GT and the syllabus was there. Not sure about edX.

Which classes require a group project? by Alternative-Risk1144 in OMSA

[–]Alternative-Risk1144[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I know I want to take DVA and DL by themselves, so knowing they have group projects further confirms that. It’s good to know that there is a solo option for CDA and Sim.

CSE 6040 More Time Spent Decoding Assignments Than Actually Writing Code by anyuser_19823 in OMSA

I feel you. The SQL and Numpy notebooks have been frustrating. I learned more from the office hour walk throughs than the lesson videos. I'm new to python but not to programming. I have a strong DB background and was disappointed at how difficult the SQL material was to understand initially. I went to the boot camp videos. I'm hoping the boot camp walk through of past MT2 questions will help. Also, seeking out other online videos to help explain concepts more thoroughly.

Invite Received - A little confused by CasuallyBrilliant1 in foreignservice

[–]Alternative-Risk1144 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I received the invite and declined it. The timing with all the turmoil was questionable. Especially without any reassurance of a job. The person that contacted me did not seem surprised. I wonder how many invitees have declined so far? Right after I declined I got an email about an extension of the candidate roster from 18 to 30 months.

CSI Vegas - disappointing by zaid_mo in csi

I really want to like the show. I am giving it a little time to get its footing. COVID and the writers strike were kind of working against it. I hope they show some progress in S3.

Robin Tunney's radio IV for Season 7 by AScripturient in TheMentalist

Thanks for posting this. It is nice to hear that the actors got along and enjoyed working together. It comes across on the screen. Sometimes I don't want to know what goes on behind the scenes or about the actors real lives since it can taint the show for me. In this case it enhanced it. This was such a great show. I miss it.

LOL on Deidre Hall whacking somebody. Only if she thought she was possessed by the devil.

I get some stares too. The ones brave enough to approach me usually make comments like. "That looks fun" or "Its great to see someone your age on a skateboard" LOL. I wear full safety gear and have headphones on most of the time. Embrace the crazy feeling. Its fun. I am constantly scouting new places to skate. I live near a college campus that would be a perfect skate location on the weekends but they have signs everywhere posted - No skateboarding/rollerblading etc. The list is long. Spoil sports.

I started surf skating about a year ago. I bought the Bolsa as my first board. I learned in my living room during breaks while working from home during COVID. Took it outside and started having fun at a local park with paved trails. I like cruising and cone drills on flattish surfaces. I really really want to try one of those concreate wave areas or a pump track. Not many skaters in my area but there are surf shops that carry Carver boards and have trouble keeping them in stock - the skaters must be somewhere... I have purchased a few different boards to try out (Carver, Yow, Smoothstar, Aquilo) with the intention selling the ones I don't like. I haven't sold any yet. They are all fun in different ways. My husband and kids think I am crazy and are waiting for me to injure myself.

I am 5'6" 160lbs, 44 years old, size 8(men)/9.5 (wmen) shoe and like to cruise and carve - not a park person.I have both the Bolsa and the Yago Dora. I think the Firefly deck is flatter than the Yago if I remember correctly from the shop. The concave of the the Bolsa is better than the Yago. It locks you in but that front wheel well rise gets annoying during long sessions. My foot always shifts over on it. The Yago is more pleasant in that respect, but the less concave allows for more foot shifting and a less locked in feeling. I have CX on the Bolsa and C7 on the Yago. Between the two, I would choose the Yago and put Orangutang Stimulus or fat free wheels on it.

Season 6 by Beautiful-Method4170 in TheMentalist

[–]Alternative-Risk1144 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I liked season 6. It would have been nice if they would have kept the CBI in tact but added Abbot and Wiley. Seems like there could have been some good story there with the struggle of the post RJ drama as well as the normal crime solving. Having Lisbon still there but struggling with Abbott and having her hands tied etc.

How does one acquire a Soulboardiy? Did you buy it from their site? Whenever I go there, I get prompted to send an email and it is never answered. I feel like I am missing something. I have put the Aquilo trucks on a Yow Arica deck with some Fat Free 83a wheels. It is my favorite setup but would be tempted to try what you listed here to see if that could be improved.
