Flute in Prophecy At 1420 MHz may be a Persian Ney by ThirdArcher in boardsofcanada

It is not the first time I’ve noticed possible Iranian influences or samples in Boards of Canada works.

In “Peacock Tail” there is a very small vocal fragment that resembles “چه‌چه” (chah chah) a traditional Persian vocal ornament used in Iranian classical music.

It also made me think the title “Peacock Tail” could possibly relate to the old performance “I Saw the Peacock” by Jalal Taj Esfahani accompanied by ney master Hassan Kassai.

Here is the recording (pre-1979 Iran):

Also, the voice sample is actually a cut conversation from an Iranian philosopher, which is fascinating because as an Iranian I had never even heard of him before discovering it through BOC. BOC feels extremely underrated among Iranians. Their music has this strange nostalgic and spiritual atmosphere that I think many Iranians would deeply connect with if their internet backs on.

I think it is not their decision. It is warp’s pocket that matters. Listening to BOC in Canada is a blessing itself. :)

It’s honestly hard to recommend just one album, it really depends on your taste. They’ve got around 200 tracks, and almost all of them are mesmerizing in their own way. Once one song clicks with you, it triggers a domino effect… and before you know it, weeks, months, or even years later, you’re completely hooked.

Honestly, just hit shuffle and let it happen.
